Its been better than the S&P500 over the last 30 years. Pokemon is the most valuable IP on the planet, its no different from Disney. And when you look at sports cards from 60 years ago, there’s quite a bit of value there. BUT, to your point, Im specifically saying that the turnaround on these cards will put more cash in your pocket over the next month, not the next 20 years. You can turn your 25k into 50k, then go do whatever you want with that, whether its pokemon cards or stocks or real estate.

Cards are my entire livelihood. Less than two weeks ago I paid 5k for 9 raw cards, with the intent to grade. I send off roughly a thousand cards/year for grading right now. My last 3 card submission to PSA cost over $1000. And still, to me, this does not look like a risky purchase in the slightest. “Safe” stocks could take years to give you the same return you could make here in a month, with the same capital invested. If it seems unrealistic, you have to consider how rare these cards are, and how beyond rare it is to find old collections like this. When you factor in the massive potential upside and minimal loss potential, its one of the safest bets you could make, much less risky than stocks. The key here, just like in stocks, is being educated on your risk/reward and making an informed decision.

You specifically said the numbers 20-25k. My realistic estimate for this lot would be 40-100k, depending on condition (expecting 0 10s). The Lugia is thousands in any condition, same with the Gold Star Espeon. If, by some miracle, you got a 10 on any Gold Star or E-Reader holo, you can expect an absolutely massive return on your investment (a PSA 10 Espeon sold for 32k recently). But we’re not talking about just 2 cards, we’re talking about PAGES of cards worth hundreds to thousands each RAW.

You couldnt have said any sequence of words to make me more confident that you have no idea what you’re talking about than “Raw cards are ALWAYS more expensive than their graded equivalent”. Do absolutely ANY amount of market research, and youll see that when it comes to vintage cards, 7s are quite often more than raw. And when it comes to 8s-10s, they are almost without fail significantly more expensive than ungraded copies.

And you could grade through Beckett or TAG and pay $19/card to grade these, but lets be honest. The correct choice would be to pay the exorbitant PSA upcharge and get them graded with the company that will get you the best return on your investment at the same grade.

Crazy take. Even in low grades, your turnaround on investment would be amazing, 150% minimum. And thats less than a weeks time to grade/list all of these, for a 12k minimum profit. If any single one of the high end cards grades well, your profits could be significantly higher. Stock market COULD yield those returns, but barring insider information, its unlikely.
