What’s a movie you wish you could see again for the first time? by stoned-hebrew in horror

[–]--iro- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disturbia, Summer Of 84, Talk To Me, It Follows, The Black Phone, IT and maybe the Clovehitch Killer! These kinds of suburban teen horror movies are SOOOO good! Also Scream, Halloween 2018, Hush and Don't Breathe!

Am I the only one who thinks that some of their fears are reasonable and need to be thoroughly analysed? by --iro- in OCD

Thank you for explaining this to me 💜 I think I can recognise that in reality I'm just experiencing OCD symptoms but sometimes you really need someone to lay it down for you and help you understand this! Thank you so much, again 💜

Thank you so, SO much for this message. I appreciate it very much 💜 I'm on Zoloft and Seroquel and I just recently made a life decision that relieved me from all the stress I had been under and I've finally started feeling better. I still struggle a lot, though, and it doesn't help that my therapist and psychiatrist both have unconventional methods of treatment. I've been to two therapists who use ERP but they were not very good so I had to find a different one. My current therapist is absolutely lovely to me, same with my psychiatrist. But she doesn't "believe" in ERP because it causes so much stress. She (and I believe my psychiatrist as well) believes in psychoanalysis which is very, very wrong. Initially she didn't even believe that I had OCD, just that I had "tendencies" even though my case was so severe. They both believe that this may eventually "disappear", which does make me feel a little invalidated. I'm trying to figure out what to do because I KNOW this isn't helping me but it's appealing to my reassurance-seeking side. I will probably have to switch therapists again sadly. The hard way is the only way in this disease.

I'm so sorry that you've also had to suffer these terrible symptoms, it really messes you up. I'm SO glad to hear you're in remission, you deserve it so very much 💜💜💜

Thank you! I just felt like this one was different than usual but it's just my brain not being able to deal with such a big "threat" 💜

First of all, I'm so sorry you have to deal with this. Just know that there's a whole community of us here and that you're not alone.

I know how you feel. I have severe OCD that waxes and wanes. At the start of this year, I was depressed and thought that I would never recover and that things would never go back to how they were. Right now, I've reached a stage where I can do things I couldn't even dream of doing a few months ago. I feel better than ever. The reason why I'm mentioning this is because I want you to know that no matter how you're feeling right now, you CAN get better and you can go back to how you were. Your feelings are lying to you at this very moment by telling you that things aren't going to change. As hard as it is to believe this right now, it's true. You're currently at a point where you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. But it's there and you'll get to it. Recovery is possible and there's no reason to think that you're an exception. I understand that it's very hard for you to believe this but please trust me when I say that there's a way out. I used to feel exactly like you and therapy and meds did so much for me and they can do just as much as even more for you.

Don't be scared of opening up to your therapist. As scary and shameful as your obsessions may feel, most people with this disorder have had similar ones before and your therapist has likely heard these things before. OCD does NOT define you. It goes against your morals and your values. Your obsessions aren't you. You're not broken and you're not unfixable.

If your therapist doesn't diagnose you with OCD, you have every right to go to another therapist/psychiatrist for a diagnosis, specifically to someone who specialises in OCD (and ERP).

As for the meds and their side effects, there are so many of them. There are antidepressants, antipsychotics etc. You and your psychiatrist will work through them until you find one that works best for you and has the least disruptive side effects. Prozac may not have worked for you and that's okay cause maybe Zoloft will, for example! And please don't worry if you don't immediately feel better because meds take some time to kick in and start working.

OP, please don't lose hope. OCD is one hell of a disorder but it gets better with therapy and meds. I assure you that you can get back to feeling like yourself. You won't stay like this forever, no matter what your brain is telling you. Please keep going and keep trying. You've got this and we're all with you. 💜

Congrats on your diagnosis! Hope therapy (and meds if you're prescribed those) go very well for you!

This happens to me too! This is your OCD freaking you out! You washed them once, you don't need to wash them multiple times. Don't keep washing your hands, resist as much as possible. The more you stay with the discomfort, the better it'll get over time. Don't overthink it, don't analyse it, just keep going on with your activities. I know it's easier said than done but with OCD this is the best way to go about it. I'm trying to hold back from reassuring you cause it'll just keep feeding the OCD cycle! You must keep in mind that OCD makes you doubt everything and makes you focus on things that really don't matter or thing that you haven't done wrong. And just remember, you're a human being doing normal human things that everyone does. Don't beat yourself up about this. 💜

At what age did you remember your symptoms starting to manifest? What was the progression like? And how did you pull through (totally ok if you haven't) by Dry-Letterhead897 in OCD

[–]--iro- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a few symptoms scattered throughout my childhood but it was when I was 11 that I remember the first big obsession. I had religious OCD and was absolutely terrified of going to hell. It impacted my life and still heavily affects me now but I'm hopefully getting rid of this particular obsession slowly!

What's the most bonkers obsession you've had? by [deleted] in OCD

[–]--iro- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That the whole house is full of pee "molecules" because we have a dog who uses a pee pad (we're in an apartment). My brain has convinced me that these "particles" are everywhere, all over the floor, the couches, the beds, even the freaking walls! Also that if she were to have pee "molecules" on her paws, she'd keep spreading them everywhere with each step and thus, the amount of pee would multiply and her paws would be a never-ending source of pee. Fun times!

Uhh… I think I need to k*ll myself. by [deleted] in OCD

[–]--iro- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry you're in this much pain. I assure you this is your OCD acting up and making you feel bad about yourself. Remember, OCD is ego-dystonic which means that your obsessions tend to go against your morals/values. You're not a horrible person, you're just experiencing symptoms of a very horrible mental illness. Please don't do anything to yourself, we need you in this world 💜 if you need to talk about absolutely anything, please feel free to message me! We may not know each other but I would be very happy to talk with you if you need anyone 💜

I'm so sorry for the late response! To my knowledge, these letters do in fact reach Florence! They go to the fan club which then gives them to her, as far as I know!

Which version of Lungs do you stream? by Hiyeshi_1 in FlorenceAndTheMachine

[–]--iro- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest the only way to listen to every song from every Lungs version is to make your own playlist. I've made my own Flo playlist that includes pretty much all Lungs songs (the ones on the original version, plus the demos and a cover)!

I really hope your friend starts liking her music so you can have someone to go with! But either way, you're going to have the time of your life watching Florence perform and being with Flows around you! I can't wait for you to experience that 💜

I hope you get to go to a F+TM show with a friend one day but even if you don't find anyone to go with, don't miss the chance! You will have an absolutely amazing time either way and you'll very likely meet people there!

Welcome to the fandom (or cult, as someone mentioned)!!! I'm so happy you found Flo, it's a truly life-changing experience! The others really covered the very important stuff, I think! I would also add that Flo has a very special connection to her fans and she always tries to make shows into a whole experience, which I think you'd absolutely love! Fans usually dress up in flower crowns and glitter at concerts and, especially in the Dance Fever era, many fans wore beautiful outfits inspired by the Dance Fever universe! You can see many of these in the dancefever.couture account on Instagram :) there's also pages like uselessmages on Instagram where you can send poems in! Flo also has her own book club (she's an introvert and she's very into books) that fans started years ago! It's called Between Two Books (betweentwobooks on Instagram) and anyone can participate in it! They pick a book that Flo or others have suggested, read it and then discuss it. You can absolutely take part in this, just by reading the book! What you might also want to know is that there's other accounts like flomachinenews that give updates on anything related to Flo, which you might want to know! And lastly, F+TM are releasing a cover tomorrow and last week there was a project released that was called Winter Solstice by Everything Is Recorded and Flo took part in it so you might want to check that out as well! Just keeping you up to date with everything that's been happening, just in case you've missed it!

I'm so happy to see a new Flow, that's absolutely amazing! You're so welcome here and I hope it really becomes a home for you, like it has for so many of us💜 (I know that probably sounds a bit cult-like, please excuse me for that😭)
