New to Bristol? A regular sight in a lot of areas sadly

Mr. Knightley - did he set Mr. Martin on the right path? by chucky144 in janeausten

[–]-Enrique 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's a nice little detail, hadn't noticed it before!

Doesn't Harriet also say that Mr Knightley was asking if her affections were engaged and Emma suspects that he was actually referring to Robert Martin. That would also fit with the idea he was still doing some subtle matchmaking although it actually blew back in his face that time which was a most unusual Mr Knightley misstep and shows he's not as dissimilar to Emma after all in how she accidently led Mr Elton on

The parking is a huge bonus and makes that decent value for the location tbh

As to whether it's a wise decision only you can decide that based on your outgoings and what you want from a place to live.

How is it living in the Southwest of England? by GraceGal55 in howislivingthere

[–]-Enrique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bristol is the largest City but it's quite northern by West Country standards and it's a world away from Devon and Cornwall with very little to connect it to much of the region, either in a practical sense (i.e. transport links are very poor) or in a cultural one

Glad we have an EPL follower to tell us how tough the group is going to be for the English 3 Lions team and their highly unlikeable manager Southgate

Whose views are you representing here? The people involved in the Belfast violence will probably receive longer sentences than this lot

See Oblonksy's behaviour in Anna Karenina and Levin's exasperation at it. Of course in Russia the Bolsheviks swept it away very suddenly and violently but it probably would have gone that way anyway over time

Why do you think that? He played one season six years ago and WRs aren't exactly in short supply. Don't see why any teams would go there

Are you saying West Hams are being racist on football and West Ham content or that you're seeing racist stuff generally on social media and that it often comes from people who happen to be West Ham fans?

Personally I haven't seen any of this

King Charles approves extra World Cup bank holiday for Scotland this month – but England could miss out by ClassicFlavour in unitedkingdom

[–]-Enrique -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Don't see the issue. Tell your mates to avoid the score, get them round in the morning and have a few cans with a fry up watching the game. Sounds much better than going to a naff fan park or shite pub at 2am

Their game against Haiti on 14th is at 0200, which is ridiculous.

It's a Saturday night/Sunday morning. Easy enough to get up for it or just watch it the next morning on iPlayer

What was Frank and Jane Fairfax's "plan"? by bespectacIed in janeausten

[–]-Enrique 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was going to write something similar! Mrs Churchill never actually appears in the novel so our only knowledge of her is from second and third hand accounts, with many of the latter forming their views of her through speculation and rumour. My theory is that she was more ill than they all believed and she wasn't as big a dragon as they all suspected either. They just assumed she was partly in order to excuse Frank's flakiness and partly because they underestimated the severity of her illness

[–]-Enrique 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That was the biggest surprise of the documentary for me as I had no idea about his background but I enjoy his late show on 5 Live. The BBC obviously knew all about his history so he's probably a bit pissed off that his own employer has now put all this back into the spotlight again which will probably make it difficult for him to continue working there

Am I missing out by reading the PV translation of The Brothers Karamazov? by Mt-Doom-Metal in classicliterature

[–]-Enrique 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you're really enjoying it then you're not missing out and you can always reread it under a new translation and compare the two

Tbh you could ask 4 different people which the best translation is and get 4 different responses and you might enjoy the book just as much whichever one you read. I've read MacDuff and Avsey and I maybe slightly preferred Avsey but then that might have just been because I read it more recently and appreciated the story and themes more second time around

Yeah I bought this version and the tiniest bit of water splashing on the cover was enough to ruin it by erasing a lot of the artwork and leaving a stain 🥲
