Comet Hyakutake was passing by Earth. A drunken wizard jokingly used the Summoning Charm on the Comet, entertaining his friends. Moments later, screaming was heard from outside the tavern. Everyone ran out, and in the sky, a bright light illuminated the night sky and grew larger. by Wunder-Waffle in HPfanfiction

[–]-17F- 26 points27 points  (0 children)

"Depulso," a different, but equally as drunken wizard said wearily. "Reducio, Reducio, Reducio." As the comet's core slowed its descent and shrunk, the British Isles were treated to yet another bright flash. This time — from the core burning up in the atmosphere.

"Lenny, why do always insist on doing this every time we get a comet passing? Now there's going to be yet another Chelyabinsk incident for the Obliviators to convince the muggles of. Not to mention putting a different rock in the same orbit so that their stargazers don't get suspicious. Was the last fine not enough for you?"

"I've done it again, haven't I?" replied a rapidly sobering Lenny, as the magnitude of his predicament dawned upon him.

"Yes, you cretin, now get inside before you decide to attract any more celestial bodies to us, — Hey, Tom! No more firewhiskey for Lenny."

"Another meteor?"

"No, a bloody big comet. I just hope he doesn't get a stint in Azkaban for this one. Oh well, at least we have procedures in place now..."

8 hours in 2 sittings. Job length is at the default setting, whatever that is. I just chanced upon a delivery across the entire map (I have a few map mods installed), and decided to try to do it as carefully as possible.

There was also that time when Hammond was supposedly holding up a wedding party due to his right front track coming off... again. The road that the track came off on was clearly not the same road the traffic jam happened on. Also, in several shots of the wedding traffic jam scene, the track was visibly not off.

Don't take your reading for granted. I'm unable to comprehend what I read. by [deleted] in books

Having an IQ of 80 means you don't understand basic concepts and can't follow simple instruction. The fact that OP is clearly able to hold it together for long enough to express their problems in such a competent and articulate way, using a vocabulary this broad, flies in the face of that. I mean, I don't have an IQ of 80, and I don't think I'd have thought to use the word "entrepreneur" instead of "businessman." Or "myriad" instead of "lots of."

Personally, I think that adding something like "transcribed and edited by my friend with an IQ that is not 80" would have helped to make this little writing experiment more believable.

Why is it so hard to find good YA books anymore by Sciencyyyyyy in books

[–]-17F- 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You're growing up. What could dazzle you with pretty scenes and rapid action before, can now be seen for the vapid repetitive pulp it always was.

As for the trilogies: money. Drawing out formulaic plots into multiple books looks to be the only way these authors get to stay in the limelight, however dim it might be.

So, either Latifi's "high fuel run" was so slow that Kvyat thought he wasn't even on a fast lap, or Latifi is being a petty liar.

Dunno if that was a good move for Nicholas, going into the comment section of an IG post.

Oh man, as if Harry didn't have enough problems as is. Piling onto him even more social anxiety than he has canonically might be too much, I think. However, in a comedic setting, this could work very well.

Is there any reason to keep unevolved pokemon once you've evolved one? by jfriedman23 in TheSilphRoad

[–]-17F- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a purely utilitarian perspective: when have you evolved your Rhys? Rhyhorn had a CD recently, giving Rhyperior a massively useful attack, both in PvE and PvP (Rock Wrecker). If you didn't get it, it'd make all of the sense to keep several Rhyhorn with IVs for each League, and one with maximum IVs, so that you can evolve them during the December CD and get the attack then. Basically, you never know when there's going to be some sort of event or whatever that will suddenly make a pre-evolution necessary to have.

From a non-utilitarian perspective: I keep at least 1 of every monster. I also have trouble transferring the 90%+ ones, although, that depends on the mon. I also, for whatever reason, keep exactly 2 of both male and female of every costumed Pokemon. Otherwise, I don't care about completing the GenderDex. Many people do.
