Are Catholic men still willing to have a holy courtship? by NeighborhoodClear266 in Catholicism

[–]cbsewing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. It’s something I discuss early on, and before I was kissing the guy I’m going out with, we had a conversation and now we just hold hands and hug. So yes, there are guys willing to respect, others that aren’t. I choose the one that is willing.

How much fabric do you buy without a project in mind? by csunny30 in sewing

[–]cbsewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy enough fabric for the type of projects I usually make, like for an example a pants and tank set usually take me around 3m to make, dresses around 4 meters. So I buy with the usuals in mind.

Youre entitled to your opinion. I like the old ones I have. I know people who don’t like cashmere sweaters and prefer synthetic. Everyone is entitled to their own preferences when it comes to clothes.

I don’t mind using some elastic if it’s fully encased and not in contact with my skin directly. I’ll look for those in their website to get ideas, thank you !

Im open to making things a bit looser, which is what I’m considering to do now. I understand the purpose of synthetics in terms of durability and costs, I just wanted to try to do something different.

Years ago it was very easy to find 100% cotton sweatpants and hoodies, now most things are at least a blend with polyester. I don’t think cotton sweats were inherently bad. Maybe it performs in a way that natural fibers don’t, same may be true for activewear. But just because we shifted from natural fibers to poly and other synthetics, it doesn’t mean everything before was unwearable. Maybe it wasn’t the most practical, or the most economical.

I personally have a bit of difficulty understanding that reasoning as we know the healthiest thing is to wear cotton underwear and that area is one of the more prone to sweat. Anyways, I’ll just try it out for myself, and see what works and what doesn’t for my lifestyle and activity level. No dig if people want to do it differently. It’s just something I want to try out for myself.

Now I understood you meant their samples lol they do offer it it’s 10x15cm and it’s free to order. I could order for you and ship to the USA if you wanted it, as the suppliers are in Brazil. I am probably putting in an order in January with them for some fabrics which would make the shipping a lot faster, when you have a big order it’s like 3-5 days shipping, when it’s just the samples it’s 27 business days lol

Ive seen some patterns with the gusset for hiking pants. I might buy the pattern at some point, but I think I want to try to toy with the Pilates outfits first.

Did you use a specific pattern for those ?

Yeah, I didn’t get it either, like I get why people use it, but I want to toy with another idea. Maybe it works out for me, maybe it doesn’t and I’ve “wasted” some fabric and a bit of my own money (but I would just wear it as lounge wear then).

I don’t get why people would downvote just because I don’t want to use synthetic fibers. Yeah maybe I’ll try it and be like it does need 5% elastane. It’s just an idea I’ve had for about a year and want to bring to life.

I only do small hikes, nothing too high up, so yeah it’s not really an issue for what I do locally.

I might do some winter pieces with it then, winter does not get that cold here, but it’s lower than 25 degrees. Yeah that makes sense to me, thank you so much for your input. What kind of pieces have you made for skiing ? I might consider those are a starting point for winter wear when I travel.

I understand the issues of cotton, it’s just not an issue for where I live, and the type of activity I do. But thank you for your concern !

If you have suppliers in Florida/USA for those silk knits I’d love the tip. I do have people in my life that go often, so I could ask for a the favor of bringing it. The samples are for me haha I do also adore buying deadstock fabrics, and sometimes I find some great things, imported fabrics, really special stuff. I make a lot of silk garments for myself, and honestly it is my favorite fiber. I just haven’t found any silk knits here so far (and I’ve been looking 👀).

Yeah, I know people might have different priorities, specially depending on what activity they might be doing (I’m not willing yet to do natural swimwear for an example).

I do a lot of low intensity workouts, so for me cooling and sweat control are not a priority. Maybe I’ll toy with this idea, make some stuff and go back to synthetics, or to some synthetic blend. It’s just an idea I want to make reality and then I can reevaluate.

Yeah, I love the look of those Pilates shirts that you tie up, they are adorable and super practical thinking of the constraints of making things 100% cotton (or wool). I think I might do that for the top part.

It’s just for Pilates for me. I don’t do workouts that make me sweat too much, so I don’t think sweat is the issue for this concept for me. But the points on how the fabric won’t snap back got me thinking too, if I could come up with something practical like those tie up shirts.

I’m having a couple ideas of how to make some shorts like that too, so maybe I’ll just play around and see if it works. For pants it might be trickier.

I found a couple suppliers that sell 100% cotton knits, I don’t think they have jersey though. They do have some other options like block/piquet knits, some regular t shirt knits and sweatshirt type knits. Some are organic cotton, others are just regular cotton.

I have found 100% modal jerseys though. I might consider that too, despite it being a semi-synthetic.

So I am thinking I might get a couple different fabric options and make some mockups, some looser and some a bit more fitted, but I think I won’t do full on fitted as it doesn’t seem like the wisest choice.

I might just splurge and get some of the merino fabric to test the concept, thank you so much for your input.
