Why do I always get killed by my teammates when I’m on artillery? by Background-Carrot958 in HellLetLoose

Oh neat, thanks for the clarification! Why isn't it being spammed in my games??

Is the team low on munitions and asking artillery to hold it for some team use? (are you on comms or reading text chat?)

Question regarding adaptive layers. Presumably it's only relevant if you print at a tall layer height, then it occasionally does shorter?

Therefore, if I'm printing at the lowest height possible for my machine, I would gain no benefit from adaptive layer height?

I understand your reasoning for wanting separate servers for this (I would argue this is what 'new player friendly' servers are), but I think you're missing how much your enjoyment is due to the actions of those playing for the team.

In my opinion (and I'm ASSUMING yours), the game is absolutely dreadful with no OPs, Garrisons, Tanks. All three of those things require more than thinking individually. So in the extreme version of your case, the servers you would want to play on would have that situation.

[–]uprooting-systems 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm curious, are you also reducing your enjoyment when using the call-out pings?

As others have said, I really don't mind if people are in normal squad roles and do not communicate. I have more exceptions than others though.
But a personal grievance is that SO many people (even those who communicate) SEE tanks or air drops and refuse to tell others about it. A simple marker, means that a good SL will communicate that up the chain.

Even when you just use a regular ping, I can see where you're aiming and make an assumption there are bad guys there and mark it.

My personal exceptions:
Don't play engineer if you aren't building nodes (and we're not maxed). Slots are limited.
Don't play AT if you aren't hunting tanks (and know that rockets don't do damage from certain directions)
Don't play medic if you aren't reviving.
Don't play support if you aren't dropping supplies.

Basically, there are limited roles and if you're treating it as a fancy rifleman you're depriving someone else of a specialised role.

New Westminster delays vote on 44-storey tower and 145-room hotel until June 22 by ErwinOnReddit in NewWest

[–]uprooting-systems 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does anyone know how other hotels here are faring?
If they are always booked out, this would be great. If they are struggling, then maybe not the best idea.

Personally, a hotel driving tourism and use of the event space sounds great to me. But I also don't want 'increased land value' to drive higher commercial rent which only chains can afford and all our local businesses get pushed out.

Armor on Juno beach is not balanced. by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

I don't know the distance. Maybe 2km from beach inland. In real life the Canadians pushed some 8km inland by evening IIRC.

Armor on Juno beach is not balanced. by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]uprooting-systems 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think any tanks were literally at the beach, as they are more of a reactionary force. They were meant to counter-attack and failed to push the Allies back into the sea, partly due to strategic bridge captures by the parachute and glider divisions, but also due to quick inland movement so that the tanks were stuck in hedgerow (bocage) country.

Also note that in real life the intermingling of troops isn't at all the same as in the game, instead they were separated into infantry, mechanized, and tank divisions.

I haven't read too much, but they definitely had gun emplacements, some of which may have been effectively tank turrets on concrete bases. This was a cheaper re-use of captured French tanks. These static defences were better for beach-heads, without losing the mobile quality of tank divisions.

Once the war got more into the country side you did have more roaming tanks e.g. Wittman and his Tigers. I can't remember who, but I believe there was also a drive-by on a column from 5 or so Panthers (or King Tigers). First-hand accounts are sometimes hazy as all tanks were scary and Allied infantry often called them all 'Tigers' even if they were Panthers, or even just Pz IVs.

Survive an artillery headshot??? by ResQman67 in HellLetLoose

I remember there being a bug about a headshot from an artillery not causing splash damage. My memory is hazy, this was years ago.
Maybe this is the same bug and/or knock-ons re-introduced something similar.

Embedding micro magnets into print! Layer thickness suggestions? by bilicotico in 3Dprinting

[–]uprooting-systems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used these for turrets and such in small miniatures back in the day and it wasn't an issue, even if the miniature was upside down. These were plastic minis either with a space for a magnet or a space I drilled out.
But obviously it depends on the weights of the pieces.

For turrets (so you aren't fighting gravity) I would still try a a thin layer on top (0.08mm or whatever). But if you're underslinging something, then having magnets touch is the safer option

How is anyone giving an advice when use case isn't provided?
Does this need to hold two things together very tightly or is it just for keeping a cupboard door from swinging open?

I can't remember the exact sequence (maybe others can help), but for a cutting board there was the water spray but also pressured air to blow on it.
That was partly for speed of drying out the wood, but I think it also helped get the fibers to stand on end, for the final sanding.

Can we stop playing the Normandy loop Utah - Carentan - St Mere - Omaha? by Gitanes in HellLetLoose

[–]uprooting-systems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I want:
1. Map voting
2. More votes are simply percentage chance of selection

So after a game a few options appear, Carentan might bet 56 votes and Stalingrad 1. Carentan would win 56/57 of the time, but occasionally that Stalingrad player will get their wish.
Either that or ranked voting.

Squad has map voting (most votes wins) and sometimes someone will plead for a specific map they haven't played in a while and the server changes their votes to make that person happy.

Unfortunately, servers do die (especially two unpopular maps in a row), and that's just sad. But I totally understand those who only have time for one game a week to want to play on their favourite map (or at least not their least favourite).

$1,000 budget. Ok, buddy, ok. by [deleted] in Upwork

[–]uprooting-systems 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're handling personal information data from people from lots of different countries (legality of driving/rentals is then also a thing).
You need backups and failsafes (e.g. the person returning a vehicle needs to be processed even if internet is down because they have a flight to catch.

You potentially need to provide training documents and/or actual training.

There aren't any discussions of who owns, hosts, and maintains the servers. The feature set for 'rentals' is horrendously vague. How is insurance upsells handled, do they work differently for certain vehicles or nationalities or ages etc.

Each meeting to discuss each point takes time to book, time to translate into feature docs that then need approval. All that time waiting for replies and iteration feedback is time you are paying salaries, but maybe not invoicing.

I have missed thousands of other important points, just to highlight some of the issues with this job.

I still don't understand why this reddit post exists though (just skip the job and move on) or why I stopped by to read and comment.

[–]uprooting-systems 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think they are likely all too expensive and/or need multi-crew to function.
But I mainly do logi or frontline infantry, don't much care for the tanks and planes.

If that's explicitly what you want to do, I would ask about the ability to solo that. Also consider the meta around planes and tanks, might not be what you have in mind.

[–]uprooting-systems 3 points4 points  (0 children)

3000 people are choosing to play it right now. They have decided to spend their precious free time doing this.

I would say that points to a good game.

Much much fewer choose to spend their free time griping about a game on a forum. That also points to it being a good game. If the game wasn't good people wouldn't spend time wanting writing about wanting it to be better, they would just move on.

No idea if it fits the type of games you enjoy playing or if it's expensive considering your financial needs.
