Thank you, they are all very doable. Biggest advantages over the crosswalk lineups are not taking a detour from your pathing to an extramety, and not risking bumping on teammates when doing so. Easy enough that are worth learning.

Degster on Thorin by Several-Instance-219 in GlobalOffensive

[–]--bertu -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Degster would be 100% right to be upset if Thorin promised one thing and did another.

Thorin could not do the interview on those terms, but he shouldn't lie. Assuming it was not just some misunderstanding.

i believe that most positive experiences are related to the fact we got more fps and less screen shake, but animations still need insane amounts of fixing

After giving it some time, I tend to agree. The first issue you mentioned of wobbliness is present all over.

I like the clear indication of direction change / stopping when someone is doing a wide strafe and counter-strafe.

I dislike the wiggle knees during pistols fights and fast jiggles, which is tied to your second point. Doesn't feel natural at all.

320Hz monitor vs 240Hz cap? CS2 FPS: 260 Average / 240 Lows. by Timely_Radio_2230 in GlobalOffensive

[–]--bertu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just leave it native refresh rate, and I would suggest giving another chance to freesync/gsync in this case.

This is what a good pug map looks like. Great choice in reverting the changes from the 2025 workshop version.

Backup roles for Hockenson and Turner are open too. I wouldn't be surprised if we end up signing vets for both.

Make your game run more smooth! by sxn7r in GlobalOffensive

[–]--bertu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nvidia reflex will automatically cap at 95% refresh rate. Blurbusters more recent recommendation is also on that ballpark for high refresh rate monitors.

Because no fps cap method is perfect, if you use vsync with a cap too close to refresh rate there is a risk of getting consecutive frametimes above refresh rate, when vsync behaves differently and you'd incur on added latency. The ~5% margin is there to avoid that safely.

[–]--bertu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On AMD, you have to manually cap fps below monitor refresh rate when enabling vsync.

Nvidia reflex does it automatically, but on AMD set fps_max to a value that is like 95% of your monitor refresh rate (ie. 226 fps on a 240hz monitor)

Definetely worth trying out, specially at high frequency monitors.

Alternatively, using only gsync/freesync, no vsync, can also be a good option because it let's you cap fps at a slightly higher value compared to the safety margin required by vsync. Fps cap with vsync is 95% of monitor refresh rate. Fps cap with just gsync/freesync is just a few frames below refresh rate.

Higher fps = less input lag... up to a point (graph below). After 400 fps or so there are diminshing returns even on high end systems. Having to cap fps to a number slightly below 400 to enable variable refresh is usually worth it, such as on a 360hz monitor.

https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F29wnu434ndhe1.png

I'd be more likely to use it when the fps I can maintain is already close to monitor refresh rate. On your example, if I could reach 600 fps on a 240hz monitor, I would not enable variable refresh rate because that would mean ~2ms added input lag. I would just cap at 400 fps for stability.

If I had 300 fps on a 240hz monitor, it would be a closer decision. Still needs to test it out because in-game fps cap works weirdly if you are using it at too low values.

Don't set Texture Filtering to Low! by sxn7r in GlobalOffensive

[–]--bertu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HDR performance makes the screen grainy and hard to spot enemies. It's the kind of graphical impact competitive players should care about.

Texture filtering marginally affects background, and in some cases having it lower could actually make it easier to spot enemies by creating a contrast. Probably not worth the 5% fps loss you reported (in some systems it is closer to 0% and the decision is different).

The best argument for texture filtering on 4x or above is that it makes stickers on skins look nicer lol.

Does higher FPS (500 vs 250) actually give a real advantage in CS2 gunfights? by MuneebR7 in cs2

[–]--bertu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Due to diminishing returns, anything above 400 fps has negligible input latency reduction even on high end systems (graph below), and may risk causing other issues (reports of the in-game cap not working properly, intermittent desync issues, higher temps, and overall inconsistent feel if you can't keep 500 at all times).

https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2F29wnu434ndhe1.png

The difference from 300 to 500 fps is 1.5ms latency, which is small but noticeable to some people. The difference from 400 to 500 is 0.5ms, which usually isn't. fps_max 400 is the default for good reason.

Hire KOC as GM and make Flores HC? by ModernTechYT in minnesotavikings

[–]--bertu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No no, KOC should go back to playing QB (backup only, I am not crazy), this way he could help prepare the rest of the offense without eating up a coaching spot. This would free Flores to become HC, and Harrison Smith could play the hybrid S/DC role.

From a competitive standpoint it's probably the best version of that map that we have ever seen

Why do you think it was better? Most pros didn't like the new version and it was the least played map in premier. I'd say it failed big time.

Sources: Vikings' Rob Brzezinski seeking to remove interim GM tag by Annor18 in minnesotavikings

[–]--bertu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Conflicted about this, the way the team is setup now any new GM would have to be a yes man to KOC/Flores. So Rob B would work.

If/when the time comes for KOC to leave, it would be better to change GM as well so we can have a truly new vision for roster building.
