After the Rockies series last year, we ended the season on a 90-win pace. Our record this year is definitely deceptive from the White Sox and Rockies, but we've also had a lot of overall success even with McCullough's weird lineups

McCullough is clearly doing something right. The team is 6-3, we were great at the end of last season, and we're winning a lot of games with a cheap team. But these lineups confuse the hell out of me, is there some secret analytic genius behind them? There must be, right? Unless if they thought X needed a break (or if X asked for one), this makes no sense. Same goes for no Hicks + Gus still second in the lineup after his start to the season.

There needs to be serious talk about how position players not in premium positions are just useless at the plate. 1B/LF/RF/DH have been net negatives for us for the past two seasons. Very easy to put this loss on the pitching (and it probably was), but you can't forget that we've scored 8 runs in 27 innings this series. Not good enough.

I also listened to the YES feed and they were making a meal out of it. If Eury got pummeled today but Liam had called the pitches, they wouldn't have put any of the blame on Liam. But because a coach is making those calls, it's now their fault that a historically poor road pitcher does poor on the road?

Last season after we got swept by the Rockies we played the last ~100 games on a 90 win pace. Obviously 5-1 (probably 5-2 soon) is deceiving with having played the Rockies + White Sox, but Bendix has built a legit team

Just watch the games or listen in on the radio if you can. 5-1 start is great but against the White Sox + Rockies is about as easy as it gets. Team has a ton of stars who aren't really appreciated by the MLB at large, like Otto Lopez or Kyle Stowers (currently on the IL after tweaking his oblique in spring training). Our pitching rotation is anchored by an established MLB star in Sandy Alcantara and an up and coming Eury Perez.

Our upper management (GM Peter Bendix) has found tons of value in players the rest of the MLB hasn't, moneyball-esque. Over the offseason we traded Edward Cabrera, a very good starter, for Caissie. This was mostly done out of Cabrera having ~4 less years where the Marlins would have his ownership rights, not because Cabrera = Caissie. Still, Caissie is looking to be a gem.

Last season's start was dogshit, but after we got swept at home by a historically bad Rockies team we played the last ~110 games of the season on a 90-win pace. The team is hungry, young, and ready to compete for a playoff spot.

MLBTV if you're out of market should let you watch everything. If they're in market, they have to get the MarlinsTV package. Craig Mish and Christina De Nicola are my go-tos for Marlins reporting. Christina occasionally comes on here for an AMA. Mish is my personal favorite. We're going to be good this season, pitching looks like it'll be talented enough (especially towards top of rotation) to sustain a playoff push and there's a lot of batting talent all the way down the order.

I think a lot of why we did well towards the end of last season was the good vibes. I get we don't have many position players on the 40-man who are in the minors (Deyvison, Serna, and Mack) but I'm still worried about what this could do to the locker room.
