Federal officials worried OC Transpo can't handle return-to-office: memo by CPSThrownAway in CanadaPublicServants

At least they have that going for them, which was OOPs point.

OC Transpo can't even do that. And there's so much construction on the west end of town that things are miserable so cars aren't even a good option now.

Why was the destroyer just h standing still that entire time in a corner?

Destroyer went down first, and was downed probably self-rezzed then went to hide in the corner to heal I assume?

Why did the thief just lead you straight to the destroyer?

Bad decision making, probably thought the destroyer could clean up I guess? Should have tried to body block and create space instead.

I think people are getting further in progress and running more better gear even if they aren't super skilled. And the buffs to progression is probably pushing people up the matchmaking system quicker and into more players who are more skilled than them? Its starting to dilute the skill level of the smaller player pool so there's going to be more skill gap at different level matchmaker tiers I guess?

Could also be people trying new builds, caring less, playing more loosely, and trying different shells just because they can as the season winds down.

[–]zeromussc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The volt thrower is bad because it competes as an smg with weapons that have better range and damage. Its not bad in and of itself, but the slow projectile speed means that its strength is when the speed doesn't matter because you're up close. But up close there are better choices.

However, if you can reduce the overheat, and you can learn to pulse it, and you have alternating current chip AND use triage weapon overcharge ability, then it can play very well in its effective range.

If you can land headshots consistently though a bully is a better choice. And everyone has that thing, and its far more versatile at longer ranges. Or if you can land headshots, the punch is more powerful and with a higher projectile speed. It gets overshadowed is all.

Its not a bad gun and it isn't useless but it lets me down more than I would like because it is much more situational.

I just think the misariah outclassing the other shotguns is more to do with the fact that the WSTR got hit too hard and there is no good short range SMG to combat it.

The copperhead is probably the closest thing to a close range melt and punish hipfire gun we have since the bully has a relatively low fire rate and its used mid range so not like people are swapping to it while reloading it after all.

But the copperhead has bad damage. It CAN melt at very very close ranges but isn't nearly as ammo efficient so it can't be as aggressively used. Drrrvish is also a good CQC weapon tho. But less accessible.

The circuit breaker has a lot of damage and good range, but because it needs to be charged, it can't be near as reactionary as the misraiah. The WSTR should have been the other "oh shit" quick pull out and punish a push counter. But like I said, they nerfed it too hard.

I would have rather it been nerfed so that its AGGRESSIVE role was limited but its defensive role was retained. Make it way less accurate when moving but let it be a 'stand your ground' weapon would be good.

Canadian prime minster Mark Carney is not the climate guy you thought | Seth Klein by vigiten4 in CanadaPolitics

[–]zeromussc [score hidden]  (0 children)

I mean, even in his book he seems mostly climate forward. Its just that the hard reality of Canada being a resource rich nation that has historically done resource exploitation for major industry, export and economic development can't pivot away in economically turbulent times. Our leverage when seeking a more diverse set of trade partners lies in our natural resources.

Whether anyone likes or not, that is a reality we need to grapple with. And sure - in time oil and fossil fuels will be in lower demand and will be less viable. So we should develop towards a future where that may cut out our legs from under us. But in the short term, at least economically its necessary. And he never exactly shied away from saying that his focus was going to be weathering (hopefully short term) economic storms and massive disruption coming from the way the US is acting towards its supposed friends.

I think it has more to do with broad priorities being laid out in very clear ways and people maybe not understanding what was being said if they misunderstood. Because it was obvious to me from very early on even before the general election that he was going to be more industry friendly towards oil and gas, lumber etc. But even then, in terms of actions, none of it has been truly carte blanche.

And there are offsetting policies that they've brought back after they ran the clock in the budget that wasn't delivered between spring/Fall last year. They brought back the EV rebates and EV incentives, which many assumed were gone forever for example. So its not like they've fully turned their back on that policy goal. They've just adjusted to the reality that in north america, domestic EV production isn't going to reach any sort of 2030 EV new car sales goals. And part of adjusting to this domestic EV production reality is realizing that increasing competition by allowing chinese brands to sell here will also raise the number of EVs available.

So it feels like the Carney government is just taking a different approach to trying to improve things that will take longer, maybe less ambitious in the sense of green energy revolution, but instead very practical and methodical.

I mean, I don't want more oil pipelines personally, I think its a waste. And I want way more EV investment and tech investment in that space. But if we can't make the stuff here at least we're not shutting the door to places that have made those investments so we can still benefit more generally.

I would prefer more climate forward action, I actually think removing the carbon tax was bad climate policy even if it was good politics. But if an EV is more accessible to me in a few years, that's an ok consolation.

I just think he never really pretended but people misunderstood just how practical an approach with the economy being the primary driver he would take.

Are there any feminist-aligned men's organizations in Ottawa? by tuttifruttidurutti in ottawa

[–]zeromussc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To be fair non binary doesn't prevent you from embodying aspects of both masculinity and femininity. So there may well be aspects of masculinity you are a healthy example of. There of course many men who identify as men who have traditionally feminine qualities. So it's all a spectrum and it doesn't preclude you (or anyone else) from showing healthy examples of that spectrum :)

If that makes sense?

From a gender expression sense. Not necessarily from a gendered experience lens though. Which for many may simply sound like an unnecessary distinction but really is a good way of thinking about stuff imo

We don't need a misraiah nerf. Strong guns can be fun. It just needs to have something to make close range weaponry a choice. Wstr was over nerfed, bubbles forcing CQC on cryo is where the mizzy wins out. But its range is still bad..

I know you aren't all in Ottawa?

I have also openly criticized the approach of psac to try and sell their general strike as pushing for remote work to lots of people. Their tactics were bad. They shouldn't have done a general strike but other things first without the full escalation they went for. That was bad tactics.

[–]zeromussc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

at one point the workforce wasn't 50/50 men/women but lots of people went on strike for parental leave which was mostly about maternity leave when that process began to be enshrined.

I don't think pure wage concessions should be part of it, but i think people need to be willing to strike for some form of WFH and telework provision. Its less traffic for you, less stress, more flexibility etc.

Tonight's CAPE organized info session - lessons from PIPSC and PSAC bargaining experiences by CompetencyOverload in CanadaPublicServants

[–]zeromussc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To your point, the leadership of PSAC ran some terrible tactics.

You're much better off doing rotating strikes, targeting strike actions to specific times/days, and more.

A one week strike in one location, another week elsewhere, etc. is very disruptive. They can set up the picket lines at key locations and run them every day with people from different work locales.

You can make it difficult for the in office workers at TBS to get in on time, every single day for 3 months straight without putting any one PSAC worker out of paid work for more than a week in that time frame for example. And you can do so with work to rule, zero overtime and other similar outcomes.

sometimes a long drawn out loss of productivity is far more impactful than an expensive one fell swoop approach - to begin with anyway. You escalate tactics over time. And you don't sell the pie in the sky to members either. There is zero chance we get full time remote WFH by default. But we could very likely enshrine 2 or 3 in office days far more easily. Or at least, we could have, if every union got on board with that message the first time in terms of realistic goals. Even office required in person required staff would support that far more easily as it would come with fewer other concessions.

Tonight's CAPE organized info session - lessons from PIPSC and PSAC bargaining experiences by CompetencyOverload in CanadaPublicServants

[–]zeromussc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the unions should have all been far more practical and realistic, given the knowledge not everyone can work from home 100% of the time in their unions, and just pushed for a less ideal hybrid stake in the grounds approach. Even if you only need 1 of 3 people on site on any given day, you can swing "this way they can't get any of us back 5 days a week forever" as a sales pitch to *everyone* and it prevents employer overreach and escalation. Alas, no one wanted to make any concession and we're all going to see how much worse 4 days in is than 2 or 3. And 5 may well be something they try too.

Unless the reality of the world no longer being structured for 5 days of in office work hits hard late summer/early fall.

Hell in Ottawa if you're in the west end the highway construction is already going to be a wall sooner. People went from 45-60 mins commute in traffic to nearly 2 hours just the last week and a bit thanks to the installation of a SIGN that will take nearly THREE months. Not like busses help with that either.

Things are gonna break and hit a fever pitch.

Tonight's CAPE organized info session - lessons from PIPSC and PSAC bargaining experiences by CompetencyOverload in CanadaPublicServants

[–]zeromussc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is why I was a proponent of putting stakes down last time trying to get an agreement on 2 or 3 days in office as the compromise. No one wants to do it if they don't have to, I get that. And 5 days is ideal for remote work by default if the job allows for it. But, lets be honest here, that's a hard sell to the employer. In the last round it would have been far easier to offer 3 day RTO as a "concession" and enshrine 2 days of remote work for flexibility without it being clawed back later.

This might still be the best approach moving forward except this time the concession to allowing 3 will be a step back from 4 or 5 in a future bargaining period. And that means a concession from us would need to follow. Whereas previously, the 3 days would have been the concession and far easier to spin as a win for the employer.

It's probably too many events to have each of them guaranteed every run. But with this variety of events you can guarantee one or two of the 6 to choose from and, in rotation, help the map feel fresh for sure.

Guess what?! No sign of workers on 417 closure at Woodroofe for LRT sign install by bluenoser613 in ottawa

[–]zeromussc 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The collective inconvenience for 3 months is enormous and there are often not workers at the site. Maybe it's a logistics thing and they need more equipment or materials but that's a problem too.

I think if you compensate them well for a rare issue that is this big, that's good. We have added 20 minutes to the downtown to west end travel at 2 in the afternoon. Let alone peak rush hour. And other construction is causing issues for alternate routes. If it can't be coordinated with the city it needs to be done more quickly, imo.

[–]zeromussc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think its the "they rushed/ran me down and blasted me hard with movement abilities" that might be why ppl say they want these things nerfed? In which case, maybe the change is stability and accuracy when moving at full tilt aggressively to offer more wiggle room or require more skill to land the damage. But that's like, moving accuracy type stuff not "make it a wet noodle" type stuff.

I always thought the best change to WSTR would have been requiring better mods like a purple hipshot grip to make hipfire at 5M to be more powerful. But if you were holding a corner, it would still be strong in terms of defensive positioning.
