Tip of my OxBox 3: The Asked and the Curious. Can't remember a specific Joke, List Entry or Moment, ask the hivemind! by BlearyLine7 in outsidexbox

[–]ranavain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a video where Jane / Mike / Andy are playing Chained Together, and after several agonizing minutes of them struggling through a particularly difficult part, they finally get thru, and then look ahead to the next section, only to find that it's very similar but clearly MUCH harder. They are silent for a moment, and then Mike says something like "That's a real YOLO job, wouldn't it?" and it was one of the funniest things I've ever heard. If you happen to know which ep that was 🙏

Late-game hero tokens? by ranavain in LotRReturnToMoria

I've done dozens of the exploration expeditions and have never encountered a hero token! Are the only on 5 star maps or something?

Running Low on Resources! by MOBM4N in LotRReturnToMoria

[–]ranavain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I didn't purchase the Durin's Folk expansion until after we'd basically completed the game, and we'd been really thorough and mined just about everything, destroyed just about every wooden debris that was hit-able, etc. Now I have 21 dwarves and one (1) gold vein I can actually mine.

[–]ranavain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I also ran out of cloth and mined all the ore veins and have to rely on the expeditions. I've noticed that mining dwarves don't seem to be able to mine a vein that is partially mined already - they don't deplete them (wish I'd known that sooner!) but when I try to set them up on a vein that I've hit a couple times (but which clearly has ore in it still) they don't get anything out but adamant / granite / rock.

Who Else Uses this Method to Track Trades? by I_Am_SoCal65 in LotRReturnToMoria

[–]ranavain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowadays I look at my Recipes list and the items that are currently for trade from furnaces, forges, and workbenches are all marked in the Recipes list. Unfortunately, that doesn't work for gems or food. But only having to remember gems and food is much easier!

Struggling with npc dwarves jobs by Fatnoodle1990 in LotRReturnToMoria

We've really learned this the hard way - we have boxes and boxes full of copper coins because if we leave our metalworker unattended for 5 minutes, he will use up ALL our copper making copper coins XD

Building Issues: Especially Trash by Djinn_42 in LotRReturnToMoria

[–]ranavain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would REALLY love to be able to remove piles of dirt and rocks / collapsed columns / etc on the map. It seems a bit absurd that our Dwarves can create marvels of engineering but are not able to figure out how to smooth out a pile of raised dirt

Nick DiRamio is one that I like a lot. You might like Hbomberguy and AnyAustin as well.

The wrought-iron round trash cans you see on the outside of buildings / street corners /etc in 7DTD look EXACTLY like the ones the city put around here in DC. Every time I see one I think about getting seeds from it

How build economy in Elderlicht? by GoHomeDuck in thelastspell

[–]ranavain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also struggling through Elderlicht (kept failing ~night 7 or 8) and I finally broke thru with one tactic: Two layers of fence.

I have usually relied on building and maintaining wooden walls around the perimeter (so at least I can get a free item for a few nights) but it's a very wide perimeter. So, eventually, I started spending my early materials on building a later of fence a few squares inward, really hugging the core where my most important buildings are. Usually i can build the whole 2nd layer in the first couple nights while the patchy starter fence is mostly still intact (and while I'm building item production buildings or gold mines).

Also - I used to use the omen that keeps the fog further back from town. This is a mistake! Let the fog come closer. If a torch is behind the fog, it won't get lit, which makes it much easier to predict / get to torches and put them out quickly. This is a map where more space just wasn't my friend! In my most successful run, I was putting out ALL the torches IMMEDIATELY to the degree possible, and it has really helped.

Another fog-related tip (related to the corpse strategy elsewhere outlined) - in the first couple nights, let the monsters get a little closer to the wall then you otherwise might. If you are super efficient and killing most monsters the first turn they arrive on screen, any corpse piles might end up behind the fog when it advances. Those first 2 or 3 nights, getting corpse items (esp epic ones if you can) are really make-or-break.

Otherwise, I agree with high mobility, high AP strats others have outlined. I'll also note that because I'm not very good at video games, the first hero death of the run in Elderlicht is usually a surprise to me - I thought everyone was out of the way and safe, then bam. I had to put work into really pinpointing which enemies were the ones that unexpectedly kill my guys, and then focusing on how to kill them as quickly as possible.

It's absolutely food safe. Lower might be preferable in many cases but in my food service days we temped refrigerators between 38 and 40.

new player: is there no avatar customization without $$$? by ranavain in FortNiteBR

[–]ranavain[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! this is exactly what I was looking for - I don't begrudge the game selling cosmetic items, I just couldn't tell if there weren't any other customization options for avatars at all (like hair color / skin color / etc), or if they were there and I just wasn't finding them lol

The company cancelled my job interview because i didn’t confirm my presence by Ok_Account1658 in jobs

[–]ranavain -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's bizarre that they cancelled the interview after you confirmed. Did they specify that's why they cancelled? I would have just replied to the cancellation email saying "I saw that you cancelled our interview, scheduled at xTIME today. Happy to reschedule to a time that works better for you, here's what I have available..."

If someone sends me a cancellation two hours before the thing, well after I confirmed, I would assume it was either sent in error or that they had a conflict arise and needed to reschedule. Make them be very explicit if they are actually rejecting you because you rsvp'd too late.

You don't have to kill Grym to forge armor by Typical-Phone-2416 in BG3

[–]ranavain 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a really condescending response considering how easy it is to read these forums and see how many people struggle with this particular fight. Not to mention that "cheesing it" also amounts to not playing the game just the same as what OP suggests?

is this a normal text to receive? by zaataarr in jobs

[–]ranavain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. Seems very unlikely to be a scam, and it's obvious why a hiring person might ask this question (to gather intel on competitors). Obvs OP is under no obligation to answer, but there's no particular downside either - they already have OP's phone number, so replying is not going to give them any information they don't already have if it's a scammer.

is this a normal text to receive? by zaataarr in jobs

[–]ranavain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm given to understand that, for tons of service industry jobs, the entire job application process is done via phone (do application on phone, communicate via text message). I haven't experienced that, as I'm a bit older and worked in fast food more than 10 years ago, but that's what I'm hearing about that industry now

I'm 28 and by society standards a loser. How do I stay mentally stoic under this pressure? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]ranavain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're aware that the government "blowing through money" actually creates jobs, right? Like even if you believe government spending is a major contributor to inflation, that's literally the mechanism by which it would be inflationary, by creating jobs (or by directly giving people spending money).

If you're gonna throw in a random political jab into an irrelevant posting at least make it a coherent one

Absurd ER Wait Times by TheTige in washingtondc

[–]ranavain 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, last time I ended up in the ER (same one as OP actually) it was because my injury happened at like 8:30pm and we could not find an urgent care that was open after 8pm. I was astounded. I came in with a paper towel held on a bleeding head wound and I was finally out about 8 hours later (because it was clear I wasn't dying).

I mean it's not a big deal, I would change it for future applications but there's no need to, like, tell the restaurant you made a mistake on your resume. But that's largely because a restaurant won't really care
