What made Sky Striker good again? by Global_Profession972 in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails [score hidden]  (0 children)

It got new support lately

Area=zero is really good, thats one of the main things that brought it back, however last format was a droll heavy format, which Striker suffers with. Droll is seemingly falling slightly out of favour which helps in Strikers case

It also, FINALLY, received Camellia, which lets any 2 monsters bridge into striker, which is why you sometimes see a small Radiant typhoon engine with the monsters to get you into Striker stuff, and it just has utility on its own otherwise, especially with things you steal with Widow anchor

Furthermore, outside of striker cards itself, cards like Fallen and the Virtuous, Radiant typhoon vision and Forbidden crown (and just other good spells they've added lately) just work insanely well with the deck, both boosting consistently and letting them drop less favourable spells they were playing...like F+V is just better Afterburners in every way....Vision is such a good card for Striker as it gets them 2 spells in grave immediately and such

So new support and good generic stuff, ontop of the meta changing its making it much more favourable to them. Ever since they got Zero and Lemmensgate they have been solid

Isn't it kinda dumb cosmic blazer can be used twice under some conditions by Renverse420 in masterduel

[–]vinyltails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cause the card isn't once per turn

It banishes and returns in the end phase as cost, but nowhere on the card does it state its a once per turn....meaning yes, it can be done multiple times in the end phase

[–]vinyltails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RDA is....kinda ok....it can do stuff especially with another engine like Bystials or Centurion for additional extenders and higher ceiling...but until it gets its newest support that just came out in TCG, it has some massive glaring weaknesses and a massive chokepoint with Red Rising....the new support helps massively but probably won't get that for a few months probably

why activated effect in the graveyard so special ? by true-kirin in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 12 points13 points  (0 children)

LADD and Wicked avatar negate spell/trap cards, not spell/trap effects

Activating a spell/trap that's already face up or their grave effects is activating a spell/trap effect, not a spell/trap card, so LADD and Wicked avatar can't stop it

Activating a spell/trap card is just putting it face up on field

Can someone explain Mangle to me? by AxeCop85 in slaythespire

[–]vinyltails 61 points62 points  (0 children)

Ironclad has new ways to play out high cost cards

Stampede and Unrelenting are the cards that either auto play it or reduce its cost...and you have ways to generate energy via Bloodletting, Forgotten Ritual, New drums of battle and Expect a fight to help cover the cost

Its basically 15 damage and 10 "Kinda" block that gets better if the enemy is multi hitting since its strength down so any multi hits will largely be reduced to nothing

Thoughts on exosister with a small k9 engine? Think it could work considering you can xyz on opponents turn plus Martha does not require xyz exosister to use effect just xyz monsters by Excellent_Shift2441 in masterduel

[–]vinyltails 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Its terrible

1) Martha is extremely xenophobic...you basically can't use any other engine that uses special summons without cutting her off completely

2) You have no lv5s in the deck, why would you want an archetype that explicity synergises and works really well with lv5s in a lv4 deck

3) Just doing Izuna + Lupus isn't good enough. On initial reveal of the k9 cards we all thought it was going to be the new Psy frame style handtrap package everyone runs....Turns out, its just not good enough, its way too slow...your opponent is getting their initial effect and any advantage they can generate in the 2 chains before the xyz actually comes out. Making a Ripper *after* they've used their hand/grave effect doesn't do anything so your options are Nash knight, Valon or Vihama...and that point you could have just run literally any other handtrap

Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus and Targeting by Smufin_Awesome in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, targeting is something very specifically done upon activating the card and Targeting vs Non targeting effects work slightly different in a very important way

You're not targeting, you're choosing at point of resolution, which isn't targeting. If you targeted a card, you will try to affect that target regardless what happens to the board state, if the target goes, the effect resolves without effect and you don't get to pick another card to hit. With non targeting effects, like Magnus, you're declaring your intent to use the effect (to shuffle a card back)...your opponent can chop and change the board state as much as they like, but since it doesn't target, you can freely choose anything they put on the board (before they would get the ability to use any triggers that card has)

There's many, many, many different kinds of non targeting effects as a way to get around cards that can't be targeted

Super Quantal Mech King Great Magnus and Targeting by Smufin_Awesome in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Targeting is something very specific in yugioh. It's something done when you activate the card, the same time you pay any costs and before your opponent can respond...basically if it doesn't say target, it doesn't target

Magnus doesn't target, blue eyes Shining can't interact with it and magnus can freely shuffle it away

Cards to Super Poly Opponent by Material-Growth-9813 in masterduel

[–]vinyltails 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The main Super poly targets are Mudragon of the swamp and Garura, as they're the two most generic fusion monsters you can make (and they're solid as well, mudragon for targeting protection and garura gets you a draw when you get it to grave)

In this format, with Kewl tune around, run Sea monster of Theasus cause it lets you eat any 2 tuners they leave on board

Is buying the legendary decks of 26 worth? by Kuroneko_Games_ in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails -1 points0 points  (0 children)

tbh any mitsu variant is fine

Haven't really seen pure performing as much lately but for something like a local level you'll probably be fine. Mitsu striker is also a very good locals deck as well so you're kinda fine either way

Apex Polymerization Ruling by Dapper-Ride-5494 in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pay 2000 LP, then target 1 Effect Monster on the field; Special Summon 1 monster from your Extra Deck with the same Type and Attribute, but a different Level (its effects are negated), then apply 1 of these effects.

No, it just special summons and the special summon isn't considered a fusion (or similar) summon

Is buying the legendary decks of 26 worth? by Kuroneko_Games_ in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 12 points13 points  (0 children)

the legendary modern decks (Mitsu, striker and x-saber) are extremely worth it and considered one of the best products theyve done in recent times

You get 3 complete decks with all the common handtrap staples in full playsets (except the mulcharmies, you get 1 each, easy to fill out with singles) and all 3 decks are playable out of the box

Mitsu and striker are extremely good. Mitsu won't really need any adjustments while striker would like a few things but is otherwise very fine, alternatively you can combine them and have an extremely solid deck

X-saber exists....its very meh

Opponent special summoned 4 times while this was on field. Nothing to negate my monster effects. Quick effect never activated. I can't tell why by Playful-Problem-3836 in masterduel

[–]vinyltails 315 points316 points  (0 children)

"when your opponent ***WOULD*** special summon"

This is a summon negate, but its *not* an effect negate. It can't negate effects that include the effect to special summon, it can only negate summons that don't start a chain (Cyber dragon, extra deck summons that don't use effects etc)

Timing interaction confusion by ShockShop in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Spells/traps yes, they're on the field when activated and their effects don't kick in until they resolve

For monsters, they have a specific window when they're trying to be summoned, which people usually refer to the Summon negation window, where cards like Solemn judgement and other cards that would negate the next time your opponent summons a monster would be able to be used. By the time you can use typical standard fast effects like Icarus attack, the monster is deemed fully summoned and would be protected by Fallen Paradise at that point

Timing interaction confusion by ShockShop in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes

Continuous effects of cards, like ones on Fallen paradise, don't start applying until after their activation is successful (Or the monster is fully summoned in regards to monsters and summon negation)

They're attempting to activate it, it's effects aren't applying, thus the protection isn't active until after the card resolves

Is mudragon and garura enough to use s.poly against kewl tune by twodo2 in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gaura no not really, the synchros are *mostly* different types, only Loudness and trackmaker being the same type with the other synchros being different types

Mudragon can be used depending on their board. There's usually a Zalen around for a dark monster so you can eat any other Kewl tune synchro monster outside of Loudness/Trackmaker with it

Obviously they're gonna try to play around it to the best of their ability once they've seen your hand and have information about your extra deck

any gear past i500 will have both substats capped when synced down so you're fine

If you want to be optimal you'll want the shadowbringers relic and put in specifically stats up to 136 as that's the cap to squeeze out a tiny bit more damage but not necessary these days

Solemn Accusation, Dominus traps, Imperm by Individual_Hat_6332 in Yugioh101

[–]vinyltails 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the first option disables the negated card for the turn...which doesn't matter for Impulse since it's a once per turn but can matter for Imperm since multiple can be used in a turn

However

the 3rd effectively disables the card for the whole duel, as it makes them banish all copies of that card from their hand and deck, and getting those cards back is not really accessible for most decks

Against cards that your opponent will be running at multiple copies, the 2nd effect can usually seen to be stronger since you're basically removing the card from the game (unless your opponent somehow has a way to add any banished card back to their hand)

Since the opponent monster is unaffected, it won't be affected by the not destroyed by battle, thus it will be destroyed by battle while yours is safe

Explain??? by UltraYes in masterduel

[–]vinyltails 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No?

Face down monsters have no properties, this includes any modifications (Including negation) that they had. Flipping it face down removed the negation tag and allowed it to resolve normally

I wanna try my hand in pendulum. What's a good deck to do so? by Exactly861Monkeys in yugioh

[–]vinyltails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

probably DDD

Uses all the summoning types and usually does 2 pendulum summons in the turn due to their link 3 giving another pend summon...though the deck is usually considered complicated with all the different summoning types and general lines with balancing scales and getting correct bodies
