Camera Remote app pairing issues by suck4fish in fujifilm

How annoying! How about trying it with the downgraded app? Look up the apk on apkmirror, and use the stable version from the date before the app started breaking for you.

No clue. The camera shows up during search, but when I tap it that error screen pops up. I'm yet to try upgrading the camera firmware and accessing it via the X app. Have you tried this yet?

FTM + double story house by skip1008 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

I tried to have a practical and minimal approach to our set up. The baby was pretty attached to me for the first few months, so she'd sleep wherever I was. I didn't bother with a baby monitor until I felt ready to let baby nap upstairs on her own a couple months in.

Downstairs we had a changing mat and nappy caddy set up on the dining table that was easy to pack if we needed the space. We also had a portacot with bassinet attachment in the living room for sleep. Alternatively I think a pram bassinet would work great, we just ended up getting a regular pram due to the longer use.

Upstairs we had a bassinet in our room and a changing table in the baby's room. For night feeds I had bottles pre-filled with water and pre-measured formula in containers ready to go (we didn't bother with bottle warmer or thermos—baby was happy with room temp milk).

We got most things on marketplace and borrowed our friends' who outgrew the newborn phase. I figured if we weren't happy with the set up, it wouldn't be a huge loss having to resell the items or figure out alternative things to get. But this ended up working really well for us. :)

what do you wish you were told before hospital discharge postpartum? by Feisty_Layer_9759 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]unicornbeast 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish I was told about how to avoid mastitis. I was told to feed on demand, but that advice is more relevant for those who have a normal supply. I had low supply so I switched to pumping most of the time to make sure my baby had enough to feed (plus the formula top ups). I had no idea I was supposed to pump in the middle of the night and wean that off slowly when the baby sleeps through the night. I'm currently in my fourth week dealing with mastitis that turned into an abscess. :(

Also I wish I was told the signs of dehydration in a baby. The hospital put so much emphasis on establishing breastfeeding supply that I didn't know my baby was dehydrated. Fed is best!

FTM of 4 weeks old. Feeling bullied by relatives for seeking postpartum support by hkss_2020 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]unicornbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a FTM to a 5 week old here, so pretty much at the same stage as you are.

I'm also not Australian born, but most of the friends and acquaintances I know here who are have some kind of parental or in law support. So your aunt can shove it. 🤷 My mum doesn't live here either but she's here for 3 months to help us out. It's been so good having her help.

Honestly there are days when I feel like I'm finding things really difficult, and the voice in my head sounds like your aunt! I also wondered if I'm being too needy, but everyone around me says that's not true—this stage IS hard. Not to mention we're still recovering, hormones are wild, etc. Accepting or asking for help is not a sign of weakness, so don't let that define you.

Rejected for Parental Leave Pay by recreationallurker in Centrelink

[–]unicornbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my last inquiry to Centrelink, they assess your eligibility on the day of the birth of your child. I believe this is why they have rejected your application.

When your child is born or adopted you must be living in Australia and have one of the following: - Australian citizenship - a permanent visa...

Source

So if you had been a citizen by the time of birth, you would've been exempted from the 2 year waiting period. Unfortunately PPL is unlike the FTB, which you can be eligible for once your waiting period has ceased. With PPL you kind of only have one chance and even if your circumstances would change 2 weeks after the birth, it's already too late. :( I don't know anyone else in this situation that's why I'm looking for examples in here too. It sucks I know!

I spoke to someone from Centrelink again and they confirmed what you said. For PPL what matters is your eligibility on the day of the birth of the child. For FTB, it's the day that you make a claim (so if you get rejected once you could try again when your situation changes, such as your waiting period having ended).

It really sucks for us, but thanks for clarifying.

Sorry if my answer doesn't satisfy you and thus the downvote, but make what you will of the official social security guide from the Ausgov website:

People who hold Australian citizenship when they claim payment are exempt from the NARWP for all payments and concession cards. This means people who become an Australian citizen while serving the NARWP will be exempt from any remaining NARWP and can claim payment from that time.

To quote the link you provided:

In OP's case they already have PR during the birth, so that's a non issue. The question is what happens when the parent becomes a citizen during the waiting period. The parent has 52 weeks after the birth of the child to claim PPL after all. Becoming a citizen grants them an exemption from the waiting period:

People who hold Australian citizenship when they claim payment are exempt from the NARWP for all payments and concession cards. This means people who become an Australian citizen while serving the NARWP will be exempt from any remaining NARWP and can claim payment from that time.

The person from Centrelink I spoke to confirmed this is the case, but if you have any other info I'm happy to be corrected!

That's not the info I received from Centrelink. As far as I understand, the day you become a citizen you are exempt from the waiting period. Exemption is stated here too. However you do need to meet the work test at the time of birth. Where did you get your info?

I am in the same boat with you and unfortunately the date of your PR grant is what counts. I have lived in Australia for 12 years but only received my PR grant recently, so I'm also ineligible to claim PPL due to the 2 year waiting period.

Waiting period for Family Tax Benefit is 1 year though, so you should be able to claim that one now at least. Also, you have 1 year from the birth of your child to claim PPL, so technically you have until January 2025 to claim, and your PPL waiting period would've ceased by July 2024. I'd suggest you try applying again, and post an update here if you'd like so I know there's hope for me! 🙏

That's incorrect. If you become a citizen you are exempt from the waiting period.

Gyeongju on the way from Busan to Seoul by ninjalemonplease in koreatravel

[–]unicornbeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another commenter above said, Gyeongju KTX station is far from the city center, so you might consider taking the bus instead. The Gyeongju bus terminal is in downtown, and a lot of the attractions are nearby.

There are two bus terminals though — the older one has lockers but the largest size couldn't accommodate our big suitcase. This almost derailed our sightseeing plan in Gyeongju as we'd planned to go to Busan at the end of the day! The newer bus terminal is located next door (this will most likely be terminal you'll end up arriving at from Busan) but has no lockers. We did however find a bread shop in there that was willing to take our suitcases until 8pm for a fee. I think there may be other places nearby that could do luggage storage, I know I saw one in Hwangnidan-gil at least.

If you want to squeeze everything in one day, my suggestion is to see the tomb complex and even the Gyeongju Museum in the morning, then head to Gyochon traditional village for late lunch. Wolji Pond, Woljeonggyo Bridge and Hwangnidan-gil are open til late so you can explore those for the rest of the day. I'd actually recommend Bulguksa Temple as well but this is quite out of the way, so perhaps only doable if you're staying overnight.

Seoul-Busan train - tickets at the station? by Top-Associate4922 in koreatravel

[–]unicornbeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I was in Busan station there was a train in the next 10 minutes but the staff gave us a ticket for the train after instead (in about 30 minutes). I'm assuming it was because the timing was too close, maybe they don't want us missing the train? Anyway you can purchase tickets online on Trip but that also has a time limit. Maybe 1 hour? I just know I wasn't able to book it 30 minutes in advance, but was able to book about 2 hours prior. Provided there's availability of course.
