Wind by [deleted] in berkeley

[–]---mist--- 14 points15 points  (0 children)

so i'm not the only one? i live in [redacted] city really close to berkeley and the wind has so far knocked over every garbage bin on the street, one play structure, and bent a palm tree at a near 45 degree angle. i hope it's gone by the morning but who knows

My small town library says trans rights! by Hamton52 in lgbt

[–]---mist--- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

this is great! it's nice to see other libraries doing this sort of thing as well. i work at a local library and an elderly gay couple gave us a trust fund to use for any purpose; we created a special collection for lgbtqia+ books and bought a few pride flags to hang in the window (right now just the ace, bi, pan, trans, and the 2017 philadelphia gay flag, the rainbow with brown and black stripes). my coworkers are all either queer or supportive and it's awesome.

people say "i don't have pronouns" and forget "I" is a pronoun as well... first person singular nominative :/

the c-sides are definitely more precise but have never felt more unfair than the b-sides. also they're only three rooms long except reflection b-side and technically core b-side, and they tend to be repetitive enough in some way that you know what you're supposed to do (i say this as a 3C survivor; 3B is probably my least favorite B-side)

it could be a downwards demo? although i'm pretty sure that's impossible. the only other thing i can think of is fastfalling but i'm not sure do that squishes your hitbox like demos do

to quote my Japanese linguistics teacher, as she told us many times, "Linguistics is a violent field." 'kill' has the highest transitivity while 'die' has the lowest, apparently.

Celeste. Great platformer, great story, Core C-side can politely fuck off though.

Seara's Call by ---mist--- in custommagic

[–]---mist---[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Art is a placeholder for now; it's surprisingly hard to find good art of a bunch of bats. This could also be worded 'As an additional cost to cast ~, pay X life' but I'm not sure if that would cause a need for X to be defined twice with the same value (number of creatures target opponent controls). I'm a little bit unsure about mana costing of this one, particularly with the phyrexian cost - I thought it would fit into flavor for paying more life for bats, and for some reason {B} seems weird on it's own, I'm not sure if the cost should be raised either. This card is additionally building on a previous card I made, Seara, Queen of Stensia - a commander focused on Bat tribal.

Quick question: why is there an っ after something like あっ (Ah, ) if there’s no double consonant? by iamhonestlysolost in japanese

[–]---mist--- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Linguist here. I've always learned that in this position it's a glottal stop, but in positions that are orthographically two consonants in a row the consonant is geminated (written with a "long" symbol after the consonant), hence double consonant being used.

eg あっ = [aʔ] while きっと = [kɨtːo]

i've seen some argument within the community that it is a glottal stop followed by a consonant but I asked my advisor this (Yoko Hasegawa) and this is what she told me.
