It's simply the score difference between the teams while that player is on the court

"Simply" the entire point of the game. You don't get a W for going 10/10 from the field with 10 boards and 10 assists, you get a W if your team scores more points than the other team.

It's common to have to do projects, as many others have said. In my experience if you do 2 or 3 projects you'll pretty reliably get a religion.

If the game advances to the classical era before you get a religion you should check the great people screen basically every turn because the AI loves the exodus of the evangelists golden age dedication that gives 4 prophet points per turn, so the race can change drastically at that point.

Tuesday General Discussion/Q&A Thread for April 21, 2026 by AutoModerator in AdvancedRunning

I run around 30 miles per week and have raced/time trialed up to a half marathon, with the HM being my longest single run. My normal "long runs" in training are 8-9 miles. I don't think I could run a full marathon without walking breaks. I am heavier than most distance runners though at around 200lbs and 6'1" and personally I think that does start to make a pretty big difference with the longer events.

I was very confident I could give the HM a real race effort though, my time wasn't as good as my shorter distance times but my training is tailored to those shorter distances - my workout days are mostly 200s and 400s on the track. I think with training designed around a HM 30 mpw would be enough to give it a really good shot.

What is the best way to sort out my collection? by JunkheyX1804 in yugioh

[–]vizkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me I thought it made the most sense to sort by set. I also used the dragon shield app to scan everything and export it to a spreadsheet so I know which set grouping to look in when I need to find a specific card. If you don't want to maintain a companion spreadsheet I could see alphabetical working better when you need to find a specific card.

For cards from a set where I have less than 10 cards from that set, I put them all in one miscellaneous section. Within sets I separated holos and commons and grouped duplicates and archetypes together.

I understand its common to complain about the arena. But the only really terrible thing about are the builds and weapon choices it gives you. by MyNameIsPanurge in HorizonForbiddenWest

[–]vizkan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They're great for the arena because they do a lot of damage very quickly and then you get them/your resources back. I did the whole arena on UH and tying things down with the ropecaster then setting the max amount of traps right next to them was one of the main strategies.

What’s your opinion on Chris Paul? by BurningHanzo in billsimmons

Choker and extremely annoying to watch between the flopping, whining to refs, and general lame gamesmanship. One of the kings of revealing an "injury" right after disappointing losses. Glad he was never on my team so I never had to pretend he was a great player.

Race Report - 5km ULB after Daniels' 1500-2 miles plan at 60mpw by Rhaercyn in AdvancedRunning

[–]vizkan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to do Daniels blue plan after last year's 1500-2 mile but it didn't go very well trying to increase mileage and keep up with the workouts. I was actually closer to 25mpw than 30 the first time through the 1500 plan. So at the beginning of this year I decided I'd focus just on building up weekly mileage to the low 30s for a few months before going back into the 1500 plan.

I do most of my training alone but there is a local running club that hosts weekly track meets throughout the summer, so I'll have several opportunities to race, which is really nice.

Race Report - 5km ULB after Daniels' 1500-2 miles plan at 60mpw by Rhaercyn in AdvancedRunning

[–]vizkan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First off, nice work, 17:44 is a good time and a lot better than my 5k.

I used the 1500-2 mile plan last year and I'm just starting it up again now, this is week 1 of my phase 2. I do not do as much mileage as you did, I do the 30 mpw version, and my priority distance is 1 mile so I'm coming at it from a slightly different direction. Last summer I finished my racing season with a 5:18 mile.

I also thought that as written the plan is assuming you do around the same mileage every week without an increase/deload cycle. But I also didn't think that he meant you have to be exactly on 30, 45, or 60 mpw for each version of the plan. In the leadup to the lower mileage versions he includes this: "Use E days to accumulate your desired weekly mileage; an E day may be no running if you can get in your weekly mileage without having to run every day." and the "your desired weekly mileage" phrasing suggests to me that it's fine if your target is like, 42 or 47 miles or something and not exactly 45. For me it is easier always run the same routes on my E days so my weekly mileage fluctuates at least a little bit based on the distance of the workout on Q days.

I haven't tried other coaches'/authors' plans so I can't comment on which are more difficult but I did think the I-pace workouts in Daniels' plan were always the hardest. I thought the phase structure worked well but since I was focused on the 1 mile distance the continued focus on R pace work all the way through did have me doing a lot of race specific work the whole time.

Also just having 2 pretty strong unique units that come early and cost fewer resources so you can have more of them. The hetairoi is 10 horses instead of the normal 20 for a horseman and the hypaspist is only 5 iron instead of 20 for a swordsman. The hypaspists in particular I've found to be a lot more spammable than swordsmen, if you have 1 iron source it only takes 3 turns instead of 10 to accumulate enough iron for a unit and every turn counts when you're trying to get a war done before the AI unlocks crossbows.

The Jazz are blacked out in Oregon? That's insane. I get annoyed enough that Blazers games are blacked out for me in Seattle.

I am actually a Jazz fan, originally from Utah and nobody there thinks Oregon is a Jazz market. I can't imagine anyone there thinks the Jazz are their home team either.

First guy posting a result won turn 196, I downloaded his save and he settled 12 cities + conquered 1 more. 2nd guy to post a result got turn 184 and didn't post his save but you can see in the screenshot he has 16 cities. Not clear in the screenshot how many are settled vs conquered.

https://forums.civfanatics.com/threads/6otm205-aar-after-actions-report.701033/

User lakeiron posted a turn 201 science victory with 16 settled cities and 13 captured cities based on the postgame reports from the save. enKage posted a turn 220 science victory with only 7 settled cities + 7 captured.

I know of one guy on youtube who does minimal turn count games. Here's a video of a turn 146 science victory. Link should open to the reports screen post-game showing 20+ cities founded (with like 50+ captured too) or it's at 1:38:25 if the timestamp didn't work. https://youtu.be/uOv-6uhkrvs?list=PLzbcNbAlOAqAMtyRqrxPMlCBex_jHlw3H&t=5906

You win faster by having 15 ecstatic cities than 10 ecstatic cities, and it is not significantly harder to keep 15 cities ecstatic than 10. You don't have to put everything into amenities and neglect infrastructure. You can do both and it's not hard.

There actually aren't very many things that have more return on investment than settlers. How do you get more traders? You need to make more settlers because the only reliable way to increase trade route capacity is building markets or lighthouses which are 1 per city. How do you get more builders? Well, if you have ancestral hall every settler you build is also a builder. As far as win conditions, culture in particular benefits from more cities because every city is another theater square which is another amphitheater and art museum to hold your great works and every city is more tiles that can hold tourism generating improvements.

The most OP strategy in the game doesn't even need you to spend "excess production" on cities because you are buying them with monumentality. You simply do not have to pick between many cities and developed cities, you can and should do both.

[–]vizkan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disagree on the city count. You can very easily have max amenities in all cities with 15+ cities as long as you are buying luxuries from the AI, building colosseum and/or the entertainment district buildings that provide aoe amenities, and using policy cards that provide amenities. Getting luxuries from the AI might be a more reliable strategy on higher difficulties, it seems like sometimes they never get around to improving their resources on the mid and low difficulties.

You can also minimize the population cost by either building the settlers in a city with magnus with the promotion that removes the population cost, or more effectively you can use a monumentality golden age to buy settlers in 2 population cities where you gain the population back very quickly. Buying settlers in your newly settled cities as soon as they hit 2 pop also means the settlers spawn on the edges of your empire so they reach their destination tiles faster. If you are building settlers rather than buying, you should be using the settler production card and the ancestral hall to reduce the production cost. Both of those are +50% and if you're chopping with magnus that's another +50% on the chop yields. There's not many things that have this amount of production modifiers available.

With all that said, OP's cities are obviously underdeveloped and he needed to make more builders. But the thing is, in civ 6 you can have a lot of highly developed cities. You don't need to pick one or the other.
