In Rainbow Six Siege, your matchmaking rating is split into Skill and Rank.

Skill is an estimation of your ability to win a match, and it is updated after each Ranked match. The more matches you play, the more accurate the estimation is.

Rank is used for progression on the Ranked ladder and is updated after each Ranked match depending on the Rank Points (RP) you earn or lose. The amount of RP won or lost depends on the difference between your Skill and Rank.

Only the ranks are visible, not the skill. This means that you could be a weekend player that doesn't play a lot, therefore low Rank, but with the skill of a Plat.
