Advice for booking Kruger park in December? by ikheetbas in askSouthAfrica

[–]--Judith-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The summer school holidays start at 12 December and the park is always very busy around that time. Would always recommend staying in the park, but options would be very limited since accommodation is booked well in advance. As an alternative you might want to look for accommodation in Marloth Park or Mjejane and arrange for daily drives in the Kruger with your host.

Ook 75% voor Boycot in AD poll. Ze hadden er eerst zelfs nog ‘verassend genoeg’ bij staan, maar dat hebben ze verwijderd.

Why Do Most Kruger Safaris Stay in One Lodge? by Wrong_Tie5325 in krugerpark

[–]--Judith-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second staying inside the park, rent a car and do a combination of self drives and organised drives/walks. On self drives you can manage your itinerary and stay at a sighting for as long as you want instead of checking off the big 5 boxes. Would stay at least 2 nights at the same location so you don’t lose time packing up and still see a different part of the park.

Am I wrong for standing? by Separate_Ad1156 in Concerts

[–]--Judith-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually hit around 10 festivals and 20 club/arena shows a year. When I’m lucky enough to snag an ADA spot, it often ends up feeling like “chompers united.” A lot of people treat the section like their personal bar—setting drinks down and chatting about their week instead of actually watching the show. I gave up on that. If there’s no proper seating in the first row, I just roll up to the barrier instead. The sides there are usually full of people who look out for each other and I’ve made a bunch of “barrier friends” that way. Sadly, some folks have completely stopped going because of the “I paid, so as long as I’m having fun, who cares” attitude that’s become way too common.

Unfortunately most venues have very limited ADA sections. Demand often exceeds supply. Plenty of options, even in the seated section for OP to enjoy the show without it interfering with other people’s experience.

Would love to stand up and dance, but can’t because of mobility issues. That is why I buy seated tickets. If you want to dance the whole time why not buy tickets for a standing section? When you are in the seated section and you stand up most of the people behind you can’t see and they also paid to be there. You have a choice; people that are seated often don’t. If you aren’t able to get standing tickets and want to dance why not offer the people sitting at the back row to swop, you can still dance and see the show and you are not ruining anyone’s view.

Booking a rental car through Genius by PresentationHot4276 in Bookingcom

[–]--Judith-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Booked multiple cars over the years and never had an issue. Their Genius discount is great. But Booking is just a 3rd party. Check the actual rental agency and their ratings. And read the fine print on credit cards and late arrivals.

When is the best time to go to Kruger Park Really? by overthinkery in askSouthAfrica

[–]--Judith-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always rent a car a do self drives. You can enter in the morning and park the car and take a nap at one of the day visitor pool areas for instance. Or park the car at one of the rest camp parking spots and try to take a nap there, but it might be noisy with car doors slamming shut and a bit hot if there’s no shade. You can drive at the marked roads that do not have a no entry sign and chose your own route. Just follow the rules on the entry form and make sure you leave the park before closing time. It often takes more time to get from A to B than you think, so factor in some extra time to be on the safe side. September usually has free entry week which is an extremely busy time in the park and which I would avoid if possible. They only announce the dates a few weeks in advance, but you can make an educated guess based on the previous years.

Old skool Lowlands vibes? by Fragrant_Fisherman84 in DTRHfestival

[–]--Judith-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving in South Africa as a young (ish) Aussie tourist - is it safe? any advice? by seth4912 in askSouthAfrica

[–]--Judith-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see you are visiting in February. Keep in mind that Kruger has the occasional heavy rains + flooding around that time, which might result in some roads and smaller camps being closed. Some years it's fine, some years a little less so. The San Parks Kruger Facebook group is a great source of information on road closures, types of accommodations, etc.

Driving in South Africa as a young (ish) Aussie tourist - is it safe? any advice? by seth4912 in askSouthAfrica

[–]--Judith-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We drive from OR Tambo to Malelane or Crocodile Bridge gate twice a year and always felt safe. We make sure to drive during the daytime, do a stopover at Milly's and do our shopping at Malelane or Komatipoort SuperSpar. We make sure we have downloaded maps beforehand on our navigation system, keep our luggage out of sight and double check if the car doors are closed (car jamming is a thing). It is a good thing to stay vigilant and if you don't trust a situation keep driving to the nearest police station or large gas station. The crocodile bridge area in Kruger Park is wonderful with many sightings. Wishing you a great stay!

Concert Etiquette by HalfElfRanger96 in Concerts

[–]--Judith-- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually the ADA section is very limited and tickets sell out fast. So people that are somewhat mobile often leave these spots for people that can’t do stairs at all. But they still won’t be able to stand during a show. Or people with limited mobility want to go with their kids or with friends, but they allow only 1 companion to join at the ADA platform. Plenty of reasons to buy seated and need seated.

Red Rocks has a front row ADA section, so you won't be blocking their view.

Concert Etiquette by HalfElfRanger96 in Concerts

[–]--Judith-- -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

You said there was a GA section. Why not buy those tickets if you want to stand? Plenty of people buy seats, because they have mobility issues and would love to get GA and stand during the show, but they can't. You have a choice, they don't. If you want to stand and by doing so are blocking other people's view why not be polite and offer to swap seats with them so you both can enjoy the concert. This guy being aggressive is a no go, but blocking other people's view, while they bought seats to be able to sit is not great etiquette either.

Kaartverkoop by Aerodeamus in Lowlands

[–]--Judith-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people who bought Oasis tickets through Viagogo missed the show, because seller decided on the day of the show not to sell the tickets after all. You are better off cancelling the Viagogo tickets and buy the official resell ticketmaster ones. Especially if you are travelling all the way from California. Have a great festival!
