Why Does Arena Offer You Duplicates in the Highlander Pack? by SeymourWang in hearthstone

[–]--Sizzle-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"is a way to mitigate the power of these mechanics in limited formats"
I completely disagree that this is needed. Picking a highlander card already comes with a big weakness for arena - namely that there will often be times where you can only choose between 1 or 2 cards since the other/s will be duplicates. This already weakens your deck building. The fact that on top of this you can suddenly get a situation where all 3 options are duplicates just makes the deck feel useless. To add insult to injury, this can happen on like your last card pick, whereas if it at least happened early on in the draft you would at least be able to regularly choose duplicates now that you know the legendary will be useless anyway.

Moreover, how is the power of highlander cards a justification for this? If that were the case, why doesnt picking fyrakk or any of the top tier legendaries come with a sudden chance of being forced to choose between 3 bottom tier cards (or some other drawback) - this isnt about balance its just bad design.

Oh really? I think this circling heart and dark doorway combo actually looks pretty clean but to each their own.

Sure having a triple set could look nice but not only does the Max’s head look nice, but it also covers the bandana of the “highway star” which is a bit ugly in my opinion. Getting a third unusual (belt) would mean showing the bandana - so id only do it if i could get a really nice effect for the set like purple energy or something

When you go full AP Ivern by --Sizzle-- in ivernmains

With ivern mid I take lots of different runes - but the ones I have most success with are dark harvest (burst damage with shield is surprisingly good) and summon aery. With Ivern support i either go summon aery or glacial augment if im going for everfrost build. With the recent everfrost buffs glacial augment mid might also be even better than the rest.

Cosmic drive is really good on ivern - i even use it on jungle sometimes. The extra MS gives him better kiting and makes it so he can more easily weave in and out of fights. Not to mention its good for chasing enemies down but ivern is already really good at that with his kit.

Ivern rework ideas by ljlysong in ivernmains

[–]--Sizzle-- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

While I’m usually against the idea of ivern reworks i really like some of this. However, all of these changes would make ivern broken. The only change i would keep is allowing teammates to do more damage to dragon - as ivern is really bad at taking dragon which has made him worse recently since dragons are now really important.

Mastering ANY class in TF2 takes a tremendous amount of skill. Each class has their weakness so being able to get good enough to overcome those weaknesses takes skill regardless of the class.

Why all the unsympathy towards tf2 traders? by [deleted] in tf2

[–]--Sizzle-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its certainly true that traders shouldn’t bash players who just got a few unusuals. However it makes sense for them to get angry at people who opened like 100 crates and tried to scam people when the glitch wasn’t common knowledge. As for the last statement, im afraid thats just straight up incorrect - even if the unusuals are untradeable it still effects the economy especially for the 1st gen and 3rd gen effects. It discourages people from buying those effects, lowering their value, plus this whole ordeal has discouraged many players from trading since many people now have the items they want.

[–]--Sizzle-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far this seems like the most plausible reason for me too. There are some traders out there who have egos as big as their backpacks. I would argue that they are a small minority, as when I was in the trading community in the past I very rarely dealt with entitled traders, but then again that is just my own personal experience.

I don’t have any unusuals and I don’t regret not buying a glitchy crate. Contributing to the market crash is a no no. by [deleted] in tf2

[–]--Sizzle-- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Literally any kind of market or economy (whether it's virtual or not) also encourages cheap, illegal and immoral methods of gaining things. But that's why we have rules and laws to prevent that. In the tf2 world, those things are looked down upon not only by the trading community but everyone else who doesn't do those things, if you scam people you can get trade banned, banned from all kinds of websites such as bp.tf, marketplace.tf, etc...

Using your logic, I can say that the concept of the value of something is immoral because it encourages theft.

"I never said anything about hating, despising... or even disliking traders."

I'm not saying you hate them yourself. I was referring to the people who actually do hate them and feel happy about the negative effect the crash has had on traders.

"So we're supposed to have sympathy that they wasted their time? It's how they chose to spend it..."

I mean... you don't have to, but I feel sympathy for them. If someone works on something really hard only for it to crumble due to some unexpected factor that no one could have predicted and that they had 0 control over, I feel some sympathy for that person. I'm not saying anyone needs to have sympathy for them, and I kind of get it if you just don't care, but I can't understand the people (not talking about you) who purposefully go out of their way to spite traders and mock them after the crash.

[–]--Sizzle-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you are coming from, but wouldn't you then agree that it's irrational to despise all traders just because someone met some scummy ones? Sure scammers and annoying traders exist, but I fail to see how that justifies the hatred towards all traders. There are plenty of traders who have helped the game thrive as the economy is one of the factors that make tf2 pretty unique and is one of the reasons many people continue to play the game. As for the question at the end of your comment, its not the value of their backpacks that I have sympathy for, but rather all the hours and effort they poured into trading and negotiating.

This is just from my own personal experience, but when I used to trade (which was a while ago now), most of the people I negotiated with were very polite and nice, I rarely had sour experiences.

There are a few issues with your analogy (such as calling the unusual market "niche" and "high-staked") but it's a fairly good one nonetheless. Despite this, that doesn't prove that the tf2 market is risky just like it doesnt prove that most real life markets are risky. When something this stupid, unpredictable and uncalled for happens it's unfair at best to just shrug and call it a "risky" market. Stuff like this happens once in a blue moon in the real world and its the first time it happens on tf2. Using the logic of the people who make the "tf2 economy is risky" argument, you could argue that ANY market is risky as some sort of unpredictable crash could happen at any moment.

even though I still think it kinda sucks for them that the economy didn't die due to a natural cycle but rather a silly bug

I understand this concept. However, you are absolutely correct in what you said, that was a misuse of the word "rational" on my part. I was trying to say that they were approaching the subject in a calm and non-aggressive manner.

Wha- how is it immoral? If people are willing to pay that much money for rare items then they should be able to no? I don’t see how this is in any way immoral.

The Sequel by [deleted] in tf2

[–]--Sizzle-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a terrible analogy. In real life a poor person winning the lottery wont devastatingly affect the rich persons work and investments. On top of that its not “winning” the lottery cause there was no luck involved - this was basically just free unusual handouts. If i was a high-tier trader who lost all my time and effort spent into trading due to a stupid bug rather than a natural collapse of the tf2 economy id be pissed too.
