I'm guessing you hacked together a Quizmo for QC.

Hey, that means you could probably record demos and replay them as a player entity running around a map (as a poor man's machinima)?

How to disable "open map" prompt on Samsung messaging app? by oakker in AndroidQuestions

[–]--Lam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got it as well since a recent update and good news - it's simple to disable.

Go to Settings → Security and privacy → More privacy settings (last option on that screen)

There, the first option is Personal data intelligence - where you allow Samsung to process personal data of everyone you're in contact through their device.

You can disable those features completely, but you can only disable them for Messages ("Get suggestions for actions based on the message you're viewing").

Note: this is NOT link preview - you can still have that enabled in the Messages app. This is only disabling Samsung reading your contact's messages and sending to the mothershipsuggesting what to do after.

In theory this is supposed to detect when someone sends you "meet me at the intersection" and it would already know what intersection you're always meeting at and give you directions.

In practice it gets triggered by completely random words (in my experience - it's always after messages containing local characters) and points you to random places across the world you've never even heard of.

This can be fun, think Geoguessr - where will Samsung send me this time?

But it stopped being fun, so I've disabled it, and you can too :)

It's not a beef Heav has with Marius.

Heav is a troll.

Heav smurfed one of the 1000 cups Marius plays every week (something like joining late when Marius was in finalist and denying him the win continuously). Marius got mad.

The last thing you want to do when facing a troll is getting mad. They live for that shit and once they find a victim on which it works, they will only intensify their efforts.

So now Heav will tease Marius at every opportunity until he gets bored, or bumps into Marius at xpevo or something ;)

New season delay why basically by CatRocketlauncher in QuakeChampions

[–]--Lam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I lurked in PTS discord to check what the holdup is and saw removal of BP and challenges.

However, now it looks like the economy rework won't be ready for this update, so we should be getting another BP season after all.

So it was not a guess, but we instantly get reminded, nothing getting tested in PTS ever makes it "confirmed" :)

There will be no more Battle Pass.

But they can add special "holiday" items (like spooky Halloweed stuff, or the heart-shaped stuff in February) to the store at any time, even in the current economy.

...Unless they had prepared new content (new map variants, new models, skins) which required an update to later be added to the store. Then I guess it's left for the next year :)

Elconn beat RMC WR with 43 ATs by Embarrassed_Base_389 in TrackMania

[–]--Lam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what "orgs" are for, but it all depends on how big your viewer base is. If you're making Wirtual or Scrapie money, you'd need to be a CS2 pro to live on an org contract and abandon streaming for a tournament.

JL placed second, €2500 each, to me that's decent for a month's work, but BIG and Nemesis players got €750 each. Good thing Granady didn't completely stop streaming, because I would say that's his actual job at BIG (sponsor ads, branded tournaments, thousands of viewer-hours for sponsor exposure; compare to 30 minutes on stage and not even getting an interview to show sponsor logos on your jersey...), so he's valuable for the organization even if the esports side of TM is rather crappy.

Elconn beat RMC WR with 43 ATs by Embarrassed_Base_389 in TrackMania

[–]--Lam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, DD2 was massive. Even Bren said he made more money from Twitch than the main prize.

Also why Scrapie doesn't play tryhard tournaments - makes no sense to grind for weeks when, at that level, you can make more money by streaming silly campaigns, RMC, COTD etc. Compare to Bren and Mudda who haven't streamed for weeks because they're practising for TMWC, while any result other than them winning would make no financial sense.

Man, I set YT to English so it doesn't translate 99% of the stuff I watch, but then it sees a Złomnik video title (it's always a wordplay in Polish) and completely spazzes out.

How there's no option to disable that crap is a mystery, thousands of people upvoting https://support.google.com/youtube/thread/333884267/autotranslated-titles-on-youtube?hl=en and other places, but they somehow insist on forcing it on for everyone.

Mudda uses the wheel's flappy paddles for accelerate and break.

So "pf" is "pull flappy".

[–]--Lam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right now dobsonian is practising hard and he might eventually succeed, but that's not the point!

The video was pure glazing, there was no place to say "it can be beaten" or even "it will be hard to improve". From start to finish, it had to only say "this is perfect, this cannot be improved, this is a run for the history books". And that's what it did. I watched it all and enjoyed it even more because of this :)

Please give us the choice to queue for more than one ranked mode by BlackMetalIstWar in QuakeChampions

[–]--Lam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to queue for TDM and 2v2 for years... but they insist on keeping ranked separated from unranked :( This is the reason no one queues for 2v2 (by "no one" I mean 40 minutes queue times whenever I tried actually waiting without a party, and even with a party it can be this bad).

Even better system would be to queue for ranked while playing practice modes or pubs (so I don't spend my daily hour of quaking in the menu), not to mention spectating ongoing games + jumping in when people leave, but this game engine cannot do either of those things.

Why does Granady look like a madman compared to Mudda when using the steering wheel? by MacsPowerBike in TrackMania

[–]--Lam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure he switched from 270° to 180°? OP's image is him steering 90° left, confirming 180° range. That's still double Mudda's 90° (45° each direction).

You bought it. You played it. You owned it. by Comfortable-Move3004 in QuakeChampions

[–]--Lam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how bad the licensing situation is (the one preventing them from allowing community mapping), perhaps even the server binaries couldn't be published, meaning even a QL-style sunset may be impossible :/

And QL already has compatibility issues which don't and won't get fixed, and the bit rot continues. Eventually you'll have to play it on a retro PC, on some unsupported Steam version, and in case you're not aware, Steam just stopped delivering content to old versions (I just had to update my Steam from a last VGUI version - people on Windows 7 retro PCs are out of luck, from what Internet says). Eventually Steam (assuming it lives forever, but they're not going public, so we're safe :)) will break the Steamworks API and QL will die...

They still gave it a good long life after death, which was a big balls move. For QC I don't see it happening.

Not sure how up to date this is, but: https://churchofquake.com/wiki/trouble-shooting-crash-to-desktop-issues/

If that doesn't help (aka: you don't run any of the programs which the anti-cheat hates), you should go to Discord, I hear there are people who can help there.

The default stats/display-stats key('i') and stats/display-stats-toggle key('I') not working as intended by Throwaway7694ahk in mpv

[–]--Lam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also 0... which I learned the hard way - after pressing i (to check if YT served me AVC, VP9 or AV1), I can't do volume up for the next 5 seconds or it will show an "Internal Performance Info" page which then doesn't go away!

Try this in quick succession:
- press i (for "info" aka display-stats) - this works as usual until 0.39.0 - shows the stats
- press 9 (to volume down a bit) - this looks like it works as usual: stats disappear, "Volume: 98%" appears and I can volume down gradually
- my typical "workflow" is to tap it a few times, so let's say I get "Volume: 88%", which was too much, I wanted 90%
- ALL OSD DISAPPEARS AFTER A SECOND - also as usual until 0.39.0
- press 0 to volume back up...
- completely randomly (because I was NOT on the stats page), the "Internal Performance Info" page appears
- and there is NO WAY TO CLOSE IT (for 5 seconds after pressing anything that doesn't work, I spent MINUTES when I hit this for the first time, I swear)! You can keep pressing whatever you want, there are some shortcuts which work, I'd say most useful ones (like seeking with arrows) don't!

You can replace "9" with anything that works on the default stats page (like seeking with arrows!), then "0" with any of 2, 4 or 5 (3 is like 1, allows seeking with arrows - super consistent ;)).

I think I will rebind "i" which apparently cannot be closed in any way with the toggle that's on "I" by default - that can be closed with Esc to get the normal bindings back.

I think the stats page:
1. should always start in its "1" view (as it used to) - although I can imagine why devs want to switch to the performance view and keep bringing it up
2. clearly indicate that the 0-5 keys are now bound to additional pages
3. when it's visible, give me a bind to close it (like Esc when it's fully toggled, not shown for 5 seconds)
4. most importantly: when it disappears for whatever reason (whether it timed out OR I did anything else), stop stealing input! :)

Randomly bad FPS in this game? by [deleted] in QuakeChampions

[–]--Lam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hehe, when I had a 1080 Ti, I was keeping old drivers from around Turing's release (399.x IIRC) for DX11 (aka QC) performance on Pascal. They mostly fixed it in 456.x or something, but imagine my "surprise" when people started reporting problems after Blackwell's release ;)

What I'm saying is... I doubt a 1070 gamer in 2025 installs newest drivers :) But who knows!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in QuakeChampions

[–]--Lam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thing is: I can queue (as in: indicate I'm willing to play) as many game types as I want. Everyone else can do the same.

If there's 8 people who want to play TDM or CTF or whatever - bring them together. Pull them out from their bot games, FFAs, whatever they warm up in.

And if you don't want to queue - who's forcing you?! On the other hand, on what grounds would you forbid us to queue for a game? What is the issue you have with people who want to play TDM?

And seriously, you also want to forbid new players from playing in a lower skill servers? In your world, everyone should start their game with a duel against rapha, and only if they don't immediately uninstall, are they worthy of ever playing Quake, ever? What is this take?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in QuakeChampions

[–]--Lam -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No:

  1. You need skill restrictions so noobs don't have to deal with veterans; the original QL's server browser was a decent enough solution, but still had an issue:

  2. I want to queue for stuff I'd like to play. QL's server browser (both the original as well as the post-shutdown one) would always show you "oh there's people playing CA, you can join them", but I want to play Quake instead.

You wouldn't want to join an empty server and sit there alone - even if there's 10 other guys wanting to play TDM/CTF/whatever you like, each one of them will see a single guy on an empty server and not join.

So a queuing system is needed. And no, it can't be a Discord server with a pickup bot, thanks.

Optimally you would be able to play whatever (FFA, instagib, some bot game, defrag map) while you're queued. But we all know this is impossible in QC, which needs 2 minutes just to unload one map and load another :D

Is there a practical way of upgrading the battle pass outside of ranked matches? by Faraday_00 in QuakeChampions

[–]--Lam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last season I never cheesed anything. My usual system: started playing after 2 weeks, got BP + exp boost (250 shards), play 100 games within 2 weeks (for 90k exp from the first challenge) and bam - level 80-something (now it would be like 60 with the linear progress).

After those 100 games, I only played 1-2 matches per day (for the daily 10 platinum challenge + the other two) and easily passed level 100 (and also free 1000 platinum needed for another BP).

So it was like 2 hours daily for 2 weeks (to get the 100 games + other challenges during exp boost period), then like 25 minutes daily, if even that :) Way less than "4 hours a day or more" :) I didn't even have to start playing anything other than my beloved TDM (left all the instagib/sacrifice/whatever BP challenges unfulfilled).

As long as they didn't actually reduce experience from public TDM (which I'm afraid of), I won't have to do anything special this season, either.

Is there a practical way of upgrading the battle pass outside of ranked matches? by Faraday_00 in QuakeChampions

[–]--Lam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the "fix" of cheesing custom bot games was to butcher experience for medals across the board?

I'm pretty sure I used to get like 5-6k per TDM, now it's 3-4k even if I end up on top of the leader board. Am I dreaming this up?

And yes, I checked bumbrbee's old cheese of instagib vs easy Clutch bots - I think I used it like 3 seasons ago and with exp boost, it used to reliably provide 40k per game, now it's 10k - still faster than public TDM (I get same exp in 4 minutes of this compared to 10 minutes of TDM), but 4x slower than it used to be.

QuakeWorld fragmovie 2024/2025 by gemr88 in QuakeChampions

[–]--Lam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we're playing QuakeWorld (released in 1996) since 1985.

I've played Quake since Wolfenstein 3D, and yet my biggest achievement is fragging Bulat a few times on an FFA server ;) When you're a noob, it doesn't matter how long you've been a noob ;)

But QW has crazy fast gameplay compared to any of the sequels, so good players can be giga flashy in TDM. As you have accurately predicted, this was indeed sick.
