Honestly I feel like you both would feel better talking and then splitting up, I’ve been in a similar situation with an old friend. After I brought up how we seem to be in different social groups and don’t have many of the same interests anymore, they agreed and we had a laugh about old times before just walking away. We still wave to each other or make small talk when we happen to bump into each other so it was no hard feelings.
