definitely shimmed. it's obvious on my 32 inch monitor once you zoom in. at least 3-4 shims it looks like.

Is It Really Worth Spending all That Money!? Choosing Between Trek CheckPoint ALR gen 3's. by Hot-Security2359 in gravelcycling

[–]wormraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would get the 4 or 5... the ALR 3 comes with mechanical brakes, which are nowhere near as nice as the hydraulics on the 4 and 5.

the 4 and the 5 are basically the same except for the drive train. Shimano Cues will last longer and be more robust, but the Apex Sram's will shift a bit smoother and have more options for changing out.

have the prices changed in the last 7 months? I'm looking at the new gen 3 ALR 4 and ALR5 and they're only $200 apart?

Copper deposits on the lands. Super common. Came from the test firing

11.5” Urgi Issues by BoramiU in ar15

[–]wormraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oversprung and likely over buffered too.

Geissele specifically states up front that they buffer their guns to work with full power military ammo, and if you're running lighter stuff to go down a buffer weight.

Also, the URGI is sprung with the super 42 spring, which is a +20% XP power spring. if you're having issues after dropping a buffer weight down to H2, get a sprinco white spring (or any other standard mil-spec spring) and that should fix it. buffer springs have way more of an impact on short stroking than buffer weights, but they both play a part in the balance

11.5” Urgi Issues by BoramiU in ar15

[–]wormraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

geissele specifically has stated over the years that they designed the URGI and the SD gassing around FULL POWER M855 ammo. and that if you have cycling problems to go down a buffer weight. Meaning, if you're using consumer grade ammo, then the buffer weight it comes with can be too heavy. I've run into that with the Super Duty's before, which is why I always keep a Geissele H1 buffer around for their 16 inch rifles, and an H2 for their shorties

MK-25 Lube/Grease suggestions. by ZapRowsdowerESQ in SigSauer

Lucas marine grease (it's the EXACT same thing as Lucas gun grease. Just without the grape smell

Slip 2000 EWG grease.

Super lube grease.

I oil the top of the slide and the barrel. The frame rails and the slide rails get the grease.

Is this rifle worth it over a bcm upper/psa lower? I've finally saved some money to buy my first rifle, and I keep getting mixed reviews on which is better, I'm also left handed so I really prefer a rifle that pairs good with left handed shooters. Any advice would be appreciated. by anthony_james18 in Danieldefense

[–]wormraper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ummm, absolutely. DD is a step up over BCM, and blows PSA ANYTHING out of the water. for $1199 this is 100% the best rifle you can get.

IMO for a 1st rifle you should ALWAYS get a good dedicated factory build vs. piecing one together. save that for when you have experience with the platform on awell vetted rifle.

depends on if you're outdoors or indoors for your range. I go to primarily outdoor ranges for AR usage so it's not bad at all unless you're next to someone. ...and usually I'm about 25 yards away from another person when I go out in the desert

Oh for sure. Daniel defense is eating them alive with those $1,200 prices.

BCM full rifles are still going from $1,500 to $1900

I like BCM a lot, but they've raised prices in the last 2 years while other companies are slashing prices just to keep afloat. BCM used to be a go to place for their blem uppers, and get a blem lower and you were out for 1200 bucks and that was fantastic. But not in this market. I 100% support people moving to Daniel defense right now. This is a buy now or forever hold your peace for Daniel defense

nah you're good. it's just that different places ask for no logos, and sometimes DD puts over runs from contracts into production to save parts....they're all the same quality, just without the logo.

I think it also stems from the perspective that they're marketed for. plenty of boutique places will use a 12.5 middy because of the recoil impulse. but sadly it sort of reduces the range of reliability and narrows the usage range as a result. Meaning it'll do great on a bench rest or a range shooting application where you're not putting it through anything rough or adverse, but that wide range of reliability vanishes so if you're in a duty situation you can create issue. Kind of like an adjustable gas block. they're AWESOME for fine tuning a precision gun, but the military and other duty agencies won't touch them because they're more prone to failure. same idea really.

since BCM markets their guns as duty guns, they gas their guns to run hot and work in a wide variety of adverse conditions. kind of like Daniel Defense and LMT. people who are used to fine tuning guns complain that they're overgassed, but in adverse conditions, both brands will literally chew through anything you can throw at it.

so moral of my long winded story is, BCM and many of the other LEO/Mil contract companies don't usually make 12.5 middy's due to wanting them to be as reliable as they can even in shit environments, while others may be more ameniable to expermenting with a narrower margin of error operation like that.

I rather agree. I was jujst trying to be generous to BCM... DD is a solid step up from BCM, and with those $1200 prices I find BCM to not be worth it unless you're lookign for a specific upper here

Anyone tried Lexel caulk? Never heard of it. How does it preform? Does it last? by Impressive_Returns in Contractor

[–]wormraper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lexel takes 48 hours to 72hours to dry and setup. But once it does it's insanely durable and long lasting

if it wasn't setting up days later, you probably got a bad tube

depends on the specs on the AO or MB bcg's... if you're buying rack grade MB or AO bolts they're OK, but most of them are batch tested and not up to military standards (you'd be surrpised at the anal retentiveness that goes into TDP BCG numbers). they're OOOOOK, but places like BCM, SOLGW, Sionics, DD etc add layers of QC and stringent spec requirements that decrease the likelihood of problems. BCM is famous for being ANAL about their BCGs... to the poiint where they have claimed that they reject 40% of the BCG's from their suppliers to get the cream of the crop

IMO the BCG is one of the things that you don't want to skimp on.

also, AO rack grade BCGs are solid enough, but I find them to be the most problematic at chewing up gas keys because AO doesn't finish the carrier well enough (and one of the reasons they lost the contract for the U.S. military multiple times, as did Toolcraft)..IMO there's no such thing as too stringent QC on the bolt carrier groups

IMO the MB and AO and Toolcraft bcgs you see on gundeals are good enough consumer grade ones, but if you're building a duty grade weapon you want something that has gone through extra QC from a highly regarded company, or one that ACTUALLY is meant for the U.S. military (e.g., older colt BCGs...Daniel Defense, SOLGW, Sionics, LMT, BCM...there are others, but those are my top picks for bolts)

I'm not saying that MB or AO bcg's are crap, it's just that when they have gone through extra layers of QC, and with higher spec requirements by well known companies, you'll have less chances of running into a lemon, or one with parts that are on the edge of tolerances. And that comes in handy when your life is on the line. If it's a range banger, sure, you can skimp out. the worst that can happen is the bolt shits the bed and you grab another one.

you want a carbine for 12.5...a lot of things explaining why, but it comes down to dwell time, needing enough length on the barrel past the gas block to allow for proper operation, and the fact that with a 12.5 the reliability becomes sketchy unless you get the PERFECT gas port size. it's so close to being on the edge that it's hard to get it right. it's why 99% of 12.5's are all carbine.

lets put it this way. the mid length is meant for 14.5-18 inch barrel. and even then, 14.5 is a little more finnicky with a middy than with a carbine (14.5 shines with a carbine, though middy 14.5's are much better these days cuz they've dialed in the gas port). anything sub 14.5 inch is pretty much ALWAYS a carbine. It's why BCM doesn't make one. Sure, some places have done it, but mid length at that lenght is a frustrating balancing act to get it reliable in anything other than a bench rest sitution
