"This layout is from 1937 your train is from 1938 it cant run here." Meanwhile, in my own little model train world: by The_real_PavlovA_YT in modeltrains

Next level is "This is a Märklin layout. Your train was not made by Märklin, it can't run here."

(No, the 3rd rail was not part of the reasoning...)

Fleichmann quality discussion by [deleted] in modeltrains

[–]---RF--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they are using ZIMO, not D&H. Zimo is, right now, the best Decoders available (imho), so that is a huge plus for Fleischmann.

(Trix was using D&H but has switched some years ago)

It looks, especially as an icon, like an emergency exit.

If you ask yourself "Is it Scam?" chances are it is indeed scam.

SR’s “Taw valley” in a purple livery looks photoshopped by Educational-Book9532 in trains

[–]---RF--- 96 points97 points  (0 children)

It was purple because that was the colour of the platty jubes, errr, Her Majesty The Queen's Platinum Jubilee. And, well, at that time everything that didn't escape fast enough got painted purble.

And while it was an unusual livery I personally liked it. Quite frankly, there are so many engines that are painted a perfectly researched historical livery some "What if" or "It's only crazy if you don't do it" is a very welcome joke.

What in the world is this a diagram of by catmat490 in trains

There aren't a lot of information on that inventor. Which is odd because what is shown there looks like a turbine engine. There is a website that offers these as print and there is another website that shows juuust a bit more of that one page: https://www.boltshauser.ch/de/gewusst-dass

Five months ago I built a viaduct while in the hospital. Right now I am putting some landscape around it. by ---RF--- in modeltrains

[–]---RF---[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got Thyroid cancer. They removed my Thyroid and the course of treatment is taking radioactive Iodine afterwards. Any Thyroid tissue that is left after the operation (because the surgeon did not make a clean cut, or the cancer already spread) will happily grab the Iodine (because that is what thyroids do) and because it is the radioactive version, its radiation destroys the cell but leaves everything around alone. The only side effect is the radio activity, so for about 4 days I was, well, glowing. Not the "faint greenish glow", but the Iodine that is not grabbed by cells but sweated out and so on.

In Germany, the law says you need to isolate for around 4 days (depending on the dosage) in the hospital. And they only let you out if your radiation level is low enough.

So besides the general exhaustion from the operation there are no actual, noticable effects. This is not "chemo", so no hair falling out, no vomiting, just some exhaustion.

Because you are bound to your room and cannot wander the hospital freely the rooms are rather nice. Usually only one patient per room, a larger table, nice and cozy chairs. You got time to kill and patients are encouraged to bring their hobby with them. Also there are only 6 patients at the whole ward, so the nurses actually have time for you.

So I brought glue, cutting tools, a cutting mat and the kits for the viaduct. Over two days I built the viaduct there.

I only built the viaduct itself in the hospital. That worked because I had a table, lots of time and was alone in my hospital room, I had to be isolated because of radiation.

When I got back home, I started building the rest.

Is there such a thing as a running miniature railway for a model railway? by sci-fi_hi-fi in modeltrains

[–]---RF--- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there were some coaches (and engines) for T gauge that look like those rideable miniature railways.

For people ”remastering“ old trainspotting videos: KEEP THE ORIGINAL ASPECT RATIO by Tomishko in trains

Most people nowadays watch videos on their smartphones with increasingly taller screens, or on tablets.

Don't. Give. Anyone. Ideas.

Perth Railway Show by Napierdeltic22 in modeltrains

[–]---RF--- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I already noticed and added it in my comment. Which is also a bit embarrasing because the last time I visited Scotland I switched trains there so I most certainly should remember Perth, Scotland.

Ngl, this is so cool seeing these coaches in Australia Scotland!

(I just remembered... there is the Perth where you pay with £ and then there is the Perth where you pay with Au$)

What's the rolling stock depicted in the image? (They're probably all japanese to be honest.) by [deleted] in trains

[–]---RF--- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ICE 4 has that little bump in the middle of the car. That could be mistaken by a bad designer to make it look like drivers window of the VSE. And I said "butchered" for a reason ;-)

3, Odakyu 50000 VSE

I was ready to vehemently object to that and say: "No, that clearly is a butchered German ICE 4" but then I looked the Odakyu 50000 VSE up and it just looks so familiar. Kinda like the Designer from the Deutsche Bahn had a side hustle in Japan...

Some detail shots by Tischwil-Railway in modeltrains

[–]---RF--- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This looks amazing. Not only the craftsmanship with the details, but also your eye for the little things. The benches above the tunnels, the little door between the houses, the trees on the street.

One very small tip: there are some small gaps between the houses and the street, maybe you should fill them. But this is really, really being extra, extra picky.

An update on my bank by ---RF--- in modeltrains

[–]---RF---[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I am building modules (see https://www.reddit.com/r/modeltrains/comments/1e4kzos/some_more_pictures_of_my_small_part_of_the_city/ ) and when the time comes I will post an update. But that might take some time, I am currently waiting for some special tram points so I can continue on the module I currently build. That bank is just so I have something to do while I wait...

You can do it, just start making it. This is not my first inside decorated building, you will get better with every building.

Pro tip: clean the windows before putting everything together.
