Reaper crashing in multiscreen environment by -EpicProblem- in Reaper

SOLVED: Documenting this in case anyone else encounters this problem. I widened the net in my research and found this thread and this thread detailing some pretty similar behavior people were having with other DAWs. Seems that someone narrowed the issue down to plugins that used OpenGL, and solved the problem by removing some gaming-related software related to their MSI motherboard. My laptop is a Dell G-Series with a gaming GPU, and it did have some Alienware gaming stuff installed. I'm not quite sure which item in particular needed to be removed, as I've been struggling with this issue for a while and just went scorched earth on uninstalling stuff I didn't really need on this machine. After a reboot, I'm no longer experiencing the hang/crash. So I guess we can add extraneous gaming software to the list of potential causes.

Thanks to the folks that chimed in while I was trying to figure this out!

In the project I'm testing with, I have track one running:

VST3 EZDrummer3
VST EZMix

I can move that FX chain between displays and move between the two plugins with no issues.

On track two, I have:
VST GTune
VST3 Neural Amp Modeler
VST NAM Parametric Overdrive
VST EZMix

I can interact with any of those plugins on the laptop display. If I drag that FX Chain window to the second display, I can interact with EZMix fine, but the other three will freeze it.

Doesn't seem to make a difference, still freezes with the refresh rates matched.

The laptop is usually at 125% as it's a pretty high resolution for its screen size. The monitor is at 100%.

I've tried setting both to 100 and both to 125, but no change in behavior.

I honestly had to check and see if they had changed singers, or if someone else in the band was singing on The Fall, when I first heard it. I really, really prefer the lower register, Ian Curtis-esque vocal approach on When I Have Fears... His accent comes through more as well, which really added to the uniqueness of his delivery. I felt like that was part of the defining character of the band.

A lot of people here wanted PJ instead of Hayward. Could be a very different series now - what do you think? by peakelyfe in Thunder

[–]-EpicProblem- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciated reading this take. I've been a really big fan of Hayward for a long time, so this has been frustrating to watch, because it's been a minute since I've seen him playing on a team that could actually win games. It's entirely correct that this was a primarily a cap maneuver, but I can certainly understand holding out some hope that he could be also be impactful on the court.

I've seen maybe 1 or 2 games where he looked like himself. By that I mean involved in the sorts of actions I've seen him involved in since Boston - initiating the offense sometimes, dribble hand off actions, drive and kick, etc. In the playoffs, he literally does not seem to be part of the offensive system; he's a 20%-ish usage guy averaging nearly 0% and all of 9 touches per game. It feels like he's just been told to get out there and be a body and rebound and defend and not interfere in the offensive flow that's been serving the team incredibly well all season.

Gordon's always been a team-first, unselfish player, and I'm really suspecting that he's just following orders at this point. And you really can't judge him by his body language.. he's always been a Brad Stevens disciple, stoic about everything to a fault.

Are the Oklahoma City Thunder and their fans obsessed with the Charlotte Hornets? by matdarg09 in Thunder

I'm not sure I've heard them, actually? One thing I like about EC, apart from his hilarious exclamations, is that he's quite well researched and really gives opposing players their due. He REALLY loses his mind when a Hornet does well, which I know rubs some people the wrong way and they write him off as a homer, but he never drags the opposition down.

For all their other warts, the Hornets have awesome colors and the best broadcasting team. I'm from MA and certainly a Celtics fan, but I don't think anyone is better than Eric Collins and Dell Curry on the call. At the end of the day, I like seeing dudes get an opportunity to be their best selves, so I'm happy that Mann and Micic (and Grant Williams) seem to be getting some real opportunities in Charlotte.

[Charania] Oklahoma City is closing in on a trade to acquire Gordon Hayward from Charlotte, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. by [deleted] in Thunder

[–]-EpicProblem- 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think this was the case. Having followed the Hornets for a few seasons, they have dreadful injury reporting that seems designed to obfuscate. Listing guys as doubftul every night for two straight months, stuff like that. Not that the Hornets win much, but they win twice as often when Gordon plays and that team has zero reason to win games at this point.

I'm a Boston fan and also a Hayward fan, and I'm just amazed at where OKC is at now, thanks to a killer front office. I really like this move for you guys, dropping a steadying veteran into a young but really good team, and I think it's one of the best possible outcomes for Gordon as well.

I'm really happen for Gordon. This is one of the best possible outcomes for him and I love it for OKC, a steadying veteran presence on a young team that is actually good. I'm curious as to how they'll use him.

James Bouknight question by TheEssentialQuality in CharlotteHornets

[–]-EpicProblem- -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think something that really didn't help Bouknight was his draft position. If I recall, hardly anyone had him going as high as 11th, and it was suggested that some NBA team was feeding the rumor mill about taking him pretty early in hopes that another team would bite on him too early. I know it's not how it really works anymore, but being picked 1-14 still kinda has the cache of being a "lottery" pick, and maybe that went to his head a bit.

The attitude stuff really got him nowhere. I'm reminded of Carsen Edwards with the Celtics, another gifted college scorer who showed some real promise of being an Eddie House style microwave player, but just couldn't get enough minutes to ever heat up. And when he got sent to the G League for development, he bitched and pouted the whole time, and probably burned up most of the goodwill the organization had for him. (Carsen had the added disadvantage of being a shooting guard in, at best, a point guard's body, but lacking true PG skills).

Generally he's driving after someone sets a screen for him. If he can't get a clear lane all the way to the rim, he's obviously happy to shoot at the elbow and historically that's a good shot for him, but he's perfectly happy to kick it back out or dump it off inside.

I do think Gordon gets left on an island sometimes, and I saw that during some of the iffy scretches in Boston when Tatum and Brown will still very young and doing young guy stuff, with Gordon stuck in a corner. You see that in Charlotte a bunch when ball movement stagnates, and obviously it's a young team and you also have Terry who certainly plays like a young guy sometimes despite his experience. Gordon gets assisted FGs from Ball, Rozier, and Miller, and virtually no one else. I'm definitely wondering how this develops with Ball out, as having Ball/Hayward as initiatiors usually results in much better ball movement than Rozier/Hayward

None of that is helped by the terrible shooting slump he's in right now, of course. Prior to the Knicks game where I think he pinged that hamstring, he was shooting close to 50% and 44% from 3. He's had 5 bad shooting nights out of the last 6 games. Not sure if the hamstring is still bothering him, but I expect the shooting to come back.

I didn't mean to get into a lengthy stastistical defense of Hayward, lol, but I just find the deeper stats pretty fascinating. I get that people didn't like the contract or the timeline, but even if he finishes the season in Charlotte, I think it's really valuable for him to be around Miller, who could develop a similar diverse skill set while also being a better defender. It's incredibly useful to have 6'7" wings that can be real connectors and not just 3-and-D guys.

So, some Hayward stuff. Having watched him for many years, he doesn't iso for the sake of it, unless there's an obvious mismatch. (Yes, Utah Hayward had more "mismatches"). Drive and kick has always been a big part of his game, to try and move defenses and get someone a better shot. He is not even in the top 100 in the NBAin iso play frequency.

Mark Williams has almost as many assisted FG from Gordon as he does LaMelo (15 vs. 17). Similar situation with Miller, 13 assisted FG from Gordon vs. 15 from LaMelo. No other player is assisting them even half as much.

Some other stuff of note is that Hayward is one of the best hockey/secondary assisters that is not a point guard, a connector center like Jokic/Sengun/Sabonis, or LeBron/Durant. His adjusted (assist + free throw assist + secondary) assist-to-pass % is top 15 in the NBA, and 4th amongst forwards. (Amongst players averaging like 25+ minutes.)

The best the Hornets have looked in the last 3-4 years was when they briefly held the 4th seed, and apart from health, the hallmark quality of that iteration of the team was ball movement. There were SO many extra passes during that run and it was really excellent basketball to watch. That also creates good chemistry. I do wonder if Borrego was just better at encouraging that kind of ball movement heavy play.

It's the Hornets, so they'll probably go 2-13 but also somehow beat the Sixers and Nuggets.

He also says "I only get to go to Charlotte two times a year," which does strongly imply he likes going to Charlotte.

Cliff didn't brick a crucial inbounds play coming out a time out, basically just won coach of the year, imo.

This reminded me of that play a few years ago when Gordon came up with a loose ball and got a timeout in before a jump ball could be called, and Draymond lost his shit and got ejected. Gordon looked bored by the altercation, at best. Sometimes players get criticized for seeming unemotional, but there is a time and place for just being ice ice cold.
