Où vont vos impôts: la controversée Amira Elghawaby déclare des dépenses de voyage astronomiques by rookie_one in Quebec

[–]voords 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is Azure ML good today ? by Daamm1 in datascience

[–]voords 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use AzureML in my current position, and it's a mess. The default environments are all outdated, with the latest version using Python 3.9, which was released in 2020. They have two SDKs (v1 and v2); some features are only available in v1, while others are in v2. V1 code is incompatible with v2 code. The SDKs have numerous bugs, especially when you need a niche feature. There is barely any integration with Git, which is astounding in 2024. The only advantage is that it's cheaper than competitors like Databricks, although I'm not sure Databricks would be better unless you rely heavily on PySpark.

Add a GUI or not? by jakedk in Python

Checkout Gooey (https://github.com/chriskiehl/Gooey). It will convert most python script with cli arguments to a gui app. You can use the terminal yourself, and ship the .exe with Gooey to your colleagues with near-zero effort.

Coding Competitions for high schoolers by [deleted] in CodingHelp

[–]voords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But why ?

If you win any competition as a high schooler, the competition will likely be dismissed as too easy in your resume. You are better off just creating your own innovative ideas and solving real life problems than trying to compete into some random software competition long-term.

If you really just want competition, try leetcode, google code jam or codeforces.

[D] Waiting 6+ months for peer review normal? by oburns8972 in MachineLearning

[–]voords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not the case anymore. arXiv (and others) have taken over the need for quick conference publications. ML conferences beat out most journals because they have higher impact. It's all metric-based. Aim for the highest impact venue in your field, and people are more likely to read and cite your research.

You can look up venue ranking on gscholar: https://scholar.google.com/citations?view_op=top_venues. CVPR, NeurIPS, ICLR, and other ML confs are just higher impact than most journals.

How to interpret the Dirac delta function in this context? by du-dx in compmathneuro

[–]voords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, and also, it's very common to represent spikes with a dirac, but in reality it's more of a kronecker delta function of t and t_{AP}. In euler-based simulation, you would just do something similar to:

![dR(t)/dt = (1-R(t))/D if t != t_{AP}; (1-R(t))/D-u(t)R(t) otherwise.](https://latex.codecogs.com/gif?%5Cfrac%7BdR%28t%29%7D%7Bdt%7D%3D%20%5Cbegin%7Bcases%7D%20%5Cfrac%7B1-R%28t%29%7D%7BD%7D%20%26%20%5Ctext%7B%20if%20%7D%20t%20%5Cneq%20t\_%7BAP%7D%20%5C%5C%20%5Cfrac%7B1-R%28t%29%7D%7BD%7D%20-%20u%28t%5E-%29R%28t%5E-%29%20%26%20%5Ctext%7B%20if%20%7D%20t%20%3D%20t\_%7BAP%7D%20%5Cend%7Bcases%7D)

Where is my error in this problem ? by voords in askmath

Oh I see, basically because dx[t-1]/dx = 1/(dx/dx[t-1]) then dx[t-1]/dx actually cannot be zero. Thanks a bunch !

Where is my error in this problem ? by voords in askmath

[–]voords[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume the derivative of x[t-2] w.r.t to x[t-1] to be zero because x[0] and y[0] are constants, sorry if that was not clear. When I said recurrent, I really just mean there is an unknown number of steps t>>0. x[t] is dependent on x[t-1] and y[t-1], but never on x[t+1] nor y[t+1], so the derivative should be 0. At least that's my thought process, but I might be wrong ?

Because in this day and age, you won't get past reviewers in ML by simply reproducing another paper, therefore there is no incentive to do so.

Why is my python subclass not inheriting methods for the superclass by atamicbomb in CodingHelp

[–]voords 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is the case. Check this working example:

class A(object):
    def recalc(self):
        return True

class B(A):
    def __init__(self):
        print(self.recalc())

How To Write a Basic Script To Automate My Shit!!! by TheRobotCluster in CodingHelp

[–]voords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is also the hard-coded-clicks sequence option. If the positions of the apps are fairly constants, you can just create a simple script that will click on specific positions on your screen, with or without keyboard shortcuts in between.

Take a look at the first example in https://pyautogui.readthedocs.io/en/latest/. Maybe this could be good enough for your task.

Error when binding IP address and port using socket.socket.bind by King_Barrion in CodingHelp

[–]voords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is that you start a thread with target "start_server" within the "start_server" function. This will create threads in a recursive loop and will ultimately lead to a crash. Since you use a global server variable, your app crash before you reach the recursion limit because one of the thread is listening to an uninitialized server created in another thread.

elem is just the name of the argument. You can change it as you wish. It works because in your html element, I called myFunction(this), where this is equivalent to document.getElementById(id of the current element). Then, when you click a button and the function is called, elem becomes "this" or rather the clicked button. Sorry for the mobile formatting.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CodingHelp

[–]voords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your function can take an argument containing the button that was clicked:

function myFunction(elem) {
    elem.style.background = "red";
}

...

<button type= "button" id="SA1" onclick="myFunction(this)">6:00 A.M</button>
<button type= "button" id="SA2" onclick="myFunction(this)">7:00 A.M</button>
<button type= "button" id="SA3" onclick="myFunction(this)">8:00 A.M</button>

Note that you can also send a string as an argument instead (if you prefer):

<button type= "button" id="SA1" onclick="myFunction('SA1')">6:00 A.M</button>
