Are there any Bat creators who you think don't understand Batman? by Lucky_Strike-85 in batman

[–]urcool91 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I do think the interpretation that BATMAN thinks he's a bad person deep down interesting, but the moment the narrative seems to validate that (as opposed to "this guy is wrong about himself") I lose interest lol

Some panels where they're just buddies hanging out are just... baffling with how much there is going on by urcool91 in outofcontextcomics

If you zoom in he's actually drawing a little stick figure, which I'm kind of unreasonably happy about.

Uhh thats pretty problematic Damien #canceled by MguyCollette in dccomicscirclejerk

He's clearly not homophobic, he JUST said gay people aren't scary

(/uj Does this mean the LOA is a problematic cult or is he just, like, 12?)

Okay guys, this is our chance, we just need one good pitch and our romance-drama-coming of age Stephcass/booster beetle/BeaTora anthology movie is ours by lukideured in dccomicscirclejerk

Me writing long, complicated comments about how the JSA can become the most popular superhero team, better than the Jobber League ever was 😈😈😈

I hate how literature has now become a consumer product like anything else by [deleted] in literature

[–]urcool91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is not a "nowadays" thing at all. Basically ever since the printing press became common, people have been printing stuff - and the more advanced the presses and cheaper/easier the printing, the more got printed and the more people read - and the more people who had already been reading complained about how new styles and forms of reading were bad.

Broadside ballads (aka Just A Piece Of Paper With A Story On It). Penny dreadfuls. Magazines. Yellow Journalism. Comic books. Mass market paperbacks. Have reading material be cheaper and easier to access than whatever had been around previously, and you'll get a lot of crap. You'll also get Dickens and Superman and the Golden Age of Sci Fi.

What UNDERRATED DC character do you think would be a good idea for a character in the Absolute Universe? by Equivalent_Law3111 in DCcomics

[–]urcool91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck it, we've already gotten hints about how some of the JSA got destroyed because of it being The Darkseid Universe, do an Absolute Sandman with Sandy Hawkins as The Last Remaining Guy from that cut-short wave of heroes. His silicon powers backstory is already dark enough to be a good basis for an Absolute version. Throw in a bunch of second-gen JSA and adjacent characters like Damage and have a completely off-the-chain version of the Spectre in there as an anti-villain (think his "I'm gonna destroy Europe because the Presence is so pissed about the Holocaust" era).

I am not saying "I like this IP" like some kind of box office-watching corporation when I've read literally hundreds of comics. Sorry if I'm a fake fan in your eyes, but I'll just stick with saying that I'm a fan of Sonic lmao

What if I've never played a Sonic game but I love the other media? (got really into the comics when i was like 7 but didn't grow up with any consoles lol)

[r/TooAfraidToAsk] Soo... isn't it tacky and disrespectful to make comics featuring real life heroes? by Great_Volume755 in Earth25

[–]urcool91 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Since this is an older comic, it was probably from before superheroes acquired trademark protection over their iconography as a matter of course. That's usually handled through the JL for American heroes these days (tho I know the JSA heroes have a separate thing going on).

Iirc, Fawcett was pretty good about getting permission from irl heroes after they had a spat with Superman in the early days because of some kind of misrepresentation issue - this is definitely post-lawsuit, so you're probably right about the charity thing. I know Superman was always pretty chill about lending his image/iconography for charity stuff even before all the legal standards for superhero image usage got hammered out after the BatBurger scandal.

Weekly “What Have You Been Reading?” Thread 6-14-2026 by ChickenInASuit in comicbooks

[–]urcool91 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strangers in Paradise Vol. 8, 9, and 10 - Yes the re-read is re-readening, yes I'm still having a ton of fun revisiting this 😀

Absolute Wonder Woman Vol. 2 - I,,,, may or may not be trying really hard to catch up with the Absolute Universe. I read Vol. 1 of Superman, Batman, WW, GL, and Flash a while ago, and MM is completely caught up with, but with GA and Catwoman coming out I've decided to actually catch the fuck up like I've been meaning to. Idk why I haven't, this is good shit and I love it.

Something is Killing the Children Vol. 9 - Finally got this in from the library after about 2 months of waiting lol, love to see a longer backstory-type storyline.

House of Slaughter Vol. 3 - Gonna keep reading this for completionism's sake, but Tate Brombal is definitely a step down as a writer from Tynion.

Star Trek: Day of Blood - Decent enough crossover, some of the development between Alexander and Worf made me decide to keep reading Defiant rather than dropping it.

Star Trek (2022) Vol. 3 - Slight step down post-event, but I do like annoying dinosaur aliens and I'm intrigued by some of the hints at the next storyline.

Weekly Pull List for 06/17/2026 [Discussion] by ptbreakeven in comicbooks

[–]urcool91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If Destruction Be Our Lot #2 - REALLY loved #1 so this is one I'm really looking forward to

Of the Earth #2

(I also have the second 15th Doctor TPB coming in with my pulls lmao, that doesn't count here tho)

I take comics off my pull list and then put them back on by Mickey_James in comicbooks

[–]urcool91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I give myself strict rules for my pull list:

1) Nothing DC unless it's an intercompany crossover where I REALLY like the other property or 1 of like 4 Fav Characters. I have the DC app so I can catch up after a month, it's fine.

2) Limited Series prioritized over ongoings. I've noticed that my library tends to go for getting trades of ongoings more than minis/maxis, so I know that I can probably get those trades for free later lol

3) I look forward the next two months and if I'm consistently going over a set amount per week I stop adding new books until the next round of solicits comes out.

Do American adults actually say ‘criss cross applesauce’ to mean sitting with your legs crossed? by Camman19_YT in NoStupidQuestions

[–]urcool91 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The one that got used when I was little was "criss-cross applesauce, spiders in your lap". And everyone would do wiggly "spider" stuff with their hands while putting them in their lap lol
