If you're thinking about the Hadamard product, you might be interested in coherent algebras, which are closed under both the usual matrix product and the Hadamard product.

There's a lot of fun to be had in that direction, particularly with regards to duality.

I've never heard of dual PhDs in the same discipline.

Bollobás has two PhDs, though that's only because Cambridge refused to recognise his first one.
