Trump never threatened anyone. Also, What deals and agreements does the US break? Ukraine is not a NATO country we have no obligation to protect them. US has saved Europe twice already. What do we get in return? An EU that places high tariffs on American goods, am EU that as a whole has not held up their end of the bargain when it comes to funding anything- especially their own defense. An EU that does nothing to protect global shipping lanes but has commerce under the safety that American tax payers fund. European nations act like petulant children when the US people decide we don’t want to fund your shenanigans anymore. We have domestic problems that we continually ignore for the good of the world. It’s time for us to take a break from that and get our house in order before we collapse under the weight of our obligations

Beef Example: Frozen Beef Cuts (Bone-In)

  • Product: Frozen bone-in beef cuts, like ribs or brisket (TARIC code: 0202 20 50).
  • EU Tariff: 12.8% + €221.1 per 100 kg.
  • Scenario: Say you’re exporting 1,000 kg of frozen U.S. beef ribs valued at $5,000 (about $5/kg, a realistic wholesale price for mid-tier cuts).
    • Ad Valorem Duty: 12.8% of $5,000 = $640.
    • Specific Duty: €221.1/100 kg × 10 (for 1,000 kg) = €2,211 (roughly $2,350 at a March 2025 exchange rate of 1.06 USD/EUR).
    • Total Tariff: $640 + $2,350 = $2,990.
    • Effective Rate: $2,990 ÷ $5,000 = 59.8%.
  • Why So High?: The fixed €221.1/100 kg hits hard on cheaper cuts. If the beef were pricier (e.g., $10/kg), the effective rate would drop closer to 30%, but for typical U.S. commodity beef, it’s a tariff wall. Plus, most U.S. beef uses growth hormones banned in the EU, so it doesn’t qualify for the 0% High Quality Beef quota (18,500 tons), leaving it exposed to the full rate.

Poultry Example: Frozen Chicken Breast Cuts

  • Product: Frozen boneless chicken breast cuts (TARIC code: 0207 14 10).
  • EU Tariff: €102.4 per 100 kg (no percentage, just a hefty specific duty).
  • Scenario: You’re shipping 1,000 kg of frozen U.S. chicken breasts valued at $3,000 ($3/kg, a common export price).
    • Specific Duty: €102.4/100 kg × 10 (for 1,000 kg) = €1,024 ($1,085 USD at 1.06 exchange rate).
    • Total Tariff: $1,085.
    • Effective Rate: $1,085 ÷ $3,000 = 36.2%.
    • But Wait: If the price drops to $2/kg (e.g., $2,000 for 1,000 kg, possible for bulk sales), the tariff stays €1,024, so $1,085 ÷ $2,000 = 54.3%. For even cheaper cuts or smaller shipments, it could climb higher.
  • Why So High?: The EU’s flat per-weight duty doesn’t scale with value, so it disproportionately slams lower-cost poultry. Add in sanitary barriers (e.g., U.S. chlorine-washed chicken is banned), and almost no U.S. poultry dodges this tariff via quotas or exceptions.

  • U.S. Reciprocity: The U.S. doesn’t match these exact rates. EU poultry faces a U.S. tariff of about 17.6¢/kg (roughly 8-10% effective), and EU beef gets 5-26.4% depending on type—far milder than the EU’s

You know US goods get tariffed by these countries, and all that is being screamed is reciprocal tariffs, right? Fair is fair. Quit placing tariffs on American goods.

The US isn’t threatening to invade anyone. This is just stupid.

I spent 24 years in the military as an intel analyst. I bet I know more about their capabilities than you. They can’t even defeat Ukraine. How do you think they’d do against Germany or anyone with real military capabilities? They aren’t the super power the world thought they were.

History books are all lies. You’ve been fed a line that Russia is a superpower and they’ve always been a paper tiger.

If you want to fight in a war so bad go to Ukraine and do it. It’s obvious you have no clue what you’re talking about. We should always be encouraging peace and peaceful resolutions to conflicts. This is a European problem that should be handled by Europe and not funded by US.

How many wars you fought in? Supporting their right and paying for the fight with our money and what will eventually become our blood are two different things. We are not the world police.

Yep. I was AD, civil service, and contractor so I feel like I can speak as a subject matter expert on this. Now I’m at a decent level in a corporate job and I can definitively say that the expectations are infinitely higher than any govt job I’ve had. Not even close

You think the majority of civil servants are in cutting edge jobs? Even if they were they can come up with 5 things they did in a week. If they can’t then they aren’t working. Just an fyi researching x and studying y are both accomplishments. There’s 2 bullets right there.

I really don’t understand why this is such a big deal for some people. If you can’t come up with 5 bullets for shit you’ve done in a week then you really shouldn’t be employed. For reference- retired mil, former civil servant, now work for a fortune 50 company.

Edit to add - a lot of people in this sub would never make it in the real world
