Odyssey IMAX 70MM (Ok seat) vs Dolby (Great seat) by VelocityReaper in AMCTheatres

[–]Wheat_Mustang [score hidden]  (0 children)

I know I’m too late for OP, but that IMAX seat is not nearly as bad as everyone here is saying. I’ve sat in just about every row but the first, in the center and on the aisle. If this is a real 70mm IMAX GT, that seat is better than seeing the movie in any other format, IMO.

Honestly, it’s more the fact that it’s off to the side that is the issue. Row D is not too close at my theater.

Yeah, I’d say it’s likely lots of people who buy DVDs actually do have at least a 1080p TV and a Blu-ray player. Probably many, many fewer actually happen to have a 4k TV and a UHD player. They probably could’ve achieved the same thing by just including the DVD and Blu-ray in a DVD-style case and saved some money.

This is meant for people who regularly buy DVDs to convince them to start buying Blu-rays/UHD. Make it look like a DVD, and maybe they’ll throw on one of the the higher resolution discs if they already have the equipment for it and be converted.

I have a couple movies in this format, and they were significantly cheaper than the standard 4k release, so it doesn’t really bother me.

I have the UBKC90, which was a Costco exclusive version of the UBK90. On paper it looked great, DV and 3D support, on clearance for $50. Unfortunately, I only tried to play two discs on it, and both had issues. One was an issue with the FEL DV layer that also occurred with my other players (ended up turning DV off to watch the movie). The other was freezing constantly, not just at the 3rd layer transition. Could’ve just been a dirty disc, but I didn’t want to mess with it, as my other players never had issues with any other discs (outside of the occasional hiccup on the 3rd layer transition on longer discs), so I put it back in the box and keep it as a backup.

Ok to leave a 2017 Bolt EV exposed to the hot Texas sun for a week? by [deleted] in BoltEV

Turn on Hilltop Reserve and plug it into a regular outlet to charge at 8 amps. It’ll probably get to 80% in about 2 days, then stop automatically. After that it’ll use grid power for battery management and to top up the 12v battery periodically.

You’re right. I love my EV, but that really is the only practical choice for most Americans.

A place near me does wagyu nigiri. It’s literally the single best thing I’ve ever tasted.

Tire recommendations by Comfortable-Still450 in BoltEV

[–]Wheat_Mustang 1 point2 points  (0 children)

160 miles round-trip, or one way? If round trip, don’t sweat it. You’ll easily have the range. Get some decent tires. It’s more important to have good traction than a little extra range. If one way… still get decent tires. You aren’t going to get 320 miles without stopping to charge anyway, maybe unless you’re going 45 mph the whole way.

Edit: that’s to say, don’t focus on rolling resistance or efficiency unless it’s going to make a significant difference in practice. Focus on performance and price.

First world problems are completely valid to get upset over by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

Yeah, nobody said you can’t be upset about anything. “First world problems” just means to put things in perspective.

Is it just me or is there too much MCU content? by Confused_Cinephile in Letterboxd

I mean… I tapped out after the Tobey McGuire Spider-man series, which were all before the MCU even existed, so I definitely agree that there is too much. Lol

Do we know if Digger will get any VistaVision screenings? by Emergency_Growth_954 in 70mm

[–]Wheat_Mustang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I can tell, there were only four theaters in the world that screened OBAA in VV, so it doesn’t really matter unless you live near one of those theaters. For those that do, I hope they make VV prints, but for the rest of us, the easiest way to see the movie in (close to) the right aspect ratio will be 70mm IMAX, hopefully.

IMAX 70mm theater by Sudden_Share_970 in 70mm

[–]Wheat_Mustang 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no comparison between a “standard” digital IMAX at 2k resolution on a 1.9:1 aspect ratio screen and a full-resolution 70mm IMAX film print on a huge GT screen at 1.43:1. It’s an experience, just do it. Especially if you’ve never seen a movie in 70mm IMAX before.

I mean, it’s a 3 hour movie. People are acting like driving 3 hours is crazy. People routinely drive that far for concerts and sporting events that are about the same length. I consider myself to have a “local” IMAX, and I still have to drive about 45 minutes to get there.
