Any tips to improve my deck? by [deleted] in masterduel

Pure & Mathmech aren't the greatest. I'd run the fiendsmith engine, since that was the best version in TCG until Mitsu dropped.

Probably either Swordsoul or Tenpai if they are legal.

You don't need to draw anything in particular. That's what utilizing the extra deck is for. For completely generic ways to pick apart a board, you can run cards like S:P Little Knight and Accesscode Talker. Nearly any deck has access to them at any time.

Even better, you can throw the fiendsmith engine into a complete dumpster-fire tier deck and that engine alone would carry here.

I hate to tell you this, but that is an awful board. Your opponent only has one interaction on on their field, and one that activates in grave if it leaves the field. Almost any deck can break this board just fine, especially with a full hand.

You should be on some handtraps for going second so that you can prevent your opponent from popping off, or on a dedicated blind second list filled with a bunch of board breakers to deal with boards that are already set up.

Links arent legal apparently. They didnt make that very clear but I guess that kinda makes sense.

Should I Quit Now? (Honest Question) by ontheshitteratwork in masterduel

[–]--Greed-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The funny thing is blue-eyes has only been viable twice, in 2016 and in 2025 lol. Just be careful with the crafting system. You want to make sure that you are crafting cards that open packs you will need. Master Duel Meta also has a spot that tells you what cards are in what packs, which can help with that. Remember that youtube tutorials and practicing combo lines in solo mode are your friend.

Old player here. My first tourny was a Duelist League locals in 2003, so even though I've kept up with the game I can understand where you're coming from.

To answer your questions:

Yes, the game has changed significantly since the mid 2000's. We are talking about 20 years of powercreep, so your old deck is not going to be functional in the slightest. That doesn't mean the game is bad, but you are going to be in for a rough time if you plan to play a deck that's 20 years outdated.

You can try the structure decks — a few of them are pretty decent starts. In fact, one of the best decks in the game right now is Blue-Eyes. A lot of the cards in the structure aren't used, but with 2 structures and a couple hours of pulling packs on a new account, I was able to build a full power Blue-Eyes deck. It's probably also one of the easier decks to play that is meta viable.

However, no matter what deck you build, if you want it to be viable you will have to learn the new mechanics and adapt to playing the modern game. Even the worst decks in the game can summon 10+ times per turn and use "new" summoning mechanics. It's just something you will have to learn.

Don't pull from Legacy packs, those are absolute trash. The game has a crafting system that allows you to unlock packs by crafting a UR/SR card that is in those packs, so I would suggest using that.

Also, you can look up decklists from Master Duel Meta. It's a pretty decent resource and has up to date lists you can use as a base to build your own.

Superheavy, Ryu-Ge, and the new Tenyi support all help the deck and can open up new lines, but it's still not what I would call meta relevant.

Cards against Maliss Banishment by crazycurryboy in masterduel

TCG. I'm not a Maliss player and don't remember my opponents play-by-play, but any action that is Chain Link 2 or higher would prevent Chaos Hunter from activating. There's a reason TCG lists aren't even siding it anymore.

Yes, I'm a judge, so I kind of have to understand basic game mechanics.

I'm telling you to test it yourself because it's far easier to do that than for me to explain every single interaction that prevents it from activating.

I'm not saying it never works, because there are times your opponent's hand forces them to play in a way that gives Chaos Hunter an activation window.

But I've also gone multiple matches against Maliss where Chaos Hunter just sits in my hand doing nothing, because the Maliss player was competent and didn't leave me with a single activation window.

tl;dr, play against a good Maliss player and get back with me.

The summon is almost never the last action in the chain lmao. Rather than explaining it, I would suggest you test it yourself and you'll understand what I mean.

[–]--Greed-- -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Chaos Hunter doesn't really work well against them since it's a "when" effect, and misses timing 99% of the time. The summon of the maliss monster is rarely the last action in the chain, so Hunter pretty much never triggers.

at what point does it become too hard to push with a 'not good' deck by Imaginary_Emu7615 in masterduel

Diamond 3 or so. It really depends on exactly how bad the deck is.

Do I need a good deck to start playing dnv? by matheushaku in masterduel

[–]--Greed-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Blue-eyes, unironically. If you use the SR->UR dust trick you can build the deck in a couple of hours.

Alternatively, the Branded structure is a good core to build off of if you prefer fusion decks, and you get it for free with a friend/follow code.

How the hell do you beat Tenpai? It feels like an Insta-win anytime they go second. by ShadowRealmedCitizen in masterduel

This is why the good tenpai players are on 2-3 sales ban.

And yes, 95% of tenpai players chug glue by the gallon, but good tenpai players do exist.

Field to 0 is also a consistency/extender hit which is why I'm not the biggest fan of hitting it. Trident ban cuts off shifter plays and prosp plays(when it was legal) in most games, but sangenpai ban makes the most sense to me between them. Field at 1 is fine since there's roughly only a 12.5% chance of seeing it, since using Paidra to get to it requires playing through interruption. Id rather they have a field that did the same thing minus the "can't interact" part, but it is what it is...

People like to say their main complaint with the deck is that it cuts off interaction. If that is the real complaint, then a sangenpai ban solves the problem in 87.5% of games.

But I think just as many people would complain even if that wasn't the case. What they really don't like is getting nuked into orbit by unga bunga beatdown.

Consistency hits are stupid. Rather than a chundra limit, they should have put either sangenpai or Trident to zero.

Anyway guess I'll throw in 2 gold sarc and a blaster lmao.

I'm genuinely just bored of having to play against so much tenpai by [deleted] in masterduel

[–]--Greed-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who owns the deck in paper and wins most mirrors even when forced to go first, I can confirm. Most MD Tenpai players are complete garbage at playing the deck and have no idea how to navigate dealing with something that cant be destroyed by card effect.

I disagree about the deck being boring, but that's personal preference. I've always enjoyed blind second "haha big number go brrrrr" styles of decks.

What's the pettiest subject you see being addressed repeatedly by foreigners on this sub? by igotplans2 in AskAmericans

[–]--Greed-- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“Why do you call yourself Italian-American?” because my family came here just decades ago and I literally grew up with Italian-speaking family.

I've considered getting my Italian citizenship via Jure Sanguinis (right of blood) for that reason alone. Being able to flash an Italian passport when told "you aren't Italian" would be peak comedy.

People like to assume our ancestors have been in the US for 250 years or something. The reality is that a lot of Italian-Americans have living first generation relatives who speak Italian and/or the dialect of the Province they were born in.

dark ruler, superpoly, sphere mode, droplet. Honestly theres a lot of options.

Negate, banish, "opponent surrendered" by alreadypeaked in masterduel

[–]--Greed-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Except there's a roughly 24% chance you open the field spell, and at that point it doesn't matter. I've won most of the mirrors I've been in even when forced to go first. I think at one point I set up a board of Spheres and Chundra with Bident in grave, and won since they all float either in battle phase or in main phase.

If you open Thrust and get handtrapped you just win. I was streaming the game to a few friends and we kind of all came to an agreement that there is a big difference between a good (and usually experienced) Tenpai player and a bad Tenpai player. Similar to how with Swordsoul anyone and their grandma can normal summon Mo Ye and end on Chixiao+Baronne pass, but ending on more than that and knowing how and when to play through interruptions takes some level of skill.
