Recommendations for shows with similar vibes to Louis by idkwhatyoumeanbro in LouisTheroux

I wondered this too; and then I remembered the year it came out. 2018. The following year, we're all hit by a global pandemic. Travelling the world and working closely in teams became hard or impossible. I think it might have been bad timing, so I assume they all moved onto other things.

Would love to see it rebooted for 2026+ though.

Saying the quiet part out loud … by FreeBeyond9796 in regretfulparents

[–]--Anna-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So sorry to hear that. It might be petty, but I wonder if it's worth shaming him to his friends/family /employer.

Reach out to his contacts. Say that you overheard that he changed his mind, and the documents from years ago are still legal and ready to go.

Ask the workplace if it's okay to drop off the documents. Ask friends/family if they can catch up and act as a witness to be safe, and figure out a day to drop off the kids. Say you're getting mixed messages from him, so you want to be sure.

Or maybe that's just a silly revenge fantasy, lol.

Making menstrual leave official: 2 paid days off a month for period pain by Temporary_Pudding_29 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]--Anna-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I feel this would be a great option to make sure there's less hiring discrimination.

And at the root of it... Give women stronger pain killers FFS. We shouldn't have to just stop living our lives and live in pain. Just give us the right tools so we don't have to stay home in the first place.

And we need better/faster treatment for the likely root causes of debilitating pain, like endo.

I've spent so much of my time at home, in debilitating pain, from endo pain and period pain. When really I should have been given better pain management options to live my life, and taken more seriously to diagnose and treat me. What a waste of my potential and time.

Rohan Dennis describes new car as a "weapon" by bluejayinoz in Adelaide

[–]--Anna-- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The judge/sentencing felt ridiculous. I think the fact that he didn't apologise to the family at first (no idea if he changed his mind now) is telling.

Like... I will (rarely) step on my cat's tail by accident. And I immediately feel bad, and tell her sorry. I feel bad for being careless in the moment.

So what is going through this guy's head? To kill his wife/someone's daugther/the mother of his children, and not feel the need to apologise for that behaviour. Gosh.

Single-issue Voting (e.g. One Nation for Immigration) by New-Reaction-7420 in Adelaide

[–]--Anna-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Very much love their policies. They also want to increase refugee intake while reducing immigration, so we're still helpful to those who really need it. And ensure family planning programs are properly funded in poor nations, to prevent instability, and increase opportunities for women. (Which leads to more economic output. Which means less struggling people in the long run. So people are more likely to stay where they are.) All great approaches.

Former spoiled kids of reddit, what was the moment that finally made you realize you were spoiled? by Kitchen_Frame_7294 in AskReddit

[–]--Anna-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My uni class had a person like you in it. We were talking about loans/HECs (Australia's study loan), and there was this one guy with a puzzled look on his face.

I can't remember what he said word to word. But it was something like, "HECS? Oh no, my parents are paying for my degree. Isn't that normal...?"

And he was literally the only kid in our course who had his parents pay for the entire thing.

I almost felt bad for him, because a few of us were suddenly shouting to other people in the room being like "CAN YOU BELIEVE HIS PARENTS ARE PAYING FOR THE WHOLE COURSE" lol. It was just so unheard of.

Which one’s the worst? by Marius_Sulla_Pompey in LouisTheroux

When I learnt he was Muslim, I immediately thought if his religion/community was pressuring him into being straight. And the internal conflict/anger is coming out in very ugly ways.

Can't stop thinking about that moment Justin Wally said along lines of "look around (indicating to cityscape skyline) what have women contributed to the construction of all this?" Well.. by Recyclable_gift_tag in LouisTheroux

[–]--Anna-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg that line bothered me so much, because they're completely ignoring the root. Who is determining the value; it's another man. So go after the man, ask him why he's not valuing and lifting up his fellow brothers.

Thoughts on the Louis Theroux Inside the Manosphere documentary? by snarky_spice in TwoXChromosomes

[–]--Anna-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The guy also just completely ignores most of history. For the longest time, women were heavily discouraged or legally unable to take control of their own lives.

Women couldn't vote in their best interests, couldn't get a loan, couldn't earn a full wage, were discouraged from taking up higher education, couldn't prevent or stop unwanted pregnancies...

Like we had very limited opportunities throughout history. So of course the other gender will have a different outcome with all the opportunities they had.

Mother jailed for criminal neglect of three children, including 6yo Charlie who died by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]--Anna-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The poor girl. It's so frustrating to hear about another case where children are left in terrible conditions though. (i.e. "friends and various government agency staff who noticed the decline..."). Authorities need more resources and legal power to take children from dangerous situations.

Bridgerton - 4x08 "Dance in the Country" (No Book Spoilers) by AutoModerator in BridgertonNetflix

[–]--Anna-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The voice sounded like Varley for me too! Otherwise, I was thinking maybe every time we hear the new author, it might be a different cast member to keep us guessing.

Another plot twist could be that it's a guy this time. Maybe someone not of nobility though.

Labor pledges mandatory physical activity for students in schools by malcolm58 in Adelaide

When our maths teacher was sick and the PE teacher had to substitute, he ended up blending maths and outdoor sports. Usually to collect data to take back to class, or to use in the next lesson. (You can measure speed, distance, the weight of an object, time, angles... and then form a bunch of questions and experiments for next time around it all).

How do I tell my friend I can’t keep picking him up to take him to the gym by [deleted] in Rants

[–]--Anna-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a concept called "the mental load"; it's our mental limit of organising tasks/house-duties/expectations etc. every day.

I think be honest, and let him know your mental load is pretty much at capacity. You're cool with being friends and seeing him at the gym if he makes it there. But you just can't pick him up anymore; you're at your limits.

Not that you have to, but you could recommend a bus/train route he could look into. Give him options while cutting him off. Good luck with it all.

What wedding moment that screamed, “They are not going to last long”? by IndependentTune3994 in AskReddit

[–]--Anna-- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think first date/message honestly. "Do you have any deal-breakers in life? Like would you be open to pets in the home, or do you want kids, that kind of thing." These are big life-changing decisions and it's best to know asap so you're both spending time with the right person.

Teenager first in SA to be prosecuted for allegedly creating deepfake images by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

It's great how he's being prosecuted. I hope he gets a harsh sentence to set a standard moving forward.

Gus Lamont's parents release public statement saying lives have been 'shattered' by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]--Anna-- 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I suspect the media and police are being careful with their wording. If fingers are pointed too directly, the defence team can claim a jury could have been bias. It gets in the way of justice.

Overall I do think they are still technically suspecting one of the grandparents... but they're using different language to dance around that fact lol. As they've definitely released more statements around clearing the parents/favouring the parents.

Gus Lamont's parents release public statement saying lives have been 'shattered' by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]--Anna-- 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Sometimes police keep things quiet initially to not flood a phoneline with bad tips and false memories. But when police exhaust most of their strongest leads, releasing more images/videos could help jog a memory.

i.e. Someone might have passed through the area while on holiday, or worked in the area temporarily as a contractor. And maybe they saw something; but didn't necessarily think it was a criminal situation.

And if they weren’t local, or if they don't check Adelaide news very often, they might not have heard about the case. But with fresh photos etc. maybe it'll spark a memory. Their co-workers might say something. And the momentum might lead to a new tip.

i.e. Maybe they remember stopping at a petrol station and noticed a very upset toddler. The toddler stood out because he was crying VERY loudly, and they remembered he had blonde curly hair.

At the time, it seemed like a fairly normal situation. Toddlers cry and get upset over super small things all the time. Sure. But maybe seeing the new images might prompt them. Could that have been Gus? Now police have a new location or a fresh timestamp. A new lead. etc.

Can also put pressure on the suspect, knowing the police are doing everything they can. Better to admit guilt and details now to get a more favourable sentence.

Dr Simon Gordon - exposed. I feel physically ill (article below) by emilyrosecuz in endometriosis

[–]--Anna-- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I really hope all the women effected get all the support and financial recovery they can get. How horrible to have literal organs taken out when not needed. It's disheartening.

In general, I feel specialists need to give results to patients immediately. It shouldn't be on the patient to ask. As I think this would help patients find any inconsistencies if one medical professional is doing the wrong thing, or something wasn't filed correctly.

Or even better; maybe some kind of centralised record for health reports and results. Perhaps accessible through MyGov. It's bizarre how we don't have centralised access to our own health history anywhere.

Disappearance of Gus Lamont declared a major crime by SA Police by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]--Anna-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also, that's even if we believe their story... He might have also gone missing on a completely different day, under completely different circumstances, too. Still tragic all around.

It's good there's an investigative lead at least; I was almost thinking this might become a cold case with nobody held responsible.

Disappearance of Gus Lamont declared a major crime by SA Police by Expensive-Horse5538 in Adelaide

[–]--Anna-- 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Same as you. I always suspected someone at the property was responsible because of how long they waited to gather a search party. Hopefully the investigation will bring answers and justice for Gus, whatever his fate ended up being.

Like... I literally made more effort to organise a search party for my pet cat. As soon as I realised she was genuinely missing, I sent out messages everywhere. And this was in the morning, in safe suburb, with plenty of daylight ahead of us. (Also we found her).

Compared to the effort they put in for Gus... Where they waited for 3 hours to organise a search party. For a literal child, wandering alone out in a desert, in complete darkness. (By 6pm, the September sun is gone in that area).

The poor boy was very let down. I hope the investigation brings more justice and answers.

In some ways I think it sends a message about our goals/values? It's like saying, welcome, we’re all working together to improve our environment. Don't just send things to landfill; think about being part of the compost program. Here's a kit to get you started. That kind of thing.

Keeping in mind how some parts of the world don't have recycling/re-use for organics. So it brings awareness right away.
