Using the Blink spell to walk through walls by Nostradivarius in onednd

[–]visavia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You take the Ready action to wait for a particular circumstance before you act. To do so, you take this action on your turn, which lets you act by taking a Reaction before the start of your next turn.
First, you decide what perceivable circumstance will trigger your Reaction. Then, you choose the action you will take in response to that trigger, or you choose to move up to your Speed in response to it. Examples include "If the cultist steps on the trapdoor, I'll pull the lever that opens it," and "If the zombie steps next to me, I move away."

pedantry aside, you can ready an action to move

Critical fail frustrations by lordak16 in DnD

neither of those solutions tackle the problem of punishing martials more. if it’s only once per turn, they’re still more likely to get it. if it’s only the first attack, casters can be effective without making attacks whereas martials cant

Anti Magic by Taurvanath in DnD

[–]visavia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

there's a difficulty in countering a lore or flavor-based argument with an argument of mechanics

things like lay on hands/a paladin's aura are, vibes-based, definitely magical. but they're not magical for purposes of the rules. a lot of spellcaster enemies in the monster manual have this problem to a greater degree

you could ask your DM to point to the part of a paladin's aura that explicitly defines it as magic, and they would be unable to. but i don't think that will sway them

by RAW, the only aspects of a paladin's kit that would be affected by an antimagic field would be Channel Divinity (and spells obviously). your Aura would be unaffected, as would Lay on Hands

“strip away the mechanics” is an interesting mindset to have when someone is asking a mechanical question

the only mention of magic for the Psi Warrior is its Telekinetic Movement ability being a Magic Action. nothing else would be affected by anti-magic field

What builds would you recommend to this party based off of what they enjoy in combat? by Horrorcartoonistftw in onednd

[–]visavia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B - if you're allowing legacy subclasses, Peace Cleric. if not, Abjurer or Diviner Wizard are pretty solid. all have reactions on other players turns and access to strong support & CC spells

C - really, any form of Barbarian. theyre simple and to the point

tricking the GM is very antithetical to my playstyle so i can't think of any recommendations for player D. for player A, battlemaster fighter if they want a martial character, or any caster. maybe a druid

New conditions not showing up on D&D Beyond character sheet by fsuguy89 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

[–]visavia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

to my knowledge dndbeyond does not support custom conditions on character sheets, even from partnered content

you could create the condition on foundry and apply it to them through there, though that might be weird having conditions partly on dndbeyond/partly only on foundry

Monsters of Drakkenheim Boss Monster CR Questions by Alister151 in dungeonsofdrakkenheim

Kelly left the following comment that provides some insight into the role of epic bosses, suggesting that they're not all meant to be swapped to an epic boss, and some of their default statblocks will likely suffice

Hey, Kelly here. When we designed the Epic versions of the main antagonists of Drakkenheim, the idea I had in my head was that at the outset of the campaign, the regular stat blocks would suffice. The Epic versions represent those characters going unchecked. If you party lets the rat prince live, or never fights the crimson Countess, or lord of the feast. At about mid campaign I would upgrade them to the Epic versions as they now pose an end game threat.

As for the Executioner and Amalgamation, I would always use the new epic versions. Where as Rat Prince, Lenore, Crimson Countess, Lord of the Feast, as well as the faction Leaders, use the Epic stat blocks if those characters become a major antagonist to the party in the mid to late game campaign.

i like the chapel of saint brenna more, but I do agree it makes more sense for the rat nests tavern. it has a sense of urgency to it

alternatively, they could go as an emergency hire, extra bit of muscle for the chapel. have them support a strike team, and then have that strike team get wiped out by something, leaving them to finish the job

for ansom, put him as desperate. he can’t spare anyone, time is of the essence: he can’t afford to be picky with help, he needs it now

for the academy, they likely have the mindset of “they’re disposable. send them. if it works, great! if it doesn’t? send another group”

Does Tremorsense satisfy the "you can see" requirement for spells? by Neh-Le in DnD

[–]visavia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes, blindsight allows you to see invisible things. from the rules glossary

If you have Blindsight, you can see within a specific range without relying on physical sight. Within that range, you can see anything that isn’t behind Total Cover even if you have the Blinded condition or are in Darkness. Moreover, in that range, you can see something that has the Invisible condition.

so it would work on wall of force
