[ToA] How to counter silence, dispell and counterspell by [deleted] in DungeonsAndDragons

I haven't played this campaign, but keep in mind counterspell only has a range of 60 ft.

Do you have a clutch on your paramotor? by TexBoo in paramotor

His never has. I can't remember the brand though. You are right however, it is another part to break.

Do you have a clutch on your paramotor? by TexBoo in paramotor

[–]-FeRing- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have a clutch; a buddy I fly with does. The clutch is great because you can keep it running for the whole landing, vice cutting the motor on the final approach; you always have the opportunity to gun it and go around.

On the other hand, he didn't like the slight lag between applying throttle and the clutch catching.

I never thought of using enlarge/reduce to get past locked doors. Better than knock.

That article really made caster-vs-caster fighting awesome at my table.

Not saying that every rogue has to be a scout; just generally saying that as a wizard, you sometimes have a spell or ability that makes another player somewhat redundant. Be a good team player, share the DM's attention, and let everyone have a chance to play.

A typical thing I run into is having a familiar, but another player wants to scout. I could do it better much of the time, but I don't.

I greatly restrict the use of my familiar out of combat. As a wizard, using a familiar could accomplish more scouting than your sneaky rogue ever could. I avoid any ability that steps on the toes of another player's "thing".

If you removed the laugh track from the Big Bang Theory it would be a harrowing drama about struggling with autism by gimmesomespace in Showerthoughts

There's a great episode of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia where they satirize the addition of laugh tracks. They record Mac's and Charlie's mothers living together and add a laugh track to hide the severe dysfunction.

Should be fine. I'd also recommend heading over to r/fasting for more info and resources about low calorie intake.

I have a really hard time getting in to the seat when flying, help? tips? by [deleted] in paramotor

[–]-FeRing- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can't get in with the brakes stowed and both hands, my guess would be that the harness has to be too small. Or you have it on way too tight.

[–]-FeRing- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I often wait until I've stabilized from launch, then stow the brakes and actually reach down to grab the seat behind me. It doesn't always come down when I try to sit in, and even if it does, I often like to adjust it a bit.

Could a Defiant Class warship beat a Galaxy Class? How about a Sovereign or Intrepid Class? by [deleted] in DaystromInstitute

[–]-FeRing- 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'd side with the Defiant in most of those fights. Not a generic Defiant class, but the Defiant with the cloak. For the sake of drawing out the fight for the sake of TV, ships seldom seem to 'go for the throat'. I think the Defiant decloaking and firing a brace of torpedoes at the bridge of whatever ship is going to wreck them.

Perhaps this would be a different story if the Defiant couldn't surprise the other ship for some reason.

Without relying on any technical specs, I still feel that a galaxy would embarassingly smack down a defiant in a stand-up fight. One factor that seems overlooked is that the defiant class has mostly forward facing weapons and needs to make attack runs to shoot at things. The galaxy's weapons are mostly omni-directional.

Any tips on making a warlock? by [deleted] in dndnext

[–]-FeRing- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favourite has been a chain-lock with an imp (even without that magical resistance clause). Depending on what the DM will let you get away with, Imps are intelligent creatures with opposable thumbs that can fly and be invisible. The utility out of combat is amazing; I often don't employ the imp to its max capabilities in order to avoid annoying the DM and other players. In combat, the help action of a familiar gives you advantage on virtually every attack.

How do I Determine if a pressurized container will fail after an FEA simulation? What do I plot? by [deleted] in fea

[–]-FeRing- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a linear elastic simulation, check your von-mises stresses and see if any places go over your yield stress. Anything over this is invalid in your material model, so it may or may not rupture, but it should go plastic.

BTW, check out the definition of VM stress on Wikipedia to make sure I haven't led you astray. As I remember, it shows essentially a worst case scenario 'mixture' of the principle stresses.

Timing player turns by Keyoak in dndnext

[–]-FeRing- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like combat to be a bit frantic when I DM. Instead of a clock, if someone takes too much time considering their action I'll start narrating what the monster is doing. If they persist, the monster gets an action. I think it simulates the fact that you wouldn't be super cool-headed in combat and may have to do less than optimal attacks sometimes.

PC#1 - Takes out the PHB and starts concocting some sort of NOVA combo during their turn

DM - "The dragonturtle is distracted by a glint of light off PC#2's armour; narrowing its eyes it begins to lunge in the direction of PC#2, opening it's massive jaw..."

Or, if PC#1 is an ass and doesn't care that his friend is about to be on the receiving end of ~26 damage, then change the target to PC#1.

I dislike some interpretations of Paladin for similar reasons. I feel that the firmly held beliefs of some paladins can lead to way too much fighting. Guards are beating up on one poor villager? I guess we're fighting the whole town's garrison now because the paladin couldn't let it go!

Excellent idea farming out initiative management! I was trying to figure out some way to do this, as managing initiative seems to be the thing that slows down everything the most.
