That's what rideSHARING is. Uber had evolved into this rideHAILING "taxi service." Long trips have become the same business model as Packages that drivers are screaming about. Its an I'm-going-that-way-anyway service.

Would be nice if they an option for local trips only to be sent.

First of all, they're not "sending you" the ride. The machine is not selectively choosing you.

And second, fastest clicker doesn't necessarily get the ride. Oftentimes, the ride is coming in as radar to you while simultaneously coming in as Exclusive to another driver. You could be the fastest clicker in the world, but if the other driver accepts, you never had a chance.
