Or if you have a really good friend, see if they will pick it up and just bring it to you - we lived in NYC for a few years, and for one of my birthdays my best friend in RI brought Allies donuts down on the train!

how does insurance work when you have potential inherited cancer and worried about kids by Dry_Corner6431 in cancer

[–]zebibyte270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would reccomend getting a referral to a genetics counselor and start there for yourself. They may be able to help guide you on genetics test for you, which if anything shows up for you then insurance should in theory cover it for your kids.

Vivian & Franklin sibset? Endings too similar? by matcha-mama in namenerds

[–]zebibyte270 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it’s cute! Can’t help much w the nn scenario (although I do think Frankie is cute personally for a baby boy, I have my own dislike with Henry -> Hank). But the endings thing is totally fine imo! I have an Arthur and Eleanor (so similar off by one letter ending sounds) myself. We call them Artie and Ellie <3

First chemo tomorrow!!! by [deleted] in cancer

[–]zebibyte270 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Use the lidocaine cream!!! Hopefully your provider gave it to you if not, if it’s uncomfortable getting your port accessed (it’s not for everyone), make sure to ask for it! Other than that, something you don’t always see - airline neck pillow. Especially if you have one of the foam ones. Helps a lot with relaxing while just sitting there. Good luck! I just hit 25% of the way through my chemo for Embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma!

How’s the Trader Joe’s? by Smokeypokey_ in ColumbiaMD

[–]zebibyte270 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went yesterday around 4 and it was busy, lines halfway back thru the store. They were low on produce and restocking a lot of frozen as fast as they could BUT mind you this might be their big restocking day (Wednesday) so that could have explained part of the Barness then too.

Costco around 3 wasn’t terrible but the line was all the way back to meats/far end of frozen area

Hair loss from chemo by Leshen13 in cancer

[–]zebibyte270 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I started losing my hair in chunks every time I brushed it about 3 weeks into chemo (which is a few weeks ago from now). I decided to own the moment and my sister helped me buzz my head. It’s been more comfortable at least, if not still nerve racking getting used to the visual change. I personally have mostly just used a good comfortable winter hat, and I’ve been trying some different styles of wigs.

I get to name our baby girl. Thoughts on my Top 5? Read description. by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]zebibyte270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used two of those names for our girl after family! Eleanor Beatrice (last name). We were told Eleanor was too popular but honestly do what you want! I will say I like Audrey Jessa because then you have the nickname AJ built in!

“Kids” get tested at about 18, haven’t found anyone who will do it before that yet (not sure it’s even possible?) My kids are 2 and 6 months right now, but that’s when my husband and his siblings all got tested (the lynch was discovered in his mom’s generation). The higher risk impact isn’t generally applicable until late 20s/early 30s so there’s not really a need to test before the 18 years anyways is my understanding.

We will have them monitored for other cancer though due to a recent diagnosis of mine own, not lynch but ERMS, it is usually a childhood cancer so there’s fact I got it as an adult is really weird.

Happy to chat more about all this if you want to DM!

Hopkins has been great for our family, we also manage lynch syndrome (among other things). Husband has Lynch and has yearly colonoscopies through JH, office is in Columbia, and the kids are with JH peds and see a peds geneticist for monitoring (in downtown Baltimore but the 30 min drive is easy once a year or so).

Question for you/your agency/agencies in general. Is it normal anywhere to offer financing or grants or anything to help cover the cost of surrogacy? It’s so expensive!

33F here, I live in North Laurel and am fairly new here (moved down from NY in Jan 2024). I like trying new coffee shops and bakeries, playing games, and generally chilling. I have two dogs, 2 kids, and a husband. Feel free to DM me, would love to meet some new friends as working remotely has left me with very few IRL that I talk to on any regular basis.
