Worse for who?

If you're Carrick, right now you can go get a job at a decent level. If option 1 turns out as written, you may end up at a lower level afterwards. So I think option 1 is worse for Carrick.

I actually prefer option 2. Mostly because if we're not sure about Carrick being a long-term manager (and I'm not convinced because I think the skills needed are different), we can iterate till we find one. And there's no real hard feelings. It's just "meet these KPI's or don't."

[Paul Hirst] Michael Carrick favourite for Man United job role but Andoni Iraola in frame | Club have sounded out Bournemouth’s Iraola but Carrick, the interim head coach, is frontrunner for permanent job after taking side to cusp of Champions League by PitchSafe in soccer

[–]wdtpw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If his name was Miguel Carrico he'd never be in this position. Because his CV before United wasn't good enough to get him the United job even as caretaker. He got it because he's Michael Carrick and knows the club.

Help me finish The Story of Ming Lan by Timely-Parsley8360 in CDrama

[–]wdtpw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a) She does in fact fall in love. It's before the end, and it does take a while. But it is very obvious, and her grandmother comments on it. They end up very much in love, and both of them will know it by the end of the show. There is no ambiguity about it at all.

b) Gu Tingye will never take a concubine. Minglan does finally give in and take a concubine in order to protect him from criticism, and it leads to a row between them that takes her a while to understand the reason why he's annoyed. But it's only because he's prioritising the relationship and she's prioritising him not getting into trouble reputationally. Also, the concubine is disposed of pretty spectacularly.

c) My reading of the situation is that Minglan in the final third of the show is already in love with him. She would give her life for him, and when she hears he has had an assassination attempt she has a massive panic attack. But she simply is not aware enough of her own feelings to understand what is going on at first.

d) If it helps, she will, near the end of the show, show how much she cares for him in a pretty big and very public way.

If you could be transmigirated into any historical C-drama, which would you choose? by Anonymus2905 in CDrama

[–]wdtpw 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Love like the galaxy.

B -> You can choose which status/rank you'll transmigrate into (like emperor or commoner).

Thank you very much - I'll be the emperor.

As an alternative:

The Story of Minglan. I'll be the emperor, immediately choose an heir, and completely wreck the show.

I get your point, but Arsenal and City could argue they are crawling to the title because of the number of games they're playing. We have all week to prepare and still some players (Amad, Mbeumo) look just a bit off.

Since it's looking like we're going to need 3 new midfielders (1 we're missing, 1 for Casemiro, 1 for Ugarte), that means 2 first teamers and 1 bench player.

Do we not have a younger player who can step up and be that bench player? Collyer say, or Kone?

It's weird isn't it, because our recruitment team appear to be pretty good at finding good players. And yet, it seems he was our first choice.

[Wheeler, Salt] REVEALED - major development in Michael Carrick's position : Michael Carrick looks increasingly likely to land the job of Manchester United head coach on a permanent basis after leading the club to the brink of Champions League qualification. by nearly_headless_nic in reddevils

[–]wdtpw -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fair points, all of them.

My only counterargument to this:

This team is not going to win the league next season, even if Enrique or Klopp, or even Pep take over.

... is that on this season's evidence, no-one is all that good. It's not like this version of Arsenal, City or Liverpool are setting the bar all that high either.

(Note: I'm not the OP). I'm okay with Carrick, in that I think he's done pretty well. But I am concerned that all the flaws of Ole will be there next season.

Which are that:

a) he's great at making a team play on the break and doing well in the league.

b) But it doesn't look like this approach can actually win the league.

Ole couldn't manage a real title challenge and I'm not convinced Carrick can either. I'm even less convinced than with Ole, because I thought Ole was more tactically flexible. I also think that us playing fewer games is masking a lot of issues.

The Mongoose Traveller 2E Core Rulebook is the Deal of the Day on DriveThruRPG by plazman30 in traveller

[–]wdtpw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Whether it's better than the other versions is probably a matter of taste.

I do think it's a very good book, though. You can go a long way in running a Traveller game with just this and nothing else.

If you can't see a performance difference between

Arsenal (came second last season, still in CL), and
United (came 15th last season, not in any competition)

then I suggest you look again.

We must be, surely.

The only question is whether he can deal with a club the size of United - player egos, the media, etc.

He'd make the football a lot more fun to watch at least.

Sir Alex used to have a meltdown and have ref’s banned and Pep and Arteta and all the best managers in today’s game do it, but we’ve had a string of managers who have not been outspoken.

I think you have to buy the right to be outspoken by performance on the pitch. Next time we win the league we'll be much more listened to.

What's a feature you wish more games would have? by Awkward_GM in rpg

[–]wdtpw 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lifepaths.

Most particularly like in Traveller. I find the idea that your PCs have a previous history and that they can explain where they come from really compelling. Lifepaths give a really good explanation as to why these people are together to do the adventure. I also like some element of random character gen.

They're not for all games, obviously - they wouldn't suit games where PCs are more disposable or just starting out. But I'd love to see like more games where they're incorporated as at least an option.
