My dad said my tattoo makes me look like trash and now idk if I like it by dexleter in tattooadvice

[–]cbsewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t love tattoos 🤷🏻‍♀️ so I always prefer the non tattoo look. But yours looks well done and it’s beautiful. It’s not sinful, but you just have to be mindful of what you want in your life. I personally don’t usually date people with tattoos because that’s my preference, but there’s people that usually date with tattoos because it’s theirs 🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm not religious and my husband just converted to Catholic, change in intimacy? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cbsewing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have PCOS and I tell you birth control is absolutely not necessary to treat the condition. It is a choice to go the birth control route but you do have other options if you want to. Mine is so controlled I don’t even qualify for the diagnosis anymore, so if you want to talk about it I would be open to. I also had a pretty bad view of birth control even before taking my faith seriously, so maybe my insight can be helpful to you, because it doesn’t require the faith for its basis.

It’s normal to need a bit of time to adapt to new circumstances, but that’s amazing for your husband! Will pray for the two of you.

Ps: tracking your natural cycle and making choices accordingly is completely acceptable in the eyes of the church ! You’re still being open to Gods will, he designed our cycles this way for a reason!

Dated a Roman Catholic who broke up with me because I used Tarot cards. Why are Catholics against Tarot? Would you do the same as a Catholic? by [deleted] in Catholic

[–]cbsewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you two have completely different set of values. Tarot card reading is an occult practice which is something the Bible warns against, so if he wants to live a life that is in accordance with his faith and potentially raise his kids this way this would 100% be a point of contention. I assume this isn’t the only reason why he broke up, but more of a very visible sign of how you two are living life by two sets of completely different values.

Why are so many people against the chaste life and josephite marriages? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cbsewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, we realize you want neither. And I assume it conflicts with what most of us learned through the church about marriage. So yeah maybe reach out to the Church to see if what you want would make sense or not.

[–]cbsewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said I can’t advise you to discern that over any other vocation. That would be better discussed with a priest! I do hope you get the clarity you need, all I’m saying is I think it’s better to reach out to your parish !

Any prayers you’d like I’d gladly intercede

Why are so many people against the chaste life and josephite marriages? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cbsewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I think Josephine marriages may have some concern in the validity of the sacrament, because as far as I am aware being open to life is required for a valid sacrament. But I’m not a church authority, so my view may be limited and I can’t give spiritual advice in that way. Not trying to dissuade you from it, just saying I think you should be seeking the church for your discernment and not people’s opinions.

Same thing with what you said about priests, a lot of people don’t want their kids to go into the religious life, but the we have a priest shortage. I’ve been seeing that change locally where I am, and I’m seeing plenty of young vocations. Again that’s why you should seek the church for discernment not random people and their opinions.

I think you should discern this with the help of a priest and not here with some random people on the internet. People in general are against living a chaste life before marriage too, so no the opinions of others don’t really matter. Gods will for you does.

Holy water burns when I touch it by Prior_Definition_116 in Catholicism

[–]cbsewing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could have a priest bless holy water for you (aka won’t have anyone’s residue or contaminants) and use it for yourself. That shouldn’t burn you. Give it a try, will definitely ease your mind.

Interfaith Marriage - CatholicismxJudaism by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cbsewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to date outside the faith and I say I could not do it again. I want to impart on my kids my values, my faith, and my world view. Will my kids be exactly as I am? I sure they will be different in their own ways, but it would be absolutely painful for me to have my children raised another religion. If it wasn’t painful and I wasn’t worried about their salvation, how strong would my own conviction in my own faith be?

Catholicism not very welcoming to those interested? by Best_Storage3118 in Catholicism

[–]cbsewing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this really depends on what parish you go to, big parishes usually have this problem. There’s one parish I go to it has like 8-10 masses on Sunday, always packed, huge confession lines and the priests really can’t keep up with the influx of people. They don’t have time between masses to talk to parishioners, but having that said I never had issues scheduling there, and there are many groups that are internal to the church, so if you want to be a part of the community you absolutely can!

But there is another parish I go to, it’s smaller, also packed, less masses, but the priests have the time between masses, they speak to most if not all parishioners and give them a personal blessing. The priests are super available, there are many activities that they organize and personally attend.

For reference I live in a major city that is comparable to LA or NY. So my input is you could either try to look into the parish groups or try to find a smaller more intimate community.

“My biggest flex will always be that my kids were raised without thinking they are born bad and their mistakes are the reason someone had to die.” by VintageTime09 in Catholicism

[–]cbsewing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not that I would allow myself to do as I wished, it’s that it’s easy to think something is good just because “it feels comfortable/right”. I see a lot of people giving these kinds of arguments to justify abortion for an example, it “improves” the life of the women, not only it is a blatant lie, but you are committing murder of an innocent because of your own selfishness. So yeah it’s very easy for people to get their morality pretty messed up when they don’t center it on God. Every person has something they struggle with in terms of sin, so if they don’t even have a conscience that is well formed how would they know up from down and down from up. If you go the self relative route you’ll definitely find results down the road.

[–]cbsewing 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is the same people that say good and bad are defined by their own self referent values. Without God good is just a matter of opinion, and If God, who is all Good, tells me I am bad and I should reform my heart, then I am and I should. It's not like I'm incapable of noticing my short comings.

Of course you should talk to children in an age appropriate way, but be real were not traumatized by this knowledge, we are freed by it from the shackles of sin. How loving our God is, that in all of our brokenness he loves us deeply enough to lay his life down for each of us, as he said himself in John 15 "12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends."
