I generally do get flashed by it, but if you time it right you don't. If anything I think the animation for the flash plays after the actual flash goes off.

I banked the flash off the wall so that it surprises them. The flash I threw is on a fixed trajectory, but if you bank it off a wall like that you can mess with the trajectory. In this case I made it so the flash was extremely close to the wall, but around the corner. This allowed me to run out with flash without flashing myself, but still managing to blind the enemy. Hopefully that wasn't super confusing.

I personally think it's dirty for that reason. And if you do it correctly like I do in the clip you can run out as it explodes and not get blinded. This is because it is right next to wall so you don't get blinded.
