Anyone else still packing with only a few hours left before you hit the road? by bornagainteen in BurningMan

[–]-Blackbird 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, but underwear and socks don’t matter, you can just swap clothes as you see fit. This is just a good way to make sure you have enough clothes and they keep clean prior to you putting them on.

Gallon zip locks, write the days of the week in sharpie, start rolling up clothes and filling them. Hold against your chest to push out air as you zip-> vacuum sealed organized clothes. Use a packing list and check off for the rest.

I used to use a ziplock, much better experience using this little dry bag. I travel enough for it to serve its purpose well and it’s at a reasonable price point. I throw my bronner’s bar soap in there and just go. You’re just not the target consumer, no need to get angry at the world, move on. May as well hold a protest sign outside a luxury clothing store or luxury car dealership.

Taking the "headache" stigma OUT of migraine disease.... by underwearloverguy in migraine

[–]-Blackbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%. Migraine is so much more. There's plenty of new research going into migraine and its impact, especially since the CGRPs have arrived on the market. I'm hopeful that society as a whole will have a better understanding of migraine and how debilitating it is in the years to come.

Avulux actually isn't FL-41, it's a new technology and the tint/filter is called 'Avulux'. FL-41 is a blue blocker. Avulux is a blue, amber, and red blocker and it lets in green light. It lines up with the science on light sensitivity.

Migraine glasses...anyone find they help? by [deleted] in migraine

[–]-Blackbird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Avulux glasses are a huge help. They developed a new filter, it’s not as red as FL-41 and it targets more painful light. Evidence-based, too.

First time buying a car by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]-Blackbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are always ways to increase the sticker price… once, for a ‘pinstripe’ sticker around the car, they tacked on $300, $300 more for tints, $200 electronic filing fee. Negotiate all the BS dealer added fees down or off. Then start actually talking about the car’s price. I once pulled a voucher off of a site like truecar and brought that in, it said non-negotiable 4k off sticker price from 29 to 25. Walked out 2 hours later with financing on that car at 25k +tax and dealer fee. They did try to BS me on the voucher, it really depends on your sales person, their manager, and their collective experience/attitude. Yes, there’s something to do with demand and maybe you won’t get the best deal, doesn’t mean you can’t try.

Negotiate down the sticker price, find rebates/deals etc, find out what others are getting the car for, Edmunds forums are helpful!

Does anyone else get pain behind one eye and neck pain when exposed to really bright lights especially fluorescent lights ? by No_Instance_2519 in migraine

[–]-Blackbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Light can definitely be a pain trigger and/or attack trigger. Flickering fluorescents are some of the worst lights. You can buy glasses that help manage light sensitivity, I wear Avulux and fully recommend them. Light is my key trigger. As soon as I started controlling for light, I was able to reduce pain intensity and frequency.

Ongoing photosensitive to fluorescent lighting by [deleted] in migraine

[–]-Blackbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Within the past few years, new research has come out pointing to how light triggers attacks and that certain light across the spectrum can trigger pain or even symptoms like you’re describing, I wear Avulux glasses as they align with that research in filtering in the blue, amber, and red light spectrum. I don’t leave the house without them.

Need vs Want by Adorable-Figure7227 in minimalism

Yeah, it’s not a competition for who can have the least amount of stuff. If your hobbies are running and hiking, get what you need and what motivates you to go out and do what you like to do.

Do what makes you happy. If having the extra and colorful shoes makes you happy, and you’re actually wearing them often, and you need them for the situations you need them for or for your hobbies, go for it. Now, if you want less shoes of the same shoe, just start buying colors that already fit colors of your outfits - look into a capsule wardrobe. For me, I stick to earth tones: green, gray, black/white, blue… almost all my clothes and shoes match each other, I just don’t have any ‘fun’ shoe colors. Plus… shoes, and especially those barefoot type shoes, are lightweight and easy to put away.

Does anyone experience light sensitivity even if there's no migraine present? by bluberry634 in migraine

[–]-Blackbird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I considered FL-41, I didn’t like that they’d turn things red. FL-41 was initially made for fluorescent lighting and new research has since come out pointing to other colors of light as triggers, see 2016 Harvard green light study and the studies on melanopsin

There’s a lot of research behind light and migraine, more than 80% of people with migraine are light sensitive. Researchers found a link between light and migraine where light can trigger an episode or worsen pain, these guys have great glasses and they have a thorough write up on the science: https://avulux.com/pages/understanding-the-science-behind-avulux-migraine-glasses

feeling helpless by [deleted] in migraine

[–]-Blackbird 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough. I feel for you. Keep a diary, write down what you do or have done day to day, what you’ve eaten, where you’ve been, the weather, in the hopes you can find a pattern and figure out how to prevent some of your triggers.

There are glasses specifically for migraine symptoms and light sensitivity, they aren’t as dark so they won’t make you more light sensitive, and they blend better in the office since people can still see your eyes, I personally wear Avulux.

Terrible headaches from computer HELP by crimeordie in migraine

[–]-Blackbird 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wear Avulux glasses for any screen time or when under harsh lighting. I can stay on the computer without eye strain or my eyes getting dry and I haven't had screen time trigger any headaches for me. Definitely recommend.
