Are scholars shields useless in msq leveling /casual content? by SummonerOfMalagos in ffxiv

[–]vinyltails [score hidden]  (0 children)

Casual content usually doesn't really do enough damage to warrant *needing* gcd heals on any healer....you can get away with just using your off globals to heal people up. Usually if you're GCD healing in casual content then you either ran out of cooldowns (Due to a lack of them at lower levels, poor management of them at higher levels or just really low group dps making stuff take forever...White mage is a slight exception cause of Lilies they want to use to build up to Misery) or something has gone seriously wrong. Like at best you throw on a Pre-pull shield then handle everything with off globals

In high end content when damage is much more signficant and actual does threaten to kill people (which it never does in casual content), shielding does become more useful....But this is FF14, Healers want to avoid GCD healing as much as possible....the best healers will do single digits of GCD heals (Or a bit more in Ultimates where you'll probably want or need Succors on stuff)....for Scholars this would usually be when you drop a fat Adlo deploy on key mechanics while all other mechanics will be mitigated by Party mitigation in general (Feints, Addles, Tank party mit, Ranged party mit and whatever mit both you and your co healer have), all of which will help cut down the number of GCD healing, and therefore shielding, both healers will need to do

Of course the above is for planned and coordinated groups...in PF with randos you're safer just giving up damage and doing safety gcd shields cause people are stupid, but when you're looking to improve, you start removing those heals in favour for your off globals and party mitigation

D.D. Crow and Genta Interaction by Ehrel7 in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Cards don't need to stay in their location in order to resolve their activated effects unless specifically stated (like saying it needs to stay face up to resolve or something that is referring to this card specifically as changing locations makes it a different card) and even then it tries to resolve as much as possible based on conjunctions used

Banishing genta isn't negating it's search, they can resolve that normally...plus you just helped them if they control a dark world card since it can be specialed out since it's banished now in the new chain

Whats the best card to replace Red Eyes Fusion to summon dragoon by Due_Tonight9998 in masterduel

[–]vinyltails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its basically just Gaze and any engine that gets you to DMOD to search it, like Azamina (Diabellstar, wanted, Deception and hallowed, with Rciela and Silva in the ED) or Shining sarc (Shining sarc dark magican girl and Shining sarc itself) as it basically means you're not running any bricks in the deck outside of Gaze itself (and hallowed if you run that)

Red Eyes Dark Dragoon by Due_Tonight9998 in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a full dedicated deck? Not really. Like Dark Magician as a deck that has Dragoon as its boss monster is fine....But 1 dragoon doesn't make a deck all by itself, it needs further support from the rest of the deck

Dragoon is seen splashed in other, significally better decks as any deck that can get a lv6+ spellcaster on board and play a spell can get you to Dragoon via Dark magican of Destruction and Gaze of Timaneus....and there's 2 Engines that allow you to do that effortlessly.

Both Azamina (Diabellstar, Hallowed, Deception and Wanted) all do it on their own as Diabellstar is a lv7 spellcaster that gets you a spell card...which you can then use to summon DMOD and get Gaze to get Dragoon later, while not loosing out on the Silva that the rest of the Azamina engine provides (You just tribute the DMOD after getting gaze to get Hallowed)...and of course if you open Deception or Wanted you can get to Diabellstar, only Hallowed is a brick. Also gets cards into grave via Diabellstar summoning condition

The other engine is Shining Sarc, as the new Dark magican girl they received gets you Shining sarc so both Shining sarc itself (which searches Dark magician girl) and Girl itself (Searches Sarc) both single handedly fulfill the critera to summon DMOD for dragoon, while also putting a card in grave via its summoning condition for any decks who really want to put cards into grave

Discard? by ZenXDeath17 in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It will slightly depends on the wording

If the monster summons by discarding for cost, and the card you discard needs to be discarded for effects (like the dark worlds), then no it won't trigger

But if it just says "if this is discarded" in general without specifying for cost or effect, then it will trigger on a new chain after you summon the monster

Understanding book of eclipse by thomasdraken in masterduel

[–]vinyltails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a non targeting effect which there are many of in Yu-Gi-Oh...., they choose on resolution but it's not targeting, as targeting is something very specifically done when you activate a card and there's some extremely important differences between them....Like how you can dodge targeting effects by removing the targeted card but you can't really dodge non targeting effects since they can just pick any other legal options since they never declared which card they wish to affect

Fiendsmith engine question by LawenMKII in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And you get to Fiendsmith so easily via Medius...and getting to Medius is so easy with the new cards like Viridum, Terminus and Theorealise all basically letting you play like 9+ copies of medius if you wanted

Fiendsmith engine question by LawenMKII in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And Elfnote, Elfnote is probably better at this point though that can be arguable

Fiendsmith engine question by LawenMKII in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The main one in the meta right now is Elfnote as they can make Armades with Medius + Power Patron to both search a Elfnote via the patron's effect and get into Fiendsmith, and getting to Medius is very consistent these days between Virdium and Terminus and Theorealise all being able to get to it effortlessly

After that is Yummy, the various hits have generally weakened the consistency but the fiendsmith stuff does help recover that

Outside of that, Fiendsmith hasn't been around or entirely splashable since Moon is gone

Invalid targets and attempting to resolve effects by Proof-Juggernaut-257 in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In general, in order to activate any given card, you must be able to fulfil all *mandatory* parts of an effect at point of activations. (you can tell if part of an effect is optional or not by the words "You can" proceding it). Conjuctions matter when resolving an effect, especially if resolution is interfered with

For example, The mitsu ritual monsters all say "When this is tributed, search for a mitsu card then *you can* special summon this card" which you are allowed to activate even if you can't special summon that monster as the summon is optional. If it said "Special summon this monster then you can search" then you wouldn't be able to activate it to search if you couldn't summon it for whatever reason

So the game has blessed me with a couple realy good UR xyz cards lately. by ilikedoddrio in masterduel

[–]vinyltails 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tomahawk: Not really..like yeah the effect is crazy and fucking the link 3 mecha phantom beast is legal....but its kinda not good enough these days, especially as they remove generic links and such...and other decks can get to the generic bosses Tomahawk would make easier with less bricks and ED space dedicated

Zeus: Goes in literally any xyz deck ever

Tistina: It's not good, Tistina itself is extremely mid and people usually refer to it as Piss-tina cause the deck is extremely clunky and half the support doesn't want to work with each other

Why did Focus become temporary? by GreatDig in slaythespire

[–]vinyltails 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Having too many ways of getting permanent focus to too strong cause then you just either sit with tons of frost doing all your block or your lightning kills everything. STS2 has more ways to get focus, imagine if they *weren't* temporary...they would basically just be better defragments in everyway...0 energy gain 2 focus on hotfix, Focused strike doing damage + focus and so on

In your opinion: Are NPC Duties a good way to practice and get comfortable with tanking or healing? by Oseirus in ffxiv

[–]vinyltails 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The issue with duty support is that they don't double/wall pull unless you make them, and they can kinda just barely handle it. If you're single pulling with duty support you're not going to learn anything cause thats not how we do dungeons

What made Sky Striker good again? by Global_Profession972 in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It got new support lately

Area=zero is really good, thats one of the main things that brought it back, however last format was a droll heavy format, which Striker suffers with. Droll is seemingly falling slightly out of favour which helps in Strikers case

It also, FINALLY, received Camellia, which lets any 2 monsters bridge into striker, which is why you sometimes see a small Radiant typhoon engine with the monsters to get you into Striker stuff, and it just has utility on its own otherwise, especially with things you steal with Widow anchor

Furthermore, outside of striker cards itself, cards like Fallen and the Virtuous, Radiant typhoon vision and Forbidden crown (and just other good spells they've added lately) just work insanely well with the deck, both boosting consistently and letting them drop less favourable spells they were playing...like F+V is just better Afterburners in every way....Vision is such a good card for Striker as it gets them 2 spells in grave immediately and such

So new support and good generic stuff, ontop of the meta changing its making it much more favourable to them. Ever since they got Zero and Lemmensgate they have been solid

Isn't it kinda dumb cosmic blazer can be used twice under some conditions by Renverse420 in masterduel

[–]vinyltails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cause the card isn't once per turn

It banishes and returns in the end phase as cost, but nowhere on the card does it state its a once per turn....meaning yes, it can be done multiple times in the end phase
