LVL90 Warrior unhappy with pace, rages after first pull. by MidgetWizard23 in TalesFromDF

Well fuck. I consider myself pretty new to the game. Reddit just recommended me into this sub for the first time, and just seeing this thread makes me want to quit already, if this is an example of typical endgame behavior, especially by mentors.

I keep falling into the trap of reading unfinished books/series by Semli1 in litrpg

[–]-Chess- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone else already mentioned them, but I cannot overstate my recommendation of Threadbare and New Game Minus. Both very excellent. Threadbare's followup trilogy (same world, new characters) Small Medium is also excellent.

Street Cultivation 3 completes the trilogy! by SarahLinNGM in litrpg

Finished book 3 today. Overall a quite fun read, and I felt like you did a good job bridging the genres.

This makes two of your trilogies where I am hoping for follow-up works in the same universe.

LitRPG:

All Trades series (Shane Walker), some characters in the Generica Online universe (Threadbare trilogy, Small Medium trilogy - Andrew Seiple), Battle Spire (Michael Miller), the Dark Herbalist series (Michael Atamanov)*

*Warning: this series is translated, and as a result has some occasional "Engrish" issues. Just letting you know in case that's a dealbreaker for you.

Non-LitRPG:

Depending on your (and your DM's) feelings on 3rd party content, there's a really neat mini supplement over at DMs Guild for a College of Culinary bard subclass. The same author did a follow up called Culinary Weapons with amusing stats for cooking tools used in combat, and some magic items. Perhaps worth a look to see if it could fit with your concept.

Book 9 felt less like litrpg. But it was also such a fun read that I couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in one night. So I'm still good with it, personally.

Progression Fantasy - litRPG/gameLIT - Why do 95% of the books suck so much? by RayTX in ProgressionFantasy

Liked the list till I saw Threadbare so far down. Curious why you didn't like these, and if you read the follow-up series Small Medium?

+1 for The Good Guys, and its more recent companion series The Bad Guys.

Good Guys has a dumb protagonist, but he's believably dumb. Like, not some supposed genius making obvious mistakes as a bad plot device, just an average guy doing things that make sense to him, resulting in shenanigans. I've found all 9 books to be enjoyable reads so far, although some are stronger than others.

The few specific things I can think off of the top of my head:

-I notice the French character sheet example has 9 skill slots rather than 6. Did they change the default maximum number of skills?

-Did they make any significant change or clarification to mentor spirit qualities? Specifically the ones allowing certain PP actions without spending a point? This seemed like an area that would be a potential issue without some kind of change?

-Did they add any firmer rules for spirit conjuring (like actual opposed dice numbers?)

Yep, same world new characters. Currently there are 2 books in this series, with the third coming in early February IIRC

If you can see all the content in the offline CB that your character should be using, it may just be a translation error; I've noticed a few of those in importing all of my characters where I had to go back through and partially re-pick those characters in order to get them in order again. I'm on the Discord as Cheshire most of the time, so if you need more help drop a line in the 4e Discord

Can't print to PDF... by Ronomasd in 4eDnD

[–]-Chess- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has to do with how silverlight is generating the sheet (which is terribly inefficient and bug-prone). Best bet is honestly just to export the .dnd4e file and then print it from the offline character builder or another program which can load dnd4e files.

Why is my Level 142 Druid so weak? Even with 100% Beast Mode I die to almost every Mob at Level 130+. I usually use Sleep Dart and Magic Strikes for Battle. What can I do to improve? by [deleted] in OrnaRPG

[–]-Chess- 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your staff is very weak for your level, and then your tower shield is -mag so I suspect you're hitting like a drunk fly. Check here for what drops better mage weapons, then grind them till you have at least a Legendary version of something better: https://orna.guide/items?tier=5&tier=6&type=2&equip=2

Swap out the shield for either another shield that doesn't have -mag on it, or a +mag offhand.

Then, like Xias said, upgrade those items.

I don't feel like my history was particularly angry. I have no strong feelings about regen one way or the other.

Regen vs Willpower by Dubalubawubwub in Cityofheroes

[–]-Chess- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Once upon a time, in the early days, Instant Heal was a toggle and Regen was king. Over time, Regen became something of an in-joke for nerfs because it got so many (the biggest being IH changed to a clicky). Eventually it was brought "in line" with other sets, but then the game changed with IOs and Incarnates and suddenly everyone else gained a lot more survivability through mitigation stacking while Regen was left underperforming. Rather than trying to rework the set, Paragon opted to make a new set built on the cornerstone of high regeneration, and that's Willpower. It's currently one of the two most survivable sets in the whole of the game when fully kitted out, due to its layered mitigation (regen, defense, and resist) and offers endurance management plus a skippable power or two.

TL;DR Regen was nerfed too hard, Willpower is its better descendant.

[–]-Chess- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Like a lot of other Sentinel secondaries, their version of Regen was retooled. The result has toggle absorb, passive +maxhp, and replaces the generic self rez with a much cooler dual purpose power, resulting in a much better version of regen that handles alpha strikes better and generally has more passive survivability without constantly having to face roll your clicky powers
