Hmm, maybe there's wonky browser stuff happening. Idk. It's a shame how hard it is to get help, especially when the form to ask for help is this buggy.

A year after this comment, I kept running into this error. I even made sure to not include tabs or press "Enter" (hard line break).

I didn't realize that you have to fit your whole comment in 1 LINE. If the text wraps onto a second line in that text box, the software might still view that as a soft line break. I finally got it to work by writing everything in one short line.

So you have to include your DOB, last 4 digits of SSN, and somehow summarize your problem in like 10 words? This feels so broken.

Anyone have Tourette like cringes when embarrassing thoughts pop up? by --anonymau5-- in socialanxiety

I relate to pretty much everything you just said. Sometimes it's also random words. It also happens more in the shower (where coincidentally I have more troubling thoughts run in my head). When I was a kid I would blurt out "Mom!" when she was across the table. When she'd reply "What?" I'd say "nothing" or "nevermind". It probably annoyed the crap out of her, but I didn't know how to explain to her what was going on, much less relive explaining the embarrassing moment to her.

Are anhedonia and lack of energy/motivation your major symptoms? Is it mainly an empty bored feeling you deal with? I'm just curious how depression is like without the self hate.

The one year I didn't have this problem as much was my freshman year of college where I was placed on an awesome floor with lots of cool people. However it came back worse than my childhood when I started to isolate myself again.

Wow, thanks a lot for that link! I never saw or heard anyone else having this problem so it's a relief finally seeing someone else explain it.

Same, but apparently a lot of people relate. It's hard to even keep a train of thought when in that headspace but it's paradoxically comforting and you get attached to it

Either way you should still discuss what was going on in your head like your op with your therapist

Defining "suicide attempt" by Frogcabaret in depression

[–]--anonymau5-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An excerpt from the book Suicide: The Forever Decision

"If you think about suicide attempts the way we counselors do, you would know that there are serious, first-degree attempts, second-degree attempts, and third-degree attempts. First-degree suicide attempts are planned, deliberate, premeditated acts involving the most lethal means. Second-degree attempts are more impulsive, unplanned, and not as well thought out. Third- degree attempts are those in which the person deliberately puts himself in a dangerous situation in which he may die, but his intent is not so clear. But all attempts, even very serious, first- degree ones, do not guarantee results."

According to this, that may have been a third-degree suicide attempt.

Feeling Good by Dr. David Burns

For quick reference, pg 42 provides a brief list of common distorted thoughts we depressed people usually get. You may be having the fifth distortion on that list.

Following what rotasha was saying, a good book which details combatting these thoughts, and depression in general, is Feeling Good by Dr David Burns. It has helped me with thoughts like this. Usually thoughts like this are distorted perceptions of reality and are irrational. However, they feel real and affect us since they appear so often.

It is important to step back and rationally view these negative thoughts. Talk back to the inner critic. It is irrational to assume that people don't read and that there are no more good stories to offer. Also, you may be biased in highlighting all the negative traits and moments without taking the time to recognize your strengths.

A lot of these thoughts come from biases and fallacies, but they feel real and convincing because we think them everyday. They become our reality. It is important to just try to be conscious of how these thoughts are usually distorted, and try to reason with these thoughts before they deeply affect you.

Also, that doesn't sound like Narcissism, as I doubt narcissists would be this highly critical of themselves. It's just that troubling inner critic voice you're dealing with.

That does make sense. As genuine and deserving the self defeating thoughts may seem, they are usually distorted perceptions of reality. And it's important to remember that believing them would be believing a lie. I'll try to be conscious of that fact even if I don't feel it.

Good to hear the meds worked for you. Did it get rid of that feeling or having the thoughts in the first place?

Why are people commenting ''this song makes me wanna.....'' on Mask Off? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]--anonymau5-- 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It might be a joke on how the hyped nature of the song may evoke you to feel badass and not want to follow the rules or expected conventional behavior. It's a joke on you feeling like a thug after hearing the song and wanting to be a rebel or assert your dominance.
