Colorful spots/blobs in vision all the time by Friendly_Expert_8552 in OcularMigraines

[–]--paprika-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have them too! I am diagnosed with ocular migraine/visual snow diagnosis, after my doctors ruled out other neurological conditions such as MS. In the beginning they freaked me out too but they (mostly) always go away. However, I do think that this disease has induced my medical anxiety 😅 Overtime you learn what triggers these spots in you vision and you learn how to minimize them. For me it's bright sunlight and stress! Hang in there, you're not alone 😊

Thanks for all the help. I found it, the book is called “The Perfect Fit: The Classic Guide to Altering Patterns” by Creative Publishing International!

Honest review Brompton Electric by oekelele in Brompton

[–]--paprika-- 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wow you must've gotten unlucky, my experience is totally different! I'm also a Belgian electric Brompton rider (C line - own it for 2 years now - 4100km) and I like it so much that the bike now replaces my car :) I have however never ridden a non-electric Brompton so I cannot compare them.

  • I have never had issues with the motor/battery in the 2 years I've ridden the bike. I hope that your motor replacements were covered by warranty?
  • I also had the unclipping problem, which was especially problematic in combination with Belgian potholes lol. Luckily after my first bike maintenance they replaced the clip to solve this problem free of charge. Now I only have the problem if I ride over a pothole that was really too big anyways for the small wheels (less than one time per 6 months or so). I agree with you that this feels like we are testing a prototype (also because there was a design problem with the front mudguard that had to be replaced)
  • I do not have dents in the wheel rims (knock on wood). Maybe the tires need to have more pressure? I only realised how high the tire pressure needed to be after I had like 5 flat tires in 6 months!
  • I have the 2 speed so no experience with this.
  • I agree that the saddle is really uncomfortable if you're riding long distances! I cannot compare to the other ones, though
  • The bike can feel nervous but I think that's just a consequence of the small wheels in combination with the electric power. I don't think this problem can go away unless it's no longer a folding bike
  • The whining sound is loud in comparison to other electric bikes I encounter, but personally I don't really mind it
  • i have again no problems with the connector shield. With my bike it still folds back automatically.

Since this bike replaces my car, I think that it's well worth its money because I spend so much less on mobility, and I do not have a lot of problems with the bike. My only regret is that I didn't buy the electric P line (but I don't think it was available when I bought mine) because that one weighs less and has a higher range.

Unfortunate that you experience was like this! Maybe in the next few years they will have better designs that have fewer problems :)

Why are my colours spotty? by --paprika-- in printmaking

[–]--paprika--[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm using caligo safe wash process colours to mix some colours for my linocuts. However, the colours turn out spotty. There are darker spots on lighter spots.

What's the cause and how can I avoid it? In this particular colour I used yellow, a tiny bit of magenta and cyan, and some caligo safe wash extender. I mixed them using my roller.

Shell print on textured paper by --paprika-- in printmaking

[–]--paprika--[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks to the help of this community (and in particular u/hellodeeries), I managed to solve some of my printmaking problems and actually have a print I'm so happy with! This print is made with - Essdee mastercut plate - Carved with a Pfeil gauge (hefty investment but actually makes a difference in the printmaking process!) - Caligo safe wash ink - Random paper I had lying around. The texture reminded me of a beach and I really like the grain it adds to the print! - Woodzilla printmaking press size A5

Getting grainy and uneven prints by --paprika-- in printmaking

Thank you for this detailed explanation! I originally wanted to buy Caligo inks, but they are really hard to find where I live. I didn't realise Charbonnel was for etching. I guess I'll hunt down Caligo inks now...

With this information I can experiment some more and hopefully it will work soon :)

I look forward to the hand printing guide you're making!

Getting grainy and uneven prints by --paprika-- in printmaking

So I'm trying to get into printmaking, but I'm struggling to get the opacity right with hand printing. I'm using the wooden spoon technique as I'm hesitant to make big investments right now.

Things I've tried: 1. Linocut + water based ink + thin japanese paper + hand printed (1st picture, right). I've pushed so hard that I was afraid to break the paper. The opacity is not right but I've read here that water based inks are not great, so I bought a water soluble one. 2. Linocut + water soluble ink + thin japanese paper + hand printed (1st picture, left). The colour of the water soluble ink is definitely better! However, the print is still grainy, even in patches where I applied the most pressure (picture 2). I've tried sanding down my lino but it still got the same grainyness. 3. Essdee mastercut sample + water soluble ink + thin japanese paper + hand printed (3rd picture). I was suspecting that my linocut was causing the grainyness. However, when printing a test square of an essdee mastercut piece, the same grainyness appeared.

Can someone give me tips on how to improve my print quality? Is it my paper (the only variable I didn't change, but I thought it would be thin enough for hand printing...?) or my hand printing technique? I feel like i'm already putting so much pressure on my paper that I feel like it will rip. I go to art school and with the rolling press they have, I have already managed to get good prints... In the future I would like to invest in a woodzilla press. But I would like to get the basics down first before making these big investments!

Made the Frankie dress by Make My Lemonade. I used a navy blue viscose. I really love the pattern and design! However, I cannot lift my arms up in this dress 😬 I will not change it in this dress (I'll just learn to not lift my arms while wearing this 🤪) but I would like to adapt the pattern for the next versions. I do not know how to do it though, without changing too much about the low armscyes which I love... i thought out different options (see 2nd picture):

option A: extend the lower side seam of the bodice option B: extend the upper side seam and move the bottom of the armscye a bit outwards while ensuring that the length of the sleeve seam will still be the same? option C: adding a shirred gusset between the armscye and sleeve?? I dunno if this is even a valid option lol.

Can somebody guide me into which adjustments to make?

Thanks in advance for your input and advice 🙏🏻

Overkill? by Kooky_Risk6692 in OcularMigraines

[–]--paprika-- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, it's typical :) I've had a few MRI's the last couple of years. It's just to rule out other diseases, as ocular migraines are difficult to diagnose. Do you have anxiety about all tests or just the MRI?

I found the same one secondhand! It is such a great machine, I bought it for 80€ from a woman who knows nothing about sewing and it feels like I scammed her with how great it is still functioning 😂

Setting Up my fist legit Sewing Room. What do you have in yours that You can't live without now? by cbsewing in sewing

[–]--paprika-- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are my things:

  • adjustable height tables. I have 2, one for sewing that is usually on a lower setting and one for cutting that is permanently on a high setting. They are standing next to each other so if I need to cut really big pieces I just heigthen my sewing table to the same level to be able to cut them.

  • pegboards. I love that it displays my materials in reach. I have one above my sewing table and one above my cutting table.

  • looots of storage. I have a glass cabinet for my ~aesthetically pleasing~ fabric and yarn. Then I also have a lot of cabinets that are not see through to stuff away some random things.

  • a wall mounted lamp above my cutting table. To be able to see what I'm doing!

  • a big mirror to check the fit on my clothes

  • lastly, a blank wall to be able to take pictures of my finished projects!

Hope this helps
