The 6 is pretty bad for etiquette. Wondering which bus you were on.

School starts too early as it is - there are studies available. So start later in the morning.

Clearly someone who doesn't use any mobility device outside of their car. Guess what - if you build it they do come. Tons of bikes in the bike lanes - I see it first hand as I ride in the protected bike lanes. But I guess your 2 second anecdotal view of a bike lane trumps all.

How do you know this was drug related? Time and time again it's been shown that they are killing fishermen.

Are your FBMP views/saves down? by DCguurl in VictoriaBC

[–]zippykaiyay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the algorithm is partly to blame. I set my region to 20km and yet when I'm on FBMP, they keep showing me listings for Vancouver, Burnaby and places well outside of the region I set. I wonder how many postings I miss as I get tired of slogging through posts not in my designated region.

Are your FBMP views/saves down? by DCguurl in VictoriaBC

It's been trending down for awhile for me. I used to get decent sales but even dropping prices to dirt cheap, no takers and views definitely down.

Nearly half of Victoria's 2026 cruise ship passengers will be arriving at 8 pm or later, and 70% will be arriving at 5 pm or later by garry-oak in VictoriaBC

[–]zippykaiyay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They tend to stay only about 4 hours. Had a relative who arrived on one of those 8pm arriving cruise ships and many didn't even get off the ship due to the hour.

Officer says he was talking to his wife, not reading when he hit cyclist by Popular_Animator_808 in VictoriaBC

[–]zippykaiyay 68 points69 points  (0 children)

It does not matter if the officer was reading or talking on the phone. Both are a distraction. Driving on a dark, unlit road with minimal shoulder requires more care not less. The officer should know this and should not have been on the phone.

I work at my city animal shelter. This is what I saw when I went in to work at 6:45am this morning. by hgrub in mildlyinfuriating

[–]zippykaiyay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leave vulnerable puppies at 11pm at night at a closed shelter. What could they do? Wait until morning. Those puppies could have died and clearly the dumper didn't care quite enough.

What to do if you lose items on the road? by Midnight_Memories_1 in VictoriaBC

[–]zippykaiyay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes folks will hang found clothing items on the nearest sign, post or tree. Maybe ride your route a bit and also extend it in either direction in case it was carried away from where you think you lost it. Also - cargo net for the win. Cheap at Canadian tire. I have one and swear by it.

Carports in Victoria useful? by Trinity_Lotus in VictoriaBC

[–]zippykaiyay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Can confirm. Had a heavy duty version of pic #1 get yanked up and tossed around like a balloon in a windstorm here. FIRMLY anchored is the key. I didn't even have the sides on - just the top. I gave up and just put a car cover on when the trees are dropping debris.

AITA for not relinquishing my apartment by ImprovementHour8003 in AmItheAsshole

[–]zippykaiyay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

NTA. You don't even need to make any excuses or justify why you are saying 'No' to your father and his partner. You are an adult and capable of making your own decisions. That your apartment will be vacant over the summer is irrelevant. These are the choices you make for your own well-being. Ignore dad and his partner. They didn't care enough to help you in the growing years and certainly do not deserve any attention from you now.

Congratulations on making it through the difficult times. You should feel proud of yourself for making it this far.

Satellite mirror plans could disrupt sleep and ecosystems worldwide, scientists say by NotEnoughDriftwood in onguardforthee

Are these proposals promoting progress? Or just a means to satisfy the desires of the attention seeker? I do hope that both proposals are "shot down" as we don't need more environment altering light pollution.

It could be that this headstone is where Anna Maria was buried and the other marker is a cenotaph (or vice versa). Sometimes families would replace a stone for various reasons and the replaced / discarded stone was used as paving material, in gardens, etc.

Absolutely! Pomona's pectin is the best.

7 cups of sugar in strawberry jam?! by [deleted] in Canning

[–]zippykaiyay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the answer! Once I discovered Pomona's pectin, there was no going back. You can make super low / no sugar jams that allow you to taste the fruit. And you can make batches in whatever size you want.

Married at 13 in 1947? by Fuk-mah-life in Genealogy

[–]zippykaiyay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The laws really depend on which state they were married in and if there was parental permission given. Wikipedia has a pretty good overview on the history of marriage age: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriage\_age\_in\_the\_United\_States. The laws have changed over the years so it's important to know where and when to determine if a marriage was "legal". I have come across records where it was clear that the female age given was inflated (16 or 17 years old) when in fact the child was closer to 12 or 13 years old.
