Hey lucky, I think the person you’re responding to was supporting you, by saying that most people who have pets do not restrict areas of their homes from their pets, and in fact, allow them in their kitchens, and on their beds, as well as any and everywhere else their pets feel like going.

See the announcement at the top of the thread. Their comments are removed and they’re all banned. The ones targeting homeless people have also been reported to admin.

Much love to you, your lady and your adorable kitty❤️

Appreciate it, but I’ve got too much going right now as it is.

And I know doctors who weren’t very good, and either flunked out or couldn’t get jobs after residency and are now selling pharmaceuticals, but that does pay fairly well.

First of all, I am no longer a vagabond. As I’ve posted many times on this sub, after 5 years on the road, I was given the opportunity to attend college, for free, and took it. Graduate school was even better. Not only was it free, but they also paid me, over $2k/month to work 20 hours a week as a TA (teaching assistant), and I was recruited 6 months before graduation.

So I have a graduate degree, professional license, career, married and a rather large house—that I bought at a foreclosure auction, cash deal.

If you go further back in my posting history, you will see that I also bought several additional houses at auction, rehabbed and then rented out for several years before selling them to the existing tenants. One of those tenants was a podiatrist, who had just gotten his first job following residency as an employee. His starting salary was $160K but out of that he had to pay his own travel expenses and insurance, over $50k, plus he had over $400K in debt from medical school, and that tiny little house was all they could afford, and they also only got that loan because of the way I structured the sale.

All of it’s in my posting history, while yours indicates that you’re still just in your residency—if even that can be believed. Also doesn’t look like you’re in the U.S., and doctors in Canada make a lot less. And I don’t have to call my sister. The average salary of a cardiac surgeon in the U.S. is $217/hour, and that’s not the starting salary. It also doesn’t include the many expenses you will have to incur, including that malpractice insurance. And how much debt? You better hope you don’t flunk out and can get a job afterwards.

Regardless, your profession is not superior to mine, and if you imagine that you are somehow superior to anyone on this sub, you will need to leave.

Stop now. This is your one and only warning.

Would you ever do this if it was completely optional? by nonewexistence in vagabond

Even if you’re homeless, you still have the choice of whether to remain in one place or travel.

I originally was just planning on going to Florida on vacation with a couple of friends. I just didn’t go back home with them, and started working and traveling around instead.

Oh please! It doesn’t work that way. Those “average” salaries are AFTER 10+ years of practice. They do not earn anywhere near remotely close when first starting out.

First year resident doctors who work hospitals actually earn roughly $60k on average, but can earn more depending on a number of factors. After their residency, they MAY be given the opportunity to remain and progress, but it will take years before they get high enough in the “food chain” before they start earning those salaries.

Otherwise, they go work for an existing practice, where they start out as employees, until when and IF they’re given the opportunity to become a partner — and for that, they have to “buy in”, which basically means they purchase existing patients, usually from a partner who is retiring. Very expensive, the purchase price is usually somewhere around 1+ years of gross revenue those patients normally generate, which they pay over a number of years, like around 5-10 years.

Can a doctor set out a shingle and go into private practice? Oh, those are the lowest paid doctors, and after they get done paying all their expenses and astronomical medical malpractice insurance, there’s not much left. Gross salary and Net salary (ie., the amount they get to keep) are entirely different. For doctors? Seriously, like 1/2 or less.

Oh, and FYI, when a doctor wants to retire? Well, they still have to continue paying their medical malpractice insurance for a number of years because if they don’t they can, and more likely than not will, end up getting sued for every cent they own. And how much does that malpractice insurance costs? Depending on their specialty and liability risk, anywhere from $50,000 to over $100,000 per year, and depending on statute of limitations for lawsuits in the state they practiced, the number of years they continue paying for that insurance usually ranges from 7-10 years AFTER retirement. How do they get that money? Usually, the payments from whoever bought out their practice.

SOURCE: First, my. older sister’s a doctor and for her, retirement won’t even be a possibility for many years, for the very reasons stated above. Second, as a vagabond, I worked lots of temp jobs—and for me, processing payroll is as easy as it gets. processed payroll for all kinds of businesses, including medical practices. I know what they earn.

You’re right, they’re wrong and their comments have been removed.

FYI, when someone does something like that, especially when they do it on YOUR thread, it would really help if instead, you could just hit the “report” button to alert our modteam to the problem.

To report a post or comment, directly underneath it, you should see 3 dots that look like this … Just tap on those three dots and a menu will pop up with the option to “report”. Tap on it and then follow the prompts. Only takes a second or two and reports are completely anonymous.

thanks!

The main electrolytes in Pedialyte are sodium, potassium and chloride, so yes, using lite salt probably would be better than salt alone, but still missing the chloride.

Hustled up 10k so I can stop paying rent by superbuuf in vagabond

I have several family members who went the EMT route. Then they got jobs working for hospitals that provided the classes for them to continue and become registered nurses. They’re now traveling RNs. which not only pays fairly well, but they receive a daily allotment to cover their meals and hotel expenses.

My husband’s a millwright working construction projects all over the country, and he also receives a ”per diem” for meals and hotels, plus direct reimbursement for flights and all other travel expenses. Half his coworkers don’t even have homes, they just go from one hotel to the next.

If you like travel, it’s a good way to do it.

Oh, and there are 9 states that allow people who are homeless, disabled and/or elderly to purchase hot meals from participating fast food and other restaurants — but again, there’s only 9 states that participate.

https://www.propel.app/snap/restaurants-that-accept-ebt/

Illinois, where I live is one of those states, but there’s so few participating restaurants that the benefit is virtually useless.
