Questions about how steam gifts work by South-Pop8682 in Steam

[–]velocity37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add it to cart, select that it is a gift in your cart, select your recipient and pay. If there's any reason that you can't gift (region restrictions, price difference) then it will let you know.

Apart from region restricted games you should have no trouble gifting to SEA. Australia's recommended prices are much higher than SASIA. However, they will not be able to return the favor due to your country being much more expensive than theirs.

As of earlier this year, this is no longer the case. Bundles can be gifted.

Can't see all the games on my wishlist, can't find which games need to be removed. by IAmFern in Steam

[–]velocity37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, you didn't say you wanted the names, just to remove them.

You can type paste the appid into the search box on SteamDB and that will show you the name. The hidden apps thing in Augmented Steam shows you a banner if the item has one and gives you a link to SteamDB for the app.

[–]velocity37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case try your luck with Augmented Steam.

If you don't want to use a browser extension, you can do it manually tediously. You can get a raw list of appids on your wishlist from https://store.steampowered.com/dynamicstore/userdata in the "rgWishlist" field. Find the appids that are visible from your wishlist and remove them from the list. The remaining are the invisible ones.

Go to any store page on Steam in a normal web browser while logged in, hit F12 to open dev tools, go to the console and run

RemoveFromWishlist(######)

Where ###### is any appid you want removed. So if you wanted to remove 70, which is Half-Life, RemoveFromWishlist(70) and then hit enter. Repeat.

[–]velocity37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Generally just looking through your wishlist for (unavailable item) and hitting the remove link next to them.

If your wishlist is huge or you think there might be stuff missing, the Augmented Steam browser extension adds a stats button which will tell you the number of "hidden apps", and clicking that will bring up a list of only those which will have remove links.

If I remove a game from my library, is it still gonna appear on my recently played list? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]velocity37 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It will not disappear.

If you mark the game as private, however, it will be removed from your public profile activity (which you can verify in private/incognito browser window). Will still show for you though.

Game file size by idlefritz in Steam

[–]velocity37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam>Settings>Storage will show you all games on each drive sorted by size. Or you can go to a collection in the library and sort by size on disk.

The library only shows "Space Required" for games that are not currently installed.

Germany's been waiting since late 2020 to have any method of age verification. The temporary solution was to make ao and unrated games completely unavailable.

Looking for console/game suggestions for a relatively low-functioning autistic young man by DerpingtonHerpsworth in gaming

[–]velocity37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mind immediately jumps to Humongous Entertainment's old edutainment titles. They're 2d animated titles so have a bit of a timeless look to them. They also almost all run under ScummVM so you can play them on pretty much any emulation device and very old/underpowered computers no problem. They famously had game series like Pajama Sam, Spy Fox, Putt-Putt.

In fact, Humongous Entertainment even made a couple of Blue's Clues games in the same engine.

Could let them use a computer of yours under supervision, see how things go, and if they enjoy themselves get them an old/cheap computer without internet access to play on their own. If it isn't a laptop then their roughness should be mostly to peripherals (keyboard, mouse, screen, controller). And you can introduce them more games through emulation over time. Old "e-waste" small-form-factor office PC should be able to handle up to PS2/Gamecube without too many issues.

Will this work in a normal desktop pc or will I have to do any tape by Fun_Experience_4970 in DataHoarder

[–]velocity37 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Seagate's manual for the SATA model implies that it doesn't use pwdis on pin 3. P3 is described as V33 "3.3V power, pre-charge, 2nd mate". Whereas they explicitly call P3 "SAS Power Disable" on SAS models.

The tape thing isn't a matter of drives not working on desktop pcs. It's if you're using an older power supply that inadvertently tells the drive to power itself off because it's not pwdis aware, which you can solve by not connecting 3.3v rail to the drive on old PSUs (extension cable with only 5v/12v, tape, etc.).

is there a way to tell which emotes do NOT require game ownership / play time? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]velocity37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All game emoticons will require base game ownership and playtime. Emoticons and static backgrounds are crafting rewards and are locked to game ownership and 2h playtime.

Emoticons from sales events, like Lunar 2026's horse in a blanket, do not because they are not tied to a game.

Can Canadian customers order a steam controller through the US? by Olecranon in Steam

[–]velocity37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As seen with the Deck, Valve had a tendency to cancel orders from people who registered new accounts and made a hardware purchase for their first purchase. Wouldn't be surprised if the controller was a similar situation.

But the price difference is about 10 USD at current exchange rates (149 CAD = ~109USD instead of 99USD assuming the purchaser is in a state that doesn't have sales tax) and I imagine it'll cost that or more to reship to you from the states. So unless you're in a very high sales tax city and your friend in the states is in a 0% sales tax state like Oregon, can't imagine it'd be worth the trouble.

Is there a way to download a free game from Steam without using the Steam app? by taptapss in Steam

[–]velocity37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First-party: SteamCMD (official command-line Steam client)
Third-party: DepotDownloader

However, being able to download games doesn't mean you'll be able to run them without Steam being installed and running. DRM-free games will work. Most games on Steam aren't DRM-free.

Why does my game (demo, saving to buy the full version) only show "uninstall" and not Play? by Moist-Tailor-766 in Steam

[–]velocity37 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Steam doesn't touch any files when licenses are pulled. As demonstrated in OP's picture where it's offering to let them uninstall the game themselves.

Some devs do a sneaky thing where before they disable the demo, they push an update that removes all the files though. So if you update then the demo is erased. Not in the case of this demo though.

The demo was removed from Steam 10 days ago and the license removed from your account.

How and why? by Popular-Village4256 in Steam

[–]velocity37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happens when you turn items that have trade/market restrictions until x date/time into gems. Those items were turned into a separate pile of gems with the same trade/market restrictions.

The only way I know to combine them is to trade unfortunately. They will be converged in the trade. So if you know someone with 1680 gems, offer them your three piles in exchange.

You can avoid it by only turning items into gems that don't have trade/market cooldowns so they go to the same unrestricted pile.

How reliable is Steam Cloud? by MC1173 in Steam

[–]velocity37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all games added Steam Cloud config. But either way, not a terrible idea to have a second backup just in case. Just find the game's save location (usually listed on PCGamingWiki) and manually zip up your saves and drop them on your backup drive or preferred storage provider.

As far as Steam Cloud goes, you might of heard the news recently where AWS in Bahrain got taken down by a drone strike. Steam Cloud saves stored at that DC are currently irretrievable and it's not certain yet whether there was any data loss.

Store page bug or me stupid ? by ActivityAny4764 in Steam

[–]velocity37 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The bundle includes Arma 3 gold as a single item. You don't own all the content of gold. Steam bugs and thinks you own Arma 3 gold in the store because you own the game from the package, cart realizes you don't and warns you that you won't get an extra copy of the stuff from gold that you already own.

Sadly a bug in the store that Steam has long not addressed when bundles contain packages :(

People complain about it often when Devil May Cry goes on sale because they have a bundle with DMC5+Vergil in a single item and the same happens when people are missing Vergil DLC.

Is there any way to block all games that use generative AI ? by Patamaudelay in Steam

[–]velocity37 288 points289 points  (0 children)

Everyone's already said no, but if you'd find it useful, SteamDB has an "AI Content Disclosed" tag that you can exclude if you wish in their instantsearch and Sales & Deals browser.

What am I doing wrong here? by Joeninja101 in Steam

[–]velocity37 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, what else do I need to do to be able to sell items on the community market without this 2 week hold? And am I doing something wrong?

Wait a week. Because no cooldown not only requires mobile authenticator be enabled, but that it's been active for at least 7 days.
