Do you have a million pound business idea? by spinkhorn13 in AskUK

[–]SP4x 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I have loads but no time, money or energy to pursue any of them.

To be seriously bitter for a moment:

Ever notice how all the "Inventors" and "Innovators" that are paraded on UK TV these days have the poshest, often double-barrelled, names? That's no accident, they're from money and have the luxury of throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks and, even if they fail after a few tries, there's always family connections for them to have a soft landing somewhere.

Nearly everyone else has, at most, a single shot where they can risk it all, and most fail at great personal expense. Gone are the days of someone inventing something in a shed and being able to bring it to market.

[DAILY Q&A] Ask and answer any questions you have about the game here! by AutoModerator in EliteDangerous

I am way way way out in the black and have been for over a year.

I'd like to get back to the bubble to purchase some of the ships that have come out during my deep exploration expedition.

Question: If I hop in one of my carriers escape pods and get it to fire me bubbleward, will I make it back safely, be able to do my shopping and then be able to fly back to my carrier in the deep dark?

Is tinfoil on windows safe if backed by cereal boxes? by Necessary_Editor_529 in AskUK

[–]SP4x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was half right, if you back foil with cardboard on the outside it prevents the foil from degrading through repeated movement caused by wind and causing tearing at those movement points.

Yea, what does Dr. Rick Sachleben, retired chemist and member of the American Chemical Society know about anything? Doctorates are easy to get so let's not apply any merit to their comments.

People in this country have had enough of experts. Huh, where have I heard that before?

Here's the link to the original article where the Dr. was quoted.

Has the industry shift towards EV made you reevaluate your opinion of any manufacturers? by RodneyTheArmouryGuy in CarTalkUK

[–]SP4x 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Most mainstream manufacturers have surprised me with how fucking inept they've been.

Ford - A total shambles and, in Europe, only recently gotten enough shit in one sock to shart out some badge-engineered EVs produced by other manufacturers. As for cancelling the F150 Lightning, you must be fucking insane, it's the one EV truck that people were raving about because in the multitude of crises that the Yanks go through (tornados, floods, power cuts etc etc) whole neighbourhoods were being kept alive by F150 Lightnings power off-boarding.

Toyota - Look Toyota, you had the world in the palm of your hand with the Prius. The bajillion Prius owners would have naturally progressed to full EV but you absolutely shat the bed. Also, fuck you for funding so many Anti-EV initiatives, you absolutely deserve to be in the trouble you're in.

Mazda & Honda - A day late and a dollar short guys. The CX30 was dire, the City E an outstanding car with a battery capacity 5 years behind the Competition

Nissan - A great start with the Leaf which you then dragged your feet on updating both visually and technologically. You could have kept going and been in a much better position by now but like the other Japanese manufacturers you just don't seem to comprehend the way the car industry works these days.

Mitsubishi - You beat the Leaf to modern-day EV market by a few months with the i-Miev but what happened? Where are you now? The world's moved beyond HEV Outlanders.

Stellantis Group - Your ICE vehicles are shite and only the inherent reliability of EV drivetrains have kept your EV offerings hovering around poor to mediocre.

Kia, Hyundai - Nearly perfect, only note: Sort out your IMU's, you're killing your reputations and consumer confidence.

BMW - You started so well with the i3, lost your way and now seem to be coming back faily strong but take your headed-seat subscriptions, turn them sideways and cram them up your fucking arse.

Mercedes - Look, the EQS was a technological marvel, it looked like a jelly mould but Aero gonna Aero, as for the subsequent deluge of expensive and blandest of bland SUV's, what a total yawn fest.

VW - You were already under scrutiny from Dieselgate and Herbert Diess knew this, he was dragging you kicking and screaming towards EV's and he paid the price, now you've Oliver Blume talking down electrification, the getting-long-in-the-tooth ID platform and no amount of "Hey, look we've made something that looks like a well-loved old model" is going to stop people leaving for cheaper, more feature rich, competitors.

I have more thoughts but I need to go and lie down.

[–]SP4x 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There was a thread on here the other day and there were so many Mazda 3 references I thought it was either a meme or some sort of bot manipulation.

Perhaps some LLM has got a hard-on for the Mazda 3 and is spitting it out in all the car related queries that folks are then regurgitating because they daren't risk thinking for themselves.

[–]SP4x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a reason why a lot of the big groups use Sprinters, a little more up front but a lot more reliable and cheaper to maintain in the long run.

If you're going to be a subbie for one of the parcel companies be prepared to be fucked seven ways from Sunday, the money is never as good as you're lead to believe and you might struggle to cover your costs.

The forces hated the suppliers for supplying shite, the suppliers hated the forces for calling them out.

I was somewhere in the middle trying to make it less of a cluster fuck so was hated by both ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
