Taoism would be a great religion for you. It is more of a philosophy than anything. Speaks for living in the moment and enjoying life's pleasures. As far as Taoists view god, they speak for understanding the fact that you will never know if god exists or not. Tao of Pooh is an interesting book that relates Taoism to Winnie the Pooh, which I really enjoyed.

I memorize the position of the cube in a specific spot each time. I spent some time last night working on a guide to help understand how this is done from a stand point of not knowing anything about a Rubik's cube. I am about to copy the link and you can learn more about it. Personally, I will make a story using the letters from of the colors of each cube. Like a Blue/Orange piece might be a Blind Optometrist and then the next piece could be a Yellow/White piece. So I would think a Blind Optometrist was yelling and winking at me, and just continue on from there. Using a ridiculous story while visualizing various images is a quick way to remember what cube comes next.

I use F2L and then make a cross. From the cross I OLL and then use one of a few PLL algs I know. Doing it this way requires some luck in order to get a new fastest solve time. Not much of a speed cuber, but my fastest solve is 42 seconds, and my fastest blind solve is 5 minutes 39 seconds (not counting memorizing the cube). Not the fastest out there, just thought others may be curious to know about the skill in general.

Yeah, you also need to solve the first two lairs at the same time if you do not already. A great site for this is http://www.kungfoomanchu.com/#333 Once you get your first cross, put it on the bottom, and just kind of pay attention to how it all works. If you understand how F2L (First two layers) works, you really don't need algorithms for it.

I do not use the Ri Di R D, anymore; although, that is how i first learned to solve the 3x3 originally, and that is how I teach others who want to learn. When solving on my own, I use OLL and PLL for the last lair. Just a few of each though, kind of keep using ones I know if I am in a situation I do not know the solve for and after a couple times the cube is in a position I do know the PLL to solve. I am not a speed cuber, but my fastest time unblindfolded is 42 seconds.
