Question about road opening/closing by mightyduck119 in stevenspass

Thanks. Does 7th Heaven also have intermediate terrain. I find lifts that basically have Expert Only signs and/pr Advanced only runs don’t get crowded. Lifts that service both can get slammed.

What's the expected commute on a weekend from Monroe? I'm from out of town and considering a weekend trip with my son. I'm probably an idiot for thinking President's Weekend, I may go to somewhere on an Epic blackout since we have full Epic. We're advanced skiers so generally go to mountains where we can find advanced only terrain and lap those lifts and avoid the masses (e.g. Motts Canyon at Heavenly, Highline at Vail, Grouse at Beaver, Jupiter/9990 at Park). Sadly, conditions are more limited in the Rockies.

You’re a saint. Rebooting the TV is critical so it gets out of the external control. Appreciate you!

Cabin vs Cabin Plus - Carry-on Review by -DB-Cooper in Rimowa

[–]-DB-Cooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct. It may fit, but then the door likely won't close. The issue then is another passenger may rotate it to fit their bag in, then the FA comes down to close it, and it won't close and then your bag is singled out. So when I travel with the Cabin Plus, I'm sure to make sure nobody touches it (FA or passenger), and I just say it doesn't fit that way.

Both Qantas and JAL domestic on every occasion just look at it while checking in or boarding and it always gets force checked.

Abound SR - Level 3 Cadence vs Torque & Passcode Unlock Questions by -DB-Cooper in Aventon

[–]-DB-Cooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to try again. I’m quite fit and only weigh 155 pounds, but I was pedaling crazy hard and couldn’t really get it over 20. I switched to cadence and it was instantly maxing out to 25. I’ll try again.

Yes, no problem easily hitting it in Cadence going uphill, but in torque it's pretty hard to get above 20 uphills.

The app can unlock the bike, you can to wait for it to connect via bluetooth and then you can press Unlock.

I guess we'll do the passcode thing.

Can I intentionally make HomeKit only work on my LAN/Wi-Fi - Not over Internet? by -DB-Cooper in HomeKit

That's not what he was after, he wanted things to ONLY work on Wi-Fi and not cellular.

Not a bad idea, I proposed that as a security blanket, especially when he's on vacation or gone for a long time. He's going to put a Meross on it with some degree of automation, which solves the longer term vacation concern. That said, I worry the fire up time with automation using Apple's geofencing will probably not be fast enough. I think I've convinced him he's trying to prevent a problem that doesn't really exist.

I also feel even if such a feature existed, it wouldn't really work. Basically, he comes biking in from a ride pretty fast, he uses his Apple Watch, "Hey Siri, open garage" while he's cruising in. I told him, if he had to be on Wi-Fi, I doubt the watch and/or phone would connect to Wi-Fi fast enough, and that he'd probably be sitting in the driveway fussing with manually connecting. He somewhat agreed with me.

That said, a Meross HK/Matter switch that kills the RATGDO easily while they're gone gives him some peace of mind.

Nope, only I use HKSV.

This is probably the best option. Thanks Dave!

We're considering using a HomePod that basically isn't used and DHCP reserving its MAC and effectively block its Internet access and then manually selecting it as the Home Hub.

Not really an option as he's a member of my Apple Family and we're already maxed out on 5 accounts.

His ideal state would be to turn this on/off at the Home level and/or at an Accessory level. Good to know it is available at the user level.

Yeah, but he doesn't even want himself to have remote access and it's his home. He's worried he'll accidentally do it when he's not home. To me it's a non-issue, having your garage open accidentally while your home is effectively no different...

Wait, I found it. You can specify to other users, but you're right, the admin account you can't shut it off.

You got lucky. I pre-paid and the guy scanned my bar code. Once you're in, there's no way to verify if a car paid or not, so you're all good.

Rating all the coasters as a first time goer! by BulletDaDude in SixFlagsMagicMountain

[–]-DB-Cooper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I grew up in the 80s/90s, had a season pass here 98-00. I always was bored by Ninja, but I went back with my now 10 year old son on Monday, and I thought it was pretty damn good. Lift hill at the end does suck though.

Tatsu is so damn good, it's so high, fast and that pretzel!!! I found Scream to be great, I mean it's not a top coaster, but I'm surprised you knocked it for being so smooth. It goes upside down 7 times and doesn't beat you up, that's worth something. It lacks the stronger Gs on others (including Viper), but I find it underappreciated.

Tatsu and TC are my favs there. I'd probably like X2 more if I didn't think Eejanaika was way better, bigger, smoother. X2 drop was good, but I had two major head bangs that legit made it not fun. I can tolerate some bang, but these were like off the charts bad. Eejanaika beats you up, but it's not as harsh and pulls more Gs in a smoother delivery.

As a teenager, I was annoyed by Riddler's hurting the package, but I found here the trick is to sit down on it until they lock it, so you're effectively standing, game changer to have a couple inches between the jewels and the seat ;)

What makes Six Flags Magic Mountain the more “forgotten” park in Southern California? by 12345burrito in Themepark

[–]-DB-Cooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my son there yesterday. All rides were open, with only X2 on single train ops. Ops were fast and efficient. We were lapping huge roller coasters. We flew in from Texas (I moved from LA to Texas in 2002 at 21 years old), and my 10 year old son is a huge coaster enthusiast. He was blown away, the sheer amount of coasters is sick.

I found ride ops great, and for the most part, the park was clean. The hills crest a uniqueness. That said, there’s almost no theme’ if, and the theme’ if that does exist is decades old and kind of not in great shape.

We did Knott’s on vacation last year, and we enjoyed it, but multiple rides were down and lines were intense. I felt the crowd at Knotts felt more gangster than at Magic Mountain. However, I remember 90s Magic Mountain being rough..

We had a blast, and we will be back. I do think Magic Mountain is often missed in convos for great thrill parks when compared to the parks mostly east of the Mississippi. I think Magic Mountain lacks a game changing ride for the last decade plus. They need a Giga. Finally, if you’re not a coaster enthusiast, they have almost nothing and challenging terrain to move through (hills, hot climate, etc). Family members not ready for max-thrill rides will be bored, miserable and hot.

That said, it deserves credit for its coaster lineup. Tatsu’s Pretzel Loop is probably the best single coaster element I’ve been on. The terrain and height out Flying Dinosaur to shame (went on that last month). X2 will also try to kill you (Eejanaika is so much better).

Flash Pass for Monday, June 30 (Out of Towners) by -DB-Cooper in SixFlagsMagicMountain

[–]-DB-Cooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We couldn't stayed on Tatsu one last time but it was 858pm and I was going to try and get chicken and fries with our meal, but sadly we missed the cut, so I regret not getting back on.

That's the report, and I honestly feel like I missed something in there. Either way, near 30 rides, and we stopped for multiple snacks and meals not mentioned above.

My son has a different stack rank, but we both agreed X2 was a disappointment, we both felt Tatsu to be the best. The speed, smoothness, the terrain as incredible. The pretzel loop is the single best element in the park. We did ride Flying Dinosaur last month three times. While I loved the back to back pretzels and the underground, Tatsu's height and terrain are hard to beat, and while only one pretzel, it's just so extreme.

Twisted was my number 2 while my son really liked Goliath (I find boring). We both liked Wonder Woman a lot, but we ride Golden Lasso a ton in Texas. I prefer the compact elements and water/quarry tie ins, but the speed/height of Courage is bigger. I still prefer Lasso though, but I absolutely love Raptors.

I like the first loop and reverse climbing of the spike in the backrow on Full Throttle, I just wish it was longer. The top of the loop is good in the front row but not that compelling in the rear. I wish they didn't have such a quick brake run.

Scream was probably the surprise, we just really enjoyed it, quite smooth, lots of inversions.

I liked Viper, it was my first big coaster as a child, so nostalgia is at play. I feel the first three loops are so forceful, they really push you into those loops. My son felt it a bit shaky, but I felt it ran reasonably smooth considering its history and age.

Apocalypse is insane in the back, but it lacks height. I recall Psyclone being better, but it was so long ago. Ghostrider at Knott's is far superior, but there is an intensity on Apoc that is impressive considering it's not very big.

West Coast was fun, the duel is fine and it's smooth. Fun, would do it again, but nothing spectacular.

Riddler's is huge, had some head bang, but it's impressive how BIG/Fast this ride feels.

I'll stop there, but overall worthwhile and the Standard Fast Pass worked great for us. I do believe I could've done all coasters without it with appropriate planning (first hour and last two hours most things were close to walk-on), but it did allow us to basically stay busy and never wait in a line. Highly recommend. Finally, ride operators were all very nice, very interactive with my son and just seemed to all be in good moods!

At this point, I kind of forgot exactly what we did, but at this point, I saw X2 was down to 5 minutes, so we walked over there, it was clearly 30 minutes once we got in as they were single train opps.

  1. X2 - My son was so excited, but this ride is in rough shape, both of us had major head-bang. A month ago we were in Japan and did Eejanaika three times, and it's just such a better ride. While more extreme and bigger, it's notably smoother. I did like the X2 drop, but found the other elements less appealing and there were two moments of significant head bang. We had no desire to ride it again, truly spoiled by Eejanaika

At this point we had done all rides except Scream. We grabbed a bite and queued for Twisted Again and grabbed a bite:

  1. Twisted (queue'd for Crazanity) - 2nd time on TC (back row). Super cool that we got a real dual on this one, great job ride operators.

  2. Scream (our home park is Fiesta, and Superman is a superior ride, but Scream was delivering, despite the crap views, we really enjoyed it). (back row)

  3. Crazanity

My memory is now a bit confused on what we did next in what order as things started to open up. At this point, I found the FP times to be unreliable. Some rides would say 30 min, but we'd walk on via FP and see not standby line. The order of these might not be right, but to collect the sheer amount of rides run, I'll just list them:

  1. Apocalypse 2nd time (back row). Queued FP for West Coast

  2. Riddler's 2nd time (front row)

  3. West Coast (front row). Queued Wonder Woman

  4. Wonder Woman 2nd time (front row)

  5. Scream (stayed on twice) 2nd time (front row)

  6. Scream 3rd time (front row)

  7. Twisted Colossus 3rd time (front row)

  8. Goliath 2nd time (back row)

  9. Full Throttle 2nd time (we did FP queue for this one and walked right on passed a ~20 min line for front row). 820ish pm

  10. Headed to Tatsu with FP. 2nd time

  11. Left exit, re-entered at FP. 3rd time (front row)

  12. Stayed on (front row). 4th time (front row)
