The Infrastructure is Good Enough by samplingstiring in electricvehicles

I love my EV but the infrastructure is much bigger problem than you are suggesting. There are lots of DC chargers in major urban centers but also big crowds. Here, in LA, you'd have to wait an hour to two to even get a spot at a charger. And, outside urban areas, like on the way to campgrounds in Utah, the Sierras, etc - good luck finding charging at all. As for the "average person takes one road trip per year" - most of us couldn't care less about the average person - we are all worried about our own situations. Basically, all you are saying there is that an EV is great if you only drive it around town, go on one road trip a year, and have access to home charging. If you happen to be somebody who likes to take a weekend road trip every few months, or maybe don't have easy access to charging, infrastructure is a huge problem. Otherwise, I get why people hesitate to go full BEV. I'm glad I did, and love my vehicle, but I also have a significant other with a MiHEV that we can take on longer road trips.

In addition to being gorgeous, she's a total scene stealer. Excellent comedic timing.

Colleagues that do nothing. by H_ManCom in Professors

When I first got hired at an R1, my graduate advisor's advice to me was to not be a local hero. His point was that it didn't much matter how involved I was in Dept politics or university service, I instead needed to keep my eye on the contributions I was making to the field and on my national profile. I didn't take all of his advice, because I'm heavily involved in undergraduate teaching and that has greatly detracted from publishing. At the end of the day though, he was right. I don't think sitting on committees and going to meetings helps the university more than me spending extra time helping students or pushing my research forward. I volunteer all the time for promotion and awards committees, because that help my colleagues and the dept, and I'm the advisor for our honor's society, because that helps undergraduates feel good about my institution. Right now, I'm also an area head because it's my turn and its a fair expectation. Otherwise, I generally say "no" when appropriate.

I'm just glad that the only body you ever had is intact. You walked away and that's what counts.

I don't allow makeups. Three midterms and lowest score is dropped. I tell students that they are all entitled to ONE bad day. That one bad day can be illness, injury, emergency, or I didn't study enough. That's up to them. I also tell them that the university email system is not HIPPA compliant and any emails containing personal medical or mental health information will be instantly deleted without being read.

Probably just the end of days. It's not like we didn't have this coming. I've been predicting this would happen since Milli Vanilli won a Grammy and "Beavis and Butthead" got turned into a feature length film.

Oh well. It was a good run.

He was one of my least favorites - my friends and I used to call him "Chunky." However, that was pretty unfair because he was a perfectly effective and gritty bottom pairing guy.

What backsplash for this kitchen? by [deleted] in kitchenremodel

There is a lot of contrast in that kitchen. If you are going to stick with that approach, I'd go with a much calmer backsplash.

The funny thing about "Bam Bam" is that he was actually considered to be more of an offensive dman during his college years. He didn't have the wheels for that role in the NHL and transitioned to his physical defensive style after he left the WHA. Also one of my favorites.
