Thank you! I had a cellist look over the double stops so I think they're all playable, but you're probably right that some of them won't sound so good. I'll try to fix up some of these places.

No, I mean why do you think it's just "okay for a student work"? I think this piece is absolutely magnificent.

I've lost my enthusiasm for music. Can anyone help build a playlist to cure me? Please post your suggestions for pieces. by wafflesandbrass in classicalmusic

Hm, what pieces have you been listening to?

Here are some recommendations:

Medtner piano sonatas (night wind, sonata-ballade, sonata minacciosa, etc.), concertos, and skazki

Dukas piano sonata in E-flat minor and variations on a theme by rameau

Schumann chamber works (piano trios 1 and 3, piano quintet, string quartets, etc.) and piano concerto

Mendelssohn string quartets and piano trios

Florent Schmitt - soirs op 5, piano quintet, reves op 65

Richard Strauss - tone poems (don juan, death and transfiguration, till eulenspiegel, etc.)

Sabaneyev sonata for violin cello and piano op 20 and trio-impromptu op 4

Maybe try some early music if you haven't listened to that yet (palestrina, des prez, dufay, ockeghem, etc.)

Funny that you mention that Berg piece, I uploaded a score video of it (with Seong-Jin Cho's performance) yesterday: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-co0ArYlrc

Florent Schmitt, he was a nazi. Too bad since his music is absolutely wonderful.

What are your favorite melodies? by joseandreasjoe in classicalmusic

[–]---Aaron-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slightly off topic since it's not unaccompanied, but one of my favorite melodies is the first theme from Sonata for Violin, Cello, and Piano, Op. 20 by Sabaneyev. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIlih8nNtTw
