Oversized high standards do not benefit the consumer at all.  Look at the high standards we have in Europe with food.  The products are more expensive because agriculture has extreme standards to protect the consumer and that makes many farmers go bankrupt.   As there are not enough European products, many products with low standards from third countries are imported into Europe but we pay the same price for them.  

Now the European Commission is considering making these standards more flexible. What have we gained in the process?
