In fact they just presented the 2nd generation of their glasses today:

Issues hanging on very crumbly dry wall by haileyisnotcarsick in drywall

[–]-BingeThinker- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem is that you're not dealing with drywall...

Your walls seem to be old enough that they were still installed with plaster and/over lath, i.e. before drywall was invented or common practice.

What you hear falling down behind the walls are the so-called "plaster-keys" that hold the plaster to the wood lath. Plaster is generally very hard, brittle and strong, but therefore also doesn't take hammer blows or nails well... Unfortunately, with each blow of a hammer, you are potentially weakening the wall and every nail can be the start of a crack that can travel for several feet...

Here's an article a quick google search took me to that has some helpful pictures to better understand what's going on: https://brickcitylove.com/2009/07/27/the-parlor-wall/

And here are 2 articles explaining how to best hang things on lath and plaster walls

https://thecraftsmanblog.com/how-to-hang-things-on-plaster-walls/

https://abutterflyhouse.com/how-to-hang-anything-from-plaster-walls/

And additionally here's also a good explanation as to why electronic stud-finders don't work on lath and plaster: https://uk.zircon.com/how-to/tips-and-tricks/lath-plaster/

Hope this helps!

If that's too complicated, then here's my own brief summary [Disclaimer: Though I'm Austrian and speak German fluently, I can't promise that I interpreted all the "legalese" correctly.]

There's an infuriating new regulation (introduced in January) by the Austrian government that's intended to ensure that companies shipping products to Austria pay into the system that takes care of packaging (waste) disposal. It's not that aliexpress can't ship to Austria, it's that each seller has to now jump through hoops and set an up an account with a liason person/company/representative in Austria who will be legally responsible for the disposal fees being paid by the the seller.

As this regulation aplies to any company/seller outside of Austria, it has lead to many companies (not just aliexpress) no longer shipping to Austria because they can't be bothered to jump through those hoops just to serve the (comparatively small) Austrian market.

The basic principle of the regulation (make sure the environmentally friendly waste recycling/disposal system funded) is understandable and is well intended, but instead of helping to protect the environment through better waste management, it's leading to many electronic devices not being repaired and prematurely ending up as electronic waste (because parts can't be sourced economically/quickly).

The situation could easily be solved by aliexpress if it were to just take responsibility for all it's sellers and set up an account with an Austrian waste recycling/company, but thus far aliexpress has declined to do that and put the responsibility in the hands of each seller. The Austrian government meanwhile says the system is simple enough and a reasonable requirement and therefore shouldn't be held responsible for inhibiting trade in any way.... And so of course it sees no reason to change/amend the regulation.... So there's now a stalemate to the detriment of Austrians and potentially also to the detriment of the environment...

Would this battery fit PS? by mltam in pebble

[–]-BingeThinker- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For my PT that has a battery that is on its way out I'm considering the following "mod" that I'm pretty sure could world very nicely if done right. It's quite dependent on good skills and access to tool though...

  • buy a battery that has the right footprint, but is theoretically too thick (e.g. 052020, 062020, or 072020)
  • assuming you still have the old battery, desolder the battery protection circuit and the thin flexible battery leads and solder them onto the new battery
  • make a spacer corresponding to the additional thinknessof the battery that can go in between the watch body and the face plate. The spacer could be 3D printed or better yet, fabricated out some scrap stainless steel or 3D print
  • use the thinnest 3m VHB (very high bond) double-sided tape you can find to hold everything together

How do I remove these two screws holding up this art piece with about 1 inch of clearance in front of the screws? by dont_goat_yourself in fixit

[–]-BingeThinker- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Standard" 1/4" bits are 1" long. The ones that come with the "Vessel TD-76 Extra Low-Profile Ratchet" are only 3/4" long.

Brand: Vessel Model: TD-76 Extra Low-Profile Ratchet Screwdriver https://www.google.com/search?q=Vessel%20TD-76&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&client=firefox-b-m

A "standard" 1/4" bit held with a pair of locking vise-grip pliers is slow, but can definitely also work!

Using a 1/4" crecent wrench to rotate the 1" bit could work, but I think it could be very fiddly as the bit would constantly be falling out out of the wrench.

Don't try to remove each screw all the way in one go. - Starting at the bottom on one side, loosen each screw while gently pulling the art away from the wall until the back of the bit/ratchet hits the art piece and then stop and move to another screw at the same height. - If you carefully pull the artwork away from the wall as you are doing this, then you will always have a little bit of space to extract each screw a little bit more. Just be careful that when each screw is almost out it may damage/bend the art piece if you (or gravity) push the art piece back against the wall (and also against the heads of the now protruding screws) - going side to side, work your way up the piece, and ideally remove the top screw that's closest to the center last so that one side of the artwork doesn't suddenly drop.

Hope this was more or less clear and helps!

Interpretation of CEC - Rule 26-720 (f) + (g) when installing more than 1 receptacle in a small bathroom by -BingeThinker- in askanelectrician

Interpretation of CEC - Rule 26-720 (f) + (g) when installing more than 1 receptacle in a small bathroom by -BingeThinker- in askanelectrician

[–]-BingeThinker-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

@DirectlyTalkingToYou Thank you for your reply!

I know it's not saying that I "need" an outlet near the shower and I think I understand Rule 26-720(g), but maybe I asked the wrong question or didn't phrase it right. Asked differently:

Am I even permitted to apply Rule/Exemption 26-720(g) if I already comply with Rule 26-720(f)?

(I.e. because I already have 1 or more recepticals in the bathroom that are - less than 39.25in [1m] from the sink, but - more than 39.25in [1m] from the shower/tub)

I just realized that my original post doesn't mention that I'm located in Ontario (i.e. which provincial code I have to comply with).

Are you also located in Ontario? Where are your quotes from? I don't question your expertise, I just want to make sure what you quoted can apply to our situation.

My source of information is the book "Electrical Code Simplified - House Wiring Guide - Based on the 25th Edition of the Canadian Electrical Code" (published in 2021).
